I have used both myself. IMO, the rustoleum 2x spray is a lot easier to use then my HVLP setup. I have had good luck with the Rustoleum as well but with the HVLP you have a lot more control.

My problem with the HVLP is overspray. I have to put up a booth to paint. With the rattle cans I just put some tarps down on the ground and I am good to go.

This is my 62 world series I am restoring. The base green was done with a HVLP setup but the white and red was done with rustoleum 2x.
