I had a nice Flipper Fair that my son's friends wouldn't go near. Every time it juggled the balls in the back glass it gave them the creeps. It didn't help that I found some hollow plastic hand grenades that weighed almost nothing and changed them in place of the ping pong balls just to put them over the edge. They're 16 and grew up only knowing clowns as demonic and so they gave that (a really fun) machine a thorough leaving alone...
So will clowns being thought of as an evil menace bring down value or demand?

I almost didn't buy my Jokerz because of the flipper jester, and I'm sure as hell never buying any of the other williams clown games. Don't even want to look at Punchy

I will not buy a machine if it has clowns anywhere.

I hate clowns.

Goin out tonight to pick some fights with some mimes. Fighting a mime is great, because they only pretend to hit you back.

While it isn't a clown, Funhouse creeps people out but I love Rudy, and miss him... Gonna have to save pennies till the day comes again but I'll have Rudy back in my house!

I've hated clowns since the movie 'It'

Bozo the Clown on the Uncle Al show is the one I grew up with. Looked similar to O-dins; unless Red Skelton counts.

Yeah...nothing to worry about here...

Considering Stern's latest announcement, it seems prices are going up on games with clowns...

Honestly, I think it's the horror-ization of clowns within like the past 20+ years that causes the fear more commonly now. Also, to me, a lot of the normal-then drawings from the 60's can creep me out if they were meant to be "weird", and for others it probably just adds to that.

The Earth from 1964 Bally's mad world kind of creeps me out. Just the mix of those arms and like the barbaric medicine/health systems particularly the mental "mad" side of things from back then just kind of gives a weird vibe.

I would still totally own one though if I had the chance to.

Looking closer at any of the art, all of it can kind of be seen that way if you try hard enough.

The old man going down the stairs is also creepy in his own way.

When McDonalds loses the clown because of sagging sales, then I'll believe it.

More of a local joke than fear inducing. Dyldo Baggins. LOL.

I had this plan awhile back to purchase a Punchy and then hook it up to a smart outlet that was tied to hidden motion/light sensors so it would turn itself on when people got near it and it was dark in the room. It would have been super-simple really.

My wife didn't think it was funny at all and said if the machine didn't come to life and kill me one night, then she would. Oh well.

#37 7 years ago

A better mod would be to have Rudy's eyes (on the funhouse) open and move if someone approaches the game, even with it turned off.
My wife cant help but check on Rudy every time she passes by the game. She thinks he is creepy as hell.

My personal favorite part:

"Clowns also have qualities that can appear suspiciously otherworldly, Radford told Live Science. They can cram 20 of their friends into a tiny car. They can unfurl endless scarves or squirt water from floral boutonnieres. So it's no wonder that children, or even adults, in a clown's audience might be inclined to connect the figures to the supernatural."
