First memory drops were Meteor if I'm not mistaken and it was a six bank so you're also right @kursiv.

As far as I'm aware, Flash Gordon was the first released game with the Squawk 'N Talk board and Eight Ball Deluxe was the second. As good as Xenon's sound was for the time, I don't count it here since the speech is all sample-based, not synthesized with its own dedicated board.

Then:. "Emperor Ming Awaits!"

I was just pondering if the attract speech might have contributed to the game's wide popularity - three runs.

The early FG had the sounds plus and vocalizer as Xenon did. Not sure when they actually went to the S&T. I had an early game serial 1047 and it had a blue cover on the manual with the sounds plus schematic inside. The later FG came with the red cover manual with S&T schematic. I never did find out if the boards were interchangeable within the game without having to change the wiring.

It's not the attract speech that drew me to the game, it's the great game play. It may have drawn a few patrons to it when placed in a bar.

The three runs we're due to how the cash box filled up for operators and having been played to death, the operators wanted a known winner to replace the worn games on location.

EBD has an incredible layout and the rules are basically perfect. The perfect example of simple but never easy. You always feel you can do better the next game, which make the replayability off the charts. EBD was the ultimate quarter muncher!
