I had a similar problem on Tron. It was never as bad as it sounds like it is for you, but ball trail dirt meant that the ball didn't travel around it particularly friction free, and would occasionally get stuck.
Since cleaning and waxing it twice the problem went away.
Perhaps you could try waxing the area?
