Wife: What are you going to do with that?
Me: It's a topper!
Wife: What the hell are you going to do with that?
Me: I saw one available for WOZ also ...
Wife: Really?
Me:

The following video link is a Iron Man slot machine topper that I just bought from Missouri that came from a casino that never used it. In the video the orange looking color is really red. At one point in the video the boarder turns all white, but it is actually a bright red. The Iron Man lettering color actually matches perfectly with the lettering on the IM pinball machine. Not sure why the video take from the phone has that color issue but ... it is what it is. The arc reactor pulses too. I like it!

I found this second video of one on top of two IM slot machines in Vegas at the very beginning and very end of the video. I gotta play one of these IM slots sometime ... looks like fun.

This was advertised as "longer than 4 foot long" but it was actually about 56" long. I will need to find a wall to mount it to where I can put my IM pin next to it. Or ... maybe put it in the ceiling tiles shining down just behind where you would stand to play the pin. The general consensus of the family is to mount it on the wall ... wall space will be limited.

I can't top Grinder901 with IM stuff, but this is something extreme that I like.

Get another one, mount them as side art.

Very interesting ... I'll have to consider putting IM at the end of a row and mounting this on the side without damaging the side of the pin. Thanks for that idea. Probably not too feasible, but worth looking into. Maybe just mount it to something that I can just set against/near the side of the pin. Very interesting. Thanks!

My wife is pinball cool ... she just wants me to save for another new pin. I sometimes get side tracked on other flashy game room stuff. This was just something rare and pretty cool that popped up on my radar. Time to buckle down to save for the next pin ... after I get the same slot topper sign in a WOZ version (on order).

Do you know here i can find one of these to protect my iron man

If you don't see what you're looking for just email him. I just bought the carbon fiber magnet protectors from him but he does the stainless steel as well.

Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

I tried for awhile here to sell mine at $5k, and got no interest. So glad it didn't. I'm back to playing it and loving it, and mines a beautiful example too. Selling it would have been a regrettable mistake.

For me it wasn't love at first play, matter of fact took about a year. But holy shit I love this game now. I finally get it and for what seems like a simple design theres so much to shoot for. Sound package makes every shot feel like your actually in the game. Almost sold mine also, so..... so glad I didnt!!

#2911 6 years ago

Email Cliff and buy the carbon fibre versions so far I haven't seen anyone say they lift or curl like the metal ones have been reported to do in the past. Carbon fibre magnet rings also look sweet

Hoping you can lend some advice here. I am going to look at an IM this week. Could use some advice on if you think it fits nicely into my smaller collection. Yes I realize it comes down to if I like the game but would like some feedback regardless. Right now I have LOTR and TRON. I love them both the same. I'm a mediocre player at best but get equal enjoyment from each. I really enjoy customizing the machines which is another reason I'm drawn to IM. Wondering what your thoughts are from those that know the game.

LOTR and IM are almost polar opposites, so they happen to be very complimentary in small collections like yours and mine.

Quoted from pinballcorpse:

I love Iron Man and LOTR for example for completely different reasons. It's not even reasonable to compare them.

Quoted from The_Gorilla:

IM and LOTR are nearly polar opposites in terms of game play and game style. The contrast is wonderful. I am waiting to see if TH is ever made and will then look between TH and LOTR as a compliment to IM

Quoted from pinnyheadhead:

I just did a temp trade - My IM for LOTR. Wow, so far I feel LOTR is a player. A deeper, easier to play, (not complete) LOTR may balance out my little butt kicker IM in the future.

Quoted from Vyzer2:

LOTR is a great game in any collection but even better to balance out short games (IM) with a longer game. Both keepers.

Quoted from NightTrain:

I own both and have those two right next to each other for a reason. They balance each other out very well. It's really hard to say which one I like better because they are both so very different....but if I had a gun to my head, I would say I prefer LOTR. It's more of an adventure. So if I have the time to really play some pinball, I'll go to that or Metallica. If I'm short on time or just want my ass kicked, I'll play Iron Man.

They are both killer games. Ironman was a must have for me. I've always wanted a LOTR and recently picked one up. I never REALLY played LOTR before I bought it. I never understood the hype, as I had played only a handful of games on it. I was wowed with how great LOTR is. I still love Ironman but I definitely put more time on LOTR. Both are great games to own together.

Quoted from pinnyheadhead:

I am getting LOTR- pinball polar opposite of IM?

Quoted from Lermods:

In a 2 pin collection, LOTR or TSPP and IM are great pins to have.

Quoted from Razorbak86:

Now that is an amazing response.

It's funny because that is exactly what my thought process was... LOTR for deep and long and IM for hit it and quit it.

Also, TRON is the one you marry in this scenario.

I would sleep with Tron, f IM and marry LOTR, sooo yeah.

With IM it's definitely a Hate F.....I got divorced from LOTR...fun while it lasted but she did start to drag me down with her long ball times.

The 3 of them get along just fine

#2923 6 years ago

And in real answer to your question, all three strike different chords for me, and all 3 are keepers.

LOTR has the quest. Yes, games are longer, but that is needed for the rules to open up and shine. It's based on an epic trilogy of movies, and Keith did an amazing job of bringing that to life. So many goals and sub-goals. Sometimes I play it just to Escape the ringwraiths. I love lining up my shot choosing the mode I am trying to beat. And destroying the ring is still a thrill. Always more to do.

Tron has the flow. Plunge to the upper flip, up the ramp to the left flip, through the pops, upper flip back through the ramp, left flip to the scoop. Huge points fall from the sky as the crowd cheers. I go for that combo almost every plunge and hit it once about every 200 tries. The rules are fairly basic, but so well implemented. I can do everything (sometimes I even finish lightcycle). I just can't do it all in the same game. The lights, the sounds, all awesome all the time. Ramp lights and subwoofer are required.

And now to your next consideration...

IM brings the pain. Setup correctly, IM is a brutal bitch. The games are ridiculously short and nasty. However the rules are written with that in mind. The stacking is aggravating because if some things are running, others can't. Started Monger? No War Machine for you. But it has something that very few games do. It can provide massive pinball satisfaction in a game that lasts 4 minutes. You can play 3 games in 10 minutes and be elated by the result, or crushed as you hammer the start button for another game. It is so addictive. The Do or Die hurry up is stunningly aggravating because all the pressure of the game comes down to one shot. Subwoofer is REQUIRED. So much of the bass line is lost without it.

They get along well because they are so different. They fit almost any pinball situation together. Competition on IM moves along. On LOTR... have lots of beer and snacks because it is the worst game to compete on when good players are around.

You won't find a better fit to add to those two.

Joined the IM club last week with a trade of IM plus a bit of cash for my previous ST Pro. Loving it so far and a lovely condition original machine, am awaiting a full LED set from Comet to spruce it up and make it shine that much more. Play a few games a day and the rush of getting DoD lit then actually hitting it is one of the sweetest things in pinball!

Those outlanes are sheer brutality but it makes me want to widen them out even further!

If you are hitting the DOD shot within your first 20 games since buying it you are off to a good start for sure!

I just bought the game recently as well, probably one of the best ones I own (love this title). I went ahead and set the outlanes post all the way up and started setting the plumb bobs on my machine's tighter. crazy how much more difficult a game can be when you do that. Some games it doesn't seem to affect it as much. My high before was close to 70 mil, now I'm happy If I hit 30. gotten the hurry up, I can pretty much say at this point it's gonna be a few years before I achieve the DOD multiball.

Actually you mean Whiplash. No Monger/Whiplash stack in the game.

Monger can be stacked with War Machine. And War Machine with Whiplash.

Tonight I may have had my best series of games ever. Played about 10 games and got a 75M a 79M and a 106M. 2 of these made my high score list (my highest are 189M and 144M). Hit Do or Die shot 3 times tonight. Once for 34,800,000. Couldn't finish Jericho though.

The 106M game tonight was vintage. 105M on first ball. 1M on the next two. Fucking Ironman!

My game is all Factory settings nowadays (and outlanes) Which is definitely harder than setting Monger to "Hard" in the settings. RobT pointed that out to me, and I didn't get it at first, but it's true.

Im pretty sure the dude that got DOD MB had Monger set to hard, and the upper post disabled. He's obviously a rad player (way better than me) and his achievement stands on its own merit - freaking awesome and almost unbelievable - but I'd like to know if he did it on factory settings or not (and where his outlanes were positioned).

IM is truly a special game. An all time classic.

You're playing with old code bro! 30,000,000 is the max for the Do or Die hurry-up shot. Upgrade to the newest!

#2930 6 years ago

Actually you mean Whiplash. No Monger/Whiplash stack in the game.

I did mean war machine. Once mongers multiball is started, you can't start war machine. And the opposite, you can't raise monger if war machine starts. I tend to try and qualify both (WM lit), raise monger, hit WM, and then smash on monger until it starts. I think that is a bit safer than hitting the monger with only one ball in play.

But no matter, I find the stacking to be a blast. Little subtleties that make the game easier of harder depending on what you're doing.

Ah, ok. I see what you mean now. I try and do same when it looks like Monger can't be avoided.

Do not like the fact that when you're in Monger MB, that's practically all you can do. I guess if Bogey or one of the IM target modes is already running you can do that and run up your shields, but you can't advance anything else of consequence. It's basically just Monger, and that can get boring. Monger MB can be exciting of course, with the magnet and Super shot, but I'm usually glad when it's over. Whiplash and WM, on the other hand, I never get enough of.

I have Monger set to hard, makes him far more balanced with the other MBs and opens the game up a little reducing the Monger road block so to speak.

Quoted from J85M:

I had mine set that way for years, and I like the game that way...but the game is easier that way, for the very reason that the Monger isn't always popping up - and screwing with you ! - like it does on factory settings. I put it back to factory awhile back to see if I could kick the games ass that way. I think I did - 189M - and I'm keeping the settings factory for now...to see if I can break 200M and also get the unicorn DOD MB the more difficult way.

I'll give it some more time, but then I'll set Monger back to hard, close the outlanes a little, and see if I can abuse the game a bit.

Does anyone know the part number or specs of the bolts used to lock down the backbox to the lower cabinet. Not the hinge ones but the ones in the back to lock it down. The movers lost the box with the parts to all my machines.

Don't pay too much for the mod because I don't think it adds much. I can't even tell the wires are lighting up on my game.

Man I love this game!! I just ordered a couple EL wire kits off ebay. It says it's 2.3mm diameter EL wire, comes with a splitter and 12v inverter. It's coming from Hong Kong so it will be a couple weeks before it gets here. I also got a kit for Metallica to make the wires going to Sparky's helmet. They were cheap so if it doesn't work I'm not out much at all.

This is what I ordered: ebay.com link: 1M Neon LED Light Glow EL Wire String Strip Rope Tube Decor Car Party Controller

I will give an update when I get them.
