A new ad at Mr. Pinball has this price; I think it is overpriced, but maybe in this market it's a fair price?

Only worth what someone is willing to pay. I owned one and thought it was a fun game, but not that fun.
It's pretty rare so you're not going to have a ton of price data to work with. Looks like one sold for $7500 on Pinside last year, for what that's worth.

Tell the guy that if you jump the grand canyon on your bike you get it for $3500... if you don't make it you pay $7500.
IMO, if really nice condition, with the rarity of this EM, it might be worth it.
If the game is a beater it would be well on the high side
Originals are worth that and more, trust me. However, the one listed is a reproduction so take it for what it's worth.

Ken Head is legit. He's the guy leading the charge for transforming Team Ones to Wizards. Yes this one is a repro, but what a repro it is.
Not all examples of the same title are priced the same, not even close. There’s a huge difference in price between a beat up routed game, one that’s been partially restored, an HUO example, and then fully restored.
$7500 for the game may very well be a fair price but it depends on the condition of the game.
Absolutely, definitely not. There may be people willing to pay that, but it isn’t actually worth that much. People have lost their damn minds and it just keeps getting worse.

not quite a repro but more of a conversion

Yeah, I guess that makes more sense; specifically this game takes another Bally game's mechanics (might be a night rider but not sure), makes the necessary mechanical, wiring and lightbox changes required for the Evel ruleset, changes out the backglass with a repro, changes out the playfield with a Krause PF, and does a cabinet repaint... not sure if this one has a new cabinet or not; I do know Ken has a source for new cabinets but again, not sure about this specific game. Ken uses Molotow low pressure paints from Germany (great product BTW) and Pinball Pimp's stencils. I've seen his work close up and it's very nice, including sweet-looking period webbing. You or I might not want to spend that kind of coin on an EK, but I think he can score that for this game, given EKs popularity, Ken's high-quality work/repro parts that went into this particular game.

Do people like EM Knievel for the EM-ness of it (chimes etc)? Or mostly for the rarity? If it’s the rarity I would think this being a repro/conversion whatever could substantially reduce the likely sale price.
(Of course pinball collectors don’t seem bothered by things like repro playfields and backglasses, so maybe no one will care that this game was something other than an EK until recently).

Regularly I would agree but there's an exception. When a game is fully restored, and by fully restored I mean properly restored back to new condition or better then it can be worth $7500 or who knows maybe even more or less depending on the title. What does fully restored mean? A new playfield, all parts tumbled / polished, a new cabinet or a fully restored cabinet (cabinet sanded, any dents filled in, primed and new stencils applied), new plastics, flippers rebuilt, etc).
Do all of that above, a HEP level type of restoration, and yes an EM may very well be worth $7500.

Agreed!

Maybe I should have said, no EM is worth that much to me.

Nah, you were right. It’s an em. Even with a top of the line restoration, it will play marginally better than an average condition game, not exponentially better. Most the stuff listed in a full restore just doesn’t matter. Rebuild the flippers, make sure all the mechs and switches work, wax the playfield, that’s it, that’s what matters.
