I am looking to buy a new pin and I would like opinions on which is better game.
My vote is for Ironman. I have owned one for about 16 months and still play it all the time. I owned a SM for about 18 months and never played it towards the end. I liked SM but did not love it. IM is a great thrill game that is just exciting 600+ games after playing the first time. SM is deeper with the rules, but just doesn't have the same amount of excitement.
Both great games. When I picked up IM I was pretty sure it was going to be a game I only owned for a short period of time. Now it's a keeper. My SM was my first NIB and it's not going anywhere.
That said... I play IM more... Like WAY more. It's not even close. I'll go a week or two without touching SM. I play IM almost every single day.

I don't know. I put up over 600 million on SM in semi finals of the Pinball Circus Masters tournament last night. Had almost all shots multiplied and many with 3x. 3 Black Suit, 3 Doc Ock, 1 Combo multiballs and Battle Royal during a 500 million+ ball 2. Rules were set to very hard too, so it took 2 shots to light lock right from the get go and no EBs. It was plenty exciting to me.
Quoted from Maddog:I have a chance to get SM nib for 5300 shipped and IM for 4400 nib shipped, price really not a factor.
Umm, if you can get a NIB SM or NIB IM for those prices . . . you should take both even if you don't want them. A NIB IM sold for 8k (confirmed) about a month ago. Look at the debate going on in the other thread about the 9k NIB SM. Jump on both those deals if you can.

lol.
Buy both, those are smoking hot deals.
Wait no, they are OVERPRICED! PM me the vendor phone number... and I will call him and... tell him that.........

I think that this is a spoof , guys.We need proof that someone is really that stupid to sell those NIB games at those prices.Looks like someone is just looking to rack up Pinside points.

That was what I thought when I heard those prices, but didn't want to call out OP. Anyone who would have those two games NIB at this stage would be informed enough about pinball to know their value.

I will buy both right now, not kidding
You cant go wrong with either. #1 and #2 best Stern's ever made. (order is a flip of the coin)
As mentioned already - IM is more intense - short game. SM is a slightly less intense but deeper game you certainly can get super intense with if you are a good player and fully understand all the rules/shot strategy.
Quoted from stretch2:Routed $6k easy.
I love seeing that. Too bad I never got any offers on my nicely shopped (routed) one listed @ $5500 last month.
Quoted from PW79:$6 routed is silly
I personally know of 2 people recently who bought HUO for $5.5
Still too much, that's why I don't own one. For $6k a person could buy Metallica or Star Trek or ACDC
I agree with this logic. Both SM and IM were from an era before color changing LED's tied to the code were released by Stern. I think that is a big difference in pins from 2011 and the prior models. Say what you will about the LE model but the LE games of today do have features that the "full featured" model games of yesteryear did not have.
Technology is advancing even at Stern, slowly but surely. As much as I want an Iron Man (and I would pay $6k for an NIB LE edition with cosmetic enhancements from the original version) I would not cough out 6k for a used machine when that could score me an NIB ACDC Premium (or really close to it anyway).

Yeah, unless you already HAD an ACDC Premium .
Anyway, I own both and even though my opinion is clearly biased, it seems that an HUO SM for 6.5k will sit for a while.

Haha! Yea, that is a really good point. That is where collection size plays a big role on what you will and will not buy. My collection is so small I sometimes forget that point entirely.

I had to double check to make sure that this wasn't posted years ago.
Nope.
So: lol.
Quoted from PW79:For $6k a person could buy Metallica or Star Trek or ACDC
Where are you getting any of those three for 6k? Maybe a used AC/DC premium. If you know of a place to get a NIB AC/DC premium for 6k shipped let me know. We also don't even know what the pricing is on Metallica or Star trek yet. Unless you already know that.
I would hold until star trek comes out. But those are excellent prices could always sell and get money back in 6 months.

My reply was in regards to commentary of a USED SM for $6K
Based on historical data a USED Premium of (insert a title) will price out at similar levels.

My bad. I agree. 6k for a USED SM isn't a great deal.
Both games play entirely different. Spiderman is got great design and flow with upper flipper and ramps. While Iron Man has open playfield no upper-which allows concentration on primary playfield objectives. I like Spiderman better but Iron Man is real close. I would say pick up an Iron Man first because they are getting more difficult to obtain. Spiderman's are always popping up-so try and obtain both -but Iron Man first-if you can find one.
I owned both, only still own IM. SM, by all accounts, should be the better game. Deeper ruleset, lots of flow, higher production values, etc. When you play them though for an extended period, IM just holds up better, as it is a lot more intense and fun overall. Game times on SM after a while start to become pretty long, which leads to playing it less and less. IM ball times don't get any longer though no matter how long you play it, which gives it a lot better replay value.
Does anyone really tell you what they paid for a car, let alone a pinball machine , to make it look like they got a bad deal?Does anybody go to a casino or a racetrack and ever lose money ?
You know of 2 people personally paid $5500 ? Did you see the exchange of funds. Really ?Really ?
Quoted from stretch2:Please somebody show me where a used spiderman pin is currently for sale for $5500 or less.
I bought a HUO one from here for 5300 last month. He originally had it listed at 5800 and no one bought it after a month, so he relisted it. I havent seen a lot on here for sale more recently though.

Use the search feature to see the routed ones listed in the high $4's & HUO's listed in the hi $5's
