    If I were selling something in the same situation as experienced by OP:

    Buyer 1 contacts me and says he'll buy the machine. We agree to a price. No money has exchanged hands.
    Buyer 2 contacts me and finds out the machine is pending sale. He offers more money. I decline, but let him know he is first in line if the original buyer blows the deal.

    Seems like a relatively simple modification to the situation with Buyer 2. I scored my TAF that way; I was second in line. The original buyer didn't follow through on a promise to check out the game with the seller; seller went with me instead.

    This was not on pinside, but it seems like a reasonable approach that everyone should use.
