I used to own a Fathom back when they were 3k not long ago. Although I still wish I had it, at the same time, I don't miss it terribly.

Quoted from rcbrown316:

Eight Ball Deluxe
Embryon
Flash Gordon
Centaur

This is a solid line up. Perhaps something like Medusa may be a good alternate. Looks like you got an '81 thing going.

Cant go wrong with classic Stern either. Although there are some Stern classics that are asking similar (or more) $$ like Fathom so the same question may come to mind.

I think the appeal of Frontier to some folks is that its not a very common title. It's another George Christian design that is very similar to other Ballys of that pre '81 era like Levi mentioned.

In my opinion, his best game came out in '81: Eight Ball Deluxe.

But... If you do like those late 70s GC/Bally layouts, I recommend Future Spa. Its a widebody loaded with good features: 6 upper lanes (with a skill shot), 2 spinners, inline drops, horseshoe shot, kickback, outlanes that force you to knudge, and a deadly pop ala Paragon on the right.

And the artwork is magnificent.

Quoted from rcbrown316:

Gotta check out viking for sure. Nine ball has been on the hit list for a while. I need some drop targets to work on when I have insomnia....

Viking rocks. Mine is never leaving.

Have you played Barracora? If you like drop targets, check it out.

To me, it looks like the girlfriend pushed him in and is making sure they finish him off.

Quoted from Methos:

And that is why he has the air tank on.....

He had the knife to kill the girl and leave her on the boat. He was prepared to swim away to escape. But things didnt go to plan because sea nymphs rocked the boat and pulled him under.

Yes, I always knew about the promo comic, but art interpretation makes it much more interesting.

Where is the knife in the comic?

Quoted from rcbrown316:

had one but sold it because the PF was sagging right down the middle where all the inserts are. not a very good design I suppose but who the hell knows where that thing had been. I also have a blackout in the shop and a flash back there somehwere. I like some of these old wiliams games but jist not as much as the balls and sterns. plus the boards are not interchangeable.

I like Bally and Sterns the most as well but Blackout is a good game for the value especially if you like spinners and orbit shots. Not the best ruleset but still a cool space theme with Williams sounds, voice and fun to shoot. "Orbit completed!"

Warlok's layout is identical to Blackout. Does it have interesting rules or improve on anything or is the main appeal it's rarity?

Vehicular manslaughter on Nitro Groundshaker.

Reading about Centaur on Pinside in recent times, I've come to the conclusion that many examples are just not set up right.

Set it with a high pitch and set to "conservative" settings.

Also folks who say the save gates make it too easy need to reinstall/adjust their tilt bob. It's not fun if it's all reward and no risk.

Quoted from Mudflaps:

Ha, no murdering. I've been eyeing early Bally SS games for a while, and I finally pulled the trigger. I'd love to snag a Medusa, Centaur, Flash Gordon, Xenon, etc. down the road.

Ballys are the best.

All this Fathom talk I'm trying to resist.

Especially since I pulled the trigger on a heavily mentioned game in this thread.

Nine ball from Tennessee? Did you get it in house yet?

Not yet. Soon.
