I like the music but never fell for the pin even though it look good. Confusing rules with endless multiballs.

Quoted from WODKA:I like the music but never fell for the pin even though it look good. Confusing rules with endless multiballs.
I think that's my issue as well.
I played it on location, didn't really care for the shots much at all and didn't understand the rules.
I would be shooting around and get a multi ball on accident (just hit a switch) it was just almost like the game went to multi ball for no reason and I think there are 3 separate random multi ball modes plus every song and all the wizard modes. If the game can be multi ball heavy maybe you could play in multi ball most of the time or half of the time that's too much imo. And the shots are underwhelming so I never wanted to continue playing to get to know the rules.
Quoted from chuckwurt:Data East GNR is a great game. JJP gets old fast.
I think this spot on...I just played the JJP for about two months and it got old quickly, mostly because the scoring seemed very one dimensional to me (song jackpots), and the mini wizards lack of points felt like they were only designed to drain your balls before you could get back into another song...
Have one on location close to me. Not a fan personally. Game like all JJP games looks amazing. To me clunky shooter with no real flow. Also half the game is lit up like a xmas tree...no idea what i'm shooting at or for. May be different in a home location but i wasn't a fan. DE one was waaaayyyy better (have that at the same location). I'd play the DE before the JJP all day.
It's a 'busy' pin...waaay too easy to get multiball. You have to put up with Axl and his wailing. As MaxAMillion stated, it IS indeed a very pretty pin. But that's all.
I played both Oktoberfest and GNR (Same day, same location) and I have to admit, Oktoberfest was MILES ahead of GNR in terms of fun, gameplay and even general looks. Please don't get me wrong, GNR is the right pin for the person who may be a diehard GNR fan, but it just didn't do it for me. YMMV
It looks incredible, sounds great, love the theme but I just personally can't stand how slow the action is. I wish jersey jack could do something to improve their flippers to be more like spooky, Williams or Stern machines. The ball gets to where it needs to, but just not in any rush to get there. I like music pins that are fast paced and a lot of action like Metallica, Kiss,Rush,And Iron Maiden.
Quoted from Sako-TRG:If you love GnR as a band then you can’t go wrong.
Upon release everyone was going batshit over it.
I still have my LE with very little plays.
It’s a great experience.
But……
JJP need to gain customer confidence.
You hit the nail on the head. The game is fine(set up properly) JJP is a typical Jersey reality show!
I’ve had mine for over a year and I still like it. But I get how so many others don’t. It’s not a mode based game like almost every other game out there now. So it’s all about your score. And it’s hard to get a good score. You have to understand the booster multiballs, patches, band frenzy, etc. It’s a lot to keep up with. And the side modes are kind of cool but not rewarding at all. It needs a code update big time
I think I even remember a thread topic which was like, "Does GnR make all other pinball machines obsolete?" The author was convinced GnR was so far ahead of everything else, other games being made were pointless. Within a year, Stern releases GZ. The ultimate pinball mic drop. A year later, JJP is trying to push overpriced TS4's, and Stern can sell GZ for another five years.
I absolutely love it! GNR is a straight up jam fest. It has a fantastic look, great lighting, top notch sounds, and lots to shoot for. The main complaint has been the number of multiballs, but that's one of the top things people look for on pinballs in general...so I'm not sure where the problem is. I assume people simply don't know how to use the multiballs on this game.
As far as what each individual will feel...I suppose it comes down to what you like in pinballs. I recommend playing it firsthand.
People love to trash talk and dog pile on this game.
Go play it for yourself and decide.
For me the game is just fine.
Is it the greatest game ever? = NOPE
Is it a total turd? = NOT EVEN CLOSE.

Agree entirely with this statement and how I feel as well.
Its a good game and I like that’s it’s different, but it’s another one of those games where you need to read and study a 25 page rule sheet. It’s not a great game for a casual player. Too many patches, very hard to understand how they work. It’s not obvious what to hit and build jackpots in the mbs, song modes also not so easy to follow and I can’t easily figure out how to build the jackpot. I’ve entered a song mode with 5 or 6 balls locked, and got a paltry jackpot after 5 minutes in the mode. And what do the album modes actually mean and do? I mean slash solo seems pointless. I think if you can understand how the game is played, it is a great game because there is a lot there.
I was expecting a newbie with a question like that.
The op has been around this site for 10 yrs, I suspect another motive for bringing this up
The title of, "Is G n R a good game or not?" seems like a open invitation for a pile on..one side or the other..and sit back and eat popcorn.
As someone else mentioned, "Another one of these threads?".
I think there is plenty of info either way if one were to search it out. I would think being here that long he could find it.

We can wait for CrazyLevi to chime in
Quoted from Daditude:We can wait for CrazyLevi to chime in
Why? Is GNR in a price bubble?
Quoted from madtown:Its a grade A turd, Up there with halloween and toy story.
Wow. Somebody pissed in your Spooky Cheerios. Yikes. Warranty is not just a dirty word as opposed to JJP shenanigans.
I thought HWN was great. UM? I’m not interested in purchasing Charlie’s Childhood dream theme.
Quoted from GreenMachine19:It’s ranked #15 on the Pinside Top 100 so you know it’s got to be good!
GODDAMMIT! I JUST CLEANED MY PHONE SCREEN! Awww you kookie guys! HAHAHA.
It's really good but it has to be set up properly. That includes installing the Precision Pinball flippers and bushings. (<<<---not getting paid to say that...just installed mine and you can see my review here https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/review-precision-pinball-products-cnc-flipper-system/page/15#post-7119140)
It was honestly getting a little long in the tooth for me but now it shoots like it should have from the beginning with the new flippers installed. Not a good tournament game or on location due to the amount of tweaking and care, but a must have in cared for home environment. You have to be able to hear and see it.
I can understand not everyone liking it and I wouldn't recommend it it a one pin home or very small collection unless you are a die hard fan. I have a growing collection with 6 so far and it's a no brainer keeper

I couldn’t love it any more!
Awesome pin. Fun factor is off the charts.
And the GNR band assets and involvement?
Light show, music, artwork, rock concert experience
Never leaving my house and I have a lot of pins that would go first
Wonka is a great pin too. The GNR concert is next level but both are phenomenal.
You are so out of touch! Talking smack about Halloween is what all the cool kids do now.

Huh, that's a great idea to use the precision flipper system for JJP games. I've only seen them used on Sterns which all ready have good power. But in addition to accuracy improvements, the increased flipper power from the Precision system seems like it would really help with JJP games.

Doougey: number one Deep Root and JJP shiller of all time says so, lol.
Save your money and buy the next new Stern. You’ll be so happy you did. If you still want GNR, wait another year and you’ll be able to buy one at fire sale prices. There’s a glut for sale now and sitting everywhere collecting dust. Even Slash secretly wants to trade his for a Rush or Iron Maiden, lol.
Not a good game. Zero toys, shots aren't fun, ruleset is pretty lame and it has happy casino sounds mixed in with gnr music. Seriously jjp, WTF?
When i first got the game i was not into it very much.
It played not well and the ramps were hard to shoot.
Then i took a few hours to get it adjusted better.
I put stronger springs on the flipper , changed the rubber to less bouncy once and it played perfect.
Now i love the game and it going nowhere
Quoted from Squeakman:Is G n R a good game or not?
Absolutely beautiful game, but the gameplay didn't click with me enough for it to be a keeper. It didn't help that most most of the tunes in the game (other than GnR's initial hits) didn't either.
Too much building up song values with multiballs and patches only to eventually fail. I wanted to like it more, but found myself not wanting to play it enough to justify the space it took up. MEH.
Also - I think SDTM raised a good point in their review in that there is no really memorable shot in it.
Who knows.... the last new games I played were the Elvira at Banning that Broke down on my ball three, at expo January 2020, before the world went to Shit, and my Rick and Morty.....
The world really sucks....
This is the shit bonus of living in interesting times .
Hope GNR and all the other new games are awesome.
But my friends all are over buying NIB.
My R&M is the last NIB our group of pinheads bought.
Drunky post... sorry guys...
Ooofff.
Of all the people I know that bought one, only one has it still.
He was a later run owner, hasn't had it long.
Gauge it off of that if you like.
Pretty to look at, lightshow is the best no contest there.
I found I would avoid playing the easy multi ball, just too often during game play.
Man guys, I'm shocked. I think the game is terrific. The complaint about the multiballs, to me, tells me you're not understanding their true purpose. You're setting up eveey song woth lights/pyro/amps and crowd. Those multiballs prepare the show. I suppose you could make them single ball modes and accomplish the same thing? To me, its the best band pin ever.
The one thing i think most people can agree upon is the flippers are shit. Absolutely shit. But having owned most the jjp library at one point or another, you just know what you're getting when you buy jjp. Weak (and for me, hard to aim) flippers and a terrible excuse for slings.

Weak flippers that don’t aim well and terrible slings… sounds like a pretty awful game to me no matter what the theme is.
Quoted from Indusguys:Weak flippers that don’t aim well and terrible slings… sounds like a pretty awful game to me no matter what the theme is.
Dude, that's jjp.
Edit; you have a fucking dialed in. Don't act shocked lol
My brother in law and I played the other day. I could not wait for the game to be over. If someone gave me one, I would sell it instantly. I wish I could sue JJP for the time I lost playing it.
GnR is one of my favorite bands but after owning the game for a year, the game got repetitive for me the first 2 months. So glad I sold my L.E. Don't be impressed by the flashiness, its one of the best looking games out there but no where close to be one of the funnest.

Say goodbye to weak inaccurate flippers - Default settings on coils
As far as the slings, bump up the power, offset by a couple points to prevent sling ping pong

I like the way DI plays.

Any chance you could shoot a quick gameplay video with the new flippers? I'm intrigued but not sure I'm ready to make the switch yet without seeing or playing them first.

Joel on the Pinball Network has been using these and streaming his games. You’ll find lots of good info here.
Quoted from Indusguys:I like the way DI plays.
Then my complaint about the flippers doesn't affect you. I had dialed in and feel the same way about them in that game too.

I'd be very intrested to try these. I love the game despite the jjp feel.

Just because I like the way the flippers and slings feel on DI doesn’t mean I like the way they feel on GNR dude.

That makes zero sense.
Quoted from Doctor6:That makes zero sense.
What works on one game doesn’t always work on another. Does that make sense? Either way I’m happy you like the game and I wish I did too, I really wanted to love GNR. Weak flippers and slings are not the only reason I sold my CE.
Quoted from MikeS:Any chance you could shoot a quick gameplay video with the new flippers? I'm intrigued but not sure I'm ready to make the switch yet without seeing or playing them first.
I'm on the road and will be back next week...I'll try to rig up something

I have to agree. I frequently play GnR and DI at the same location and the GnR issues are much worse. I played a GnR on a store showroom and couldn't shoot up the left ramp if my life depended on it.
