Figured it might be easier to have all the modders post their mods in a single thread. I got my game last night and started doing some modding today.

Pharoah eyes

Backboard lights. RGB shown in this video, pic shows our newest color ice blue, phone washes out the leds, hope to have better pics up in a bit )

Green trough light
Mirror blades from Cointaker

Mods will be up on our site tomorrow. Pharoah eyes I think will be $22.50.

I think getting a different colored ball to take the place of that captive ball on the far left for the premium le would be cool

Mezel has glo balls they sell.

I’m not sure how this one in particular is attached. It’d be cool to buy one already drilled and tapped? I gotta believe it’s sitting on a stud?

Sorry, I as referring to the one behind it.

I made some apron cards. Hopefully the link works. Should be able to just print and they will be the correct size.

The instructions are a little hard to read, i realize that, it's due to the background color washing it out. A graphic artist I am not!

Here's another option for the left side - went with artwork referencing the soul shards and split eddie's. Let me know if there are any typos I missed from Lermods post.

much better than mine! I can't see or type very well these days, especially when it's that small. Glad someone else did a version so people can mix and match whatever they prefer.

For anyone attending the Allentown show, we are running a show special on the pharoah eye mod (see video earlier in this thread), just $15 if pre-ordered, otherwise it is $22 on our site. No prepayment needed, just need to know if you want one.

We've dropped the price of our pharoah eye mod to $15 shipped. Doesn't take me long to make and parts aren't expensive.

Where did you get the plane?

ebay, search for 1/72 spitfire.

I was busy today, made a modified and interactive LED backbox with flasher integration. Pic is a bit oversaturated...before and after.

And added a figure, fits perfectly.

Nice placement of the Killers Eddie. Thought you told me it was too big? Oh well, must have gotten it cheaper. How did you mount it there? I have mine and was going to try and replace the plastic cyborg Eddie, but I kind of like it where you put it.

I thought it might be too big, but found it for $30 on eBay and thought I’d give it a shot, it clears the glass by about 1/2”. I mounted it using a metal bracket under his feet and attached it to the screw on the plastic in that area. Zoom in on my first pic and you can see it.

That should look nice. Not doing the coin door too?

Nah, I never do. I like the look of the black coin door on games. It’s also quite a bit of labor and bumps up the cost a lot.

Quoted from Toasterdog:

Just as an update, I added my mini-figure, but she was still too big. I had to cut her dress in half. I tried a few different mounting options, but opted for simplicity. I drill a hole (divot) the size of the center screw head and put a small dab of super glue in the divot (adhered to screw head) and it's very solid with no vibration.
Anyway, not as great as I hope, but better then the original IMO.

Cool on the orb. We have a similar one that will be ready in a few days, just waiting on connectors. Ours will run off the flasher that is under the plastic with the orb effectively taking its place. we will have a few different colors available, blue, red, purple, green, ice blue and white. Ours will also appear to be floating/elevated. Stay tuned...

#77 5 years ago

Mummy/sarcohpogus ball lock mod...tied to the ball lock flasher so it flashes red when the ball lock flasher lights. I can do other flasher colors too: green, blue, ice blue, white and purple. It will be up on our website and pinside shop by tomorrow. Pro only unless someone thinks it will fit somewhere on the premium or LE.

My version of an orb. It is tied to the orb flasher and actually replaces the orb flasher underneath so all that flashes with the game is the orb on top, not the flasher underneath. much better I think. I made this one blue, but I can offer it in other colors, white, red, green and yellow. It will be up on our website tomorrow I think.

I think our mods for this game are mostly done. Pharoah eyes, orb, sarcophogus, backboard light and trough light plus the backbox.

Quoted from ZMeny:

Ler did you guys do a custom led job behind the translite? Looks great and pulls the colors better

Yes, that is our backbox mod. It’s a panel with led strips custom set to accent the colors. It also had flasher integration and the marquee changes color. Quite a bit of labor involved in making it. It will be up on our website today, along with the orb.

#98 5 years ago
Quoted from Billy16:

How about a backbox lighting mod for the LE so it doesn't washout the backglass so much. Turning down the intensity of the lights helps some, but it still looses the shimmer that is visible when not lighted. I would think this would work for the Pros and Premiums as well.

We can make them, look at post 89 where there is a video of my pro. I can make a similar custom one for the LE or premium.

The plane with the lights under the wing to light up that centerfiled area is perfect! Plane + needed extra lighting is a win win, like that ALOT!!!
Ok when will these be made to order???...someone please market this! Extra bonus if you battle wear the plane, needs some wear and tear and bullet holes maybe.

Here's a few pics of my plane lit from underneath, I used purple. Pics show lit with game off, lit with game on and game on no light.

Quoted from charles4400:

Wow looking great really lights up the top pf area!!!
Was wondering though, can you make an option to mount the plane over the drop targets plastic instead of up top... maybe with an extended post on the ramp entranceway? I think the 'Beast" area in center of the playfield is what needs the light the most. That option would also free up some area so we can replace the plastic 2d Cyborg Eddie with a 3d figure for the pro or upgrade the prem figure with a better one without looking too cluttered up there. Just a thought (and hope!) Like how this is progressing!

Here you go...

Quoted from charles4400:

Are the machine gun lights always on or are they interactive? Can you make them interactive if not?

I didn't design them as machine gun lights as I am not aware of any lights in the game that flash as "machine guns." The connection provided allows you to hook it to any flasher socket so it can be interactive, but I made the plane lights with their intent as indicator lights tied to the GI.

#137 5 years ago
Quoted from charles4400:

Sounds great! So if I wanted to tie just the front lights to the right dome flasher, it shoukd be ok and the front lights should blink or turn on/off with the flasher if I hook it up to that? Is it difficult to hook up this way vs originally intended gi?
If this can be done (or when I get it in if you could help me with that) I would be stoked!
I just think it would be cool to have the front lights interactive with a right ramp mode shot.

It depends on how the flasher is wired in the game. Our orb and sarcophogus are both hooked to flashers as there are connectors in the game for them. Some flashers, however, are integrated directky into the node boards and I won't touch those. Hopefully the one you mention has a molex connector associated with it so I can do what you want. I'll check my game tonight.

I’m not sure I ever updated this, but we now have two versions of the plane. Both have under glow lights to light the play field below, but one has static wing lights that are always on and a second version has interactive wing lights that tie into the flasher on the right side of the playfield.

https://lermods.com/products/iron-maiden-pro-pinball-illuminated-plane-mod

And of course many other mods for this gam, include a pro version of an orb, which ties directly To the orb insert and takes the place of the flasher and a version for the le and premium that is static with a color changing bulb always on with the GI.

Here is an easy mod if anyone is getting tired of people asking where the sarcophagus shot is
Buy one of these, cut the base at an angle and glue the top to the base (then paint to match IM art like I did if desired) and use mounting tape to stick to the plastic so you dont have to drill!

We have something similar, but interactive with the game.and it shows the mummy. You are right, makes it easier to know where the shot is.

Quoted from modfather:

A couple of mods I made and wanted to share on this cool Iron Maiden thread Lermods started. The Torches are hand made and go directly over the existing factory lights on the backboard. A special metal sleeve was designed to slide it over the existing screw , backlighting it nicely. The Annubis warrior God goes in between the torches , covering the matching image on the plastic. It gives it a 3D look and matches the theme perfectly. A good size , not to big. I hope you guys like them. These and other cool mods can be found at www.modfatherpinball.com

Quoted from Hoser:

Quick question.
If I would like to add a GI spotlight to Iron Maiden, can I just alligator clip onto existing GI like on Bally Williams machines? Or do I have to do something else?
Would prefer for the light to not be on all the time. Just at the same time as GI.
I'd be using something like this:
https://www.pinballlife.com/playfield-accent-spotlight-assembly.html
Thanks

Yes, no issues doing it this way.

#374 5 years ago
Quoted from Hoser:

Thanks.
I thought I heard something about risks with node boards on spike games. I guess that is more for heavier mods or for specific flasher locations?
So, I am not going to cause issues with my spike 2 machine if I add one or two led spotlights to the GI chain, right?
Anything I should know about what kind of bulb to use/not use?
Just triple checking.
Thanks

No issues, use typical 6v bulbs. Spike is polarized so if the mod doesn’t work with clips on, just reverse the clips. Attach clips with game off!

Quoted from DrMark12PA:

Just placed my order for a premium and wondering what are the must have mods for the game... so far I'm considering:
1) insert gels
2) underworld scoop illumination
3) obelisk dome cover
4) pharaoh blinder light kit
5) album cover side blades
6) flame torches
7) backboard illumination
8) pharaoh plastic protector
9) shaker
10) I have the Piece of Mind, Killers, and Trooper aftermarket toy figures ready to install
**11) considering the plane but thinking about making my own with possible motorized prop as shown in thread.
**12) looking at the sarcophagus and Anubis figures (Modfather) but was wondering if there any other versions to at least compare
**13) considering the lighted orb mod but was hoping to find a clairvoyant figurine to use with the lighted orb
**14) trying to find the fluorescent yellow lane protectors

Seems like you have most of them listed, sure is a lot of choices. I would just add a backbox led mod and maybe one of the toppers out there.

Has anyone bought the trough light up kit? I'm trying to decide what color to order (with my game arriving today) based on what others have installed and the look depending on the color scheme on the premium.

My preference is green, but red, white or ice blue would be ok too. Purple and blue don really fit the scheme.

#453 5 years ago

You can pull 12v from the backbox or board inside the cabinet on the LEFT side below the left flipper where you'd connect a Shaker. The pinouts are in the manual. We offer a splitter for spike games coming off either connection to hook up mods designed for SAM games.

Quoted from blackhawk812:

I have several of the aftermarket Eddie's installed in my game. I removed all the plastics. I agree the game is dark. I purchased a set of Pin Stadium LED lights while I was at the Pinball Expo and they make a huge difference. They light up the entire game. Makes all the colors pop and their are no more dark areas on play field. Best investment I have made for the game by far. Highly recommended, brings the whole game to life. Here are the before and after Pin Stadium Install pics.
[quoted image][quoted image]

If your game is that dark, there is either something wrong with it or your camera. There is no way it can be that dark. Are your spotlights even on?

Here’s my game with a backboard light ($20) and a trough light ($15) taken in a dark room.

Quoted from DrMark12PA:

I just purchased an Eddie bust head on eBay (there are dozens listed from every era) to use as a topper. I might consider purchasing a couple depending on the fit on top. The eyes are powered by 2 AA batteries so I'm trying to determine what appropriate wiring would be running off the machine to power the LEDs used for the eyes. I was considering running them off a GI bulb at 5v but also wondering if I can just solder the wires to the AA receptacle? Just checking with fellow Pinsiders on their thoughts and expertise.
[quoted image][quoted image]

Yes, you can solder wires to the battery terminal and power with 5v from the game.

#462 5 years ago

Hi Mark, don’t order from pinball life or Marco for something like a hex post spacer, they’ll charge you $8 just for shipping. I have a few hex posts on hand I can send you.

For those wondering, the plane is intended to be mounted on the spotlight hex post off the right ramp, but Mark has the mezel arch, which interferes with the plane and so requires an alternate location to mount. Back right or back left will work fine.

Quoted from Hdmike444:

Ok so I got my drop targets but didn’t look under the playfield first. It is a board as opposed to individual leds. Does anyone know how to tie into the game to get the correct leds on the correct targets. I know I can have then colored correctly and lit all the time but I’d prefer on and off with the game if possible.
Any help is appreciated. I am not a wiring schematic guy so I can’t look at the manual and remotely figure it out.

You’ll have to tap into the connectors to the node/light board. I havent looked at my game, but they are likely running into a single connector that has a power wire and one signal wire for each insert light. Not like pre-spike games

Quoted from Gogdog:

Hmmm...looks like the lermods non-interactive plane just has the lights on all the time. Maybe I'll switch them to that eventually if I rarely notice them flashing.

What are you trying to accomplish? You want the wing lights to flash? If you have them tied to a flasher, why are they always on? Our non interactive is hooked to GI so it’s always on? Our interactive is tied to two circuits, underwings always on to light the playfield and wing lights on/off tied to a flasher. Pm me or ask here if you want help. It’s a fun project to take on if someone wants to learn.

#567 5 years ago
Quoted from Gogdog:

Sorry for the confusion....I have mine wired (and working) just like your interactive one. I originally said ->
---------
And...now I just need to pin down when exactly the right side flasher goes off.....its not that often I guess so I barely get to see my hard work!
----------------
As in....I don't see the flasher "light" very often, which means....I don't get to see the spitfire flashers very often. I'm saying I'm contemplating switching to your non-interactive style just to have them on all the time.

There’s other flashers to use, left spinner flasher, lightning bolt flashers, pharaoh, they are all pretty active.

Iron Maiden orbs in stock. Shown in blue, but can do it in green, red, white, amber and purple too. Replaces existing flasher, interactive with the game. Pro version shown in video.

Premium and le is rgb and not interactive, existing color changing flasher remains active.

Quoted from KnockerPTSD:

$46 usd?
Shopping list (for mine)
-alligator clips
-wire
-purple led
-monkey fist (solid plastic balls x4) (craft store)
*these come in clear, white or frosted. I chose frosted and it looks very sharpe)
I spent less than $10 cdn and could still make 3 more lol.

You made it interactive with the orb flasher using alligator clips?

Why not sell the three you have for 10CDN.

Quoted from PinMonk:

Time is money. I learned that the hard way by initially massively under-pricing the lens brackets I made. Once I had to make a bunch I realized I was way under-priced. Lermods has been doing this a long time so I assume that he, like Mezel, have a pretty good handle on the correct market price right off the bat, where morons like me have to stumble around and figure it out one at a time.
If this is too high, the market will shrug and the price will change or it will disappear. The correct price is whatever people will pay. You don't need to have everyone in the party bus, just enough to make it profitable.

Just like doing home improvements, fixing your car, etc., it’s always cheaper when you do it yourself. But when you can’t do it yourself or just don’t have the time, you turn to others for help. That help costs money. We do try make a nice product, price reasonably and not gouge. There is more to it than just the cost of the supplies to make the mod. There are other costs as well to consider like incone taxes, website, shipping (we ship free), PayPal or credit card fees, packaging, etc. We also need to buy the machine in most cases to ensure proper fit and function. Suddenly, that $46 doesn’t look so high.

Quoted from Mtg381:

What's the best looking fighter plane mod and where can I get it?(Interactive?) I have a Premium.

Can't speak for anyone else's plane, but ours is interactive with the flashers.

https://lermods.com/products/iron-maiden-pro-pinball-illuminated-plane-mod

#638 5 years ago
Quoted from Hdmike444:

I made a plane mod with the prop that spins but the motor got too hot and overheated and started to melt the plastic so I disconnected it. I did the same and painted extra yellow on the prop and it looked great, but ultimately no one got to see it but me.
Still looks good though.(the pic is when the prop still spun)
[quoted image]

Motors and spike games don't go well together. Lack of fuses are an issue. We have a motor on our Disco ball mod and have a way to protect. failures can still occur. Not to scare anyone off, but be careful with spike games because you'll be replacing a $200 node board instead of a $1 fuse. We have done a lot of testing on these mods and know what works and what doesn't.

I've seen the prop plane, but don't know how it's hooked up and what protection is used.

LER Mods orb. Blue in color. Used. Works. Could use a little hot glue at the end , see pick. $10.00 shipped.
[quoted image][quoted image]

Sorry you didn't like the orb, we hadn't received Any feedback about it not being bright enough, but we take feedback seriously and always try to improve. We have changed the light source we use and it is now as bright or brighter than the smd light used in the game. We can also do more colors now, red, green, white, purple and red.

Quoted from Dantesmark:

Yea... mine was not as bright as i would have expected. Can i get the bright one?

For anyone who has our original orb Mod for the pro, I will gladly replace the light source for you, even if you bought it second hand. I would just ask that you cover shipping back to me and to ship it back out, that's about $6 round trip. Also, if you want a different color, no charge to do that either. Contact me through PM to make arrangements. I will turn the orb around within 1 day. I can guarantee you this will be very bright.

Quoted from MJW:

All good. You make great mods . I have a lot of your mods and appreciate your time and creativity making them. There were no complaints of the purchase price. Just went a different direction with this one. .i preferred to have no wire exposed and could have been a little brighter. I also ended up with a smaller size orb than the one I had. Only listed it dirt cheap so someone could use it. Basically free when you consider shipping.

Thanks, we really do appreciate the feedback.

Here is purple in my game, brighter than the stock led and really stands out.

Quoted from PinMonk:

What's the wavelength (nm) of that purple? Blues and purples are on the UV end of the spectrum and can damage retinas with continued exposure over time.

I think you need a lot of exposure to colors to have any impact. As nice as the orb mod is, I don’t expect anyone to stare at it for hours, it’s also diffused, reducing any impact further. If anyone is truly concerned about the effects of led colors, I’ll dig up the wavelength as I’ve got it somewhere, at least for the purple we use as that is a custom made color for us.

#676 5 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

You don't have to stare directly at it. It only has to be in your field of vision. Publishing the wavelength is a responsible move and would help people make informed decisions about adding to their natural UV exposure or choosing a different color to avoid the issue entirely.

Quoted from RGAires:

Would love that someone find a way to add on the PRO Model the "Newton ball/Captive Ball" on the left , the design of the machine and the shot feels like it needs it...

Would be great if mezel could work one that as they did with the X-men newton ball, which was a fantastic change from the stock setup.

#689 5 years ago
Quoted from Tmezel:

The mod we are making uses the existing Stern Pinball light.

So I’d venture to say that on the premium/le, you’ll capture the stock rgb effects in your orb, but on the pro, it will remain white. So that’s a good difference compared to ours which adds a color choice for the pro instead of just the white stock led.

#708 5 years ago
Quoted from Skeets:

Anyone else notice that Stern did away with the coin door decals with the spike games? I like the coin door decals, all my SAM's have them. I think maiden definitely needs one.
I am not artistic enough to do it, just a suggestion for someone who is.

You mean like this? Contact me if you want one.

Modded out Pro in our TPF booth: cannon, orb, plane, sarcophagus, pyramid, trough and backboard lights...playing (and looking great) nonstop.

Quoted from thewool:

(gulp)... you killed the colour palette?

Quoted from KnockerPTSD:

That's one ugly Maiden youve created

Thanks. Camera exaggerates and washes out the leds. It’s much more tame in person. People seem to love it here at TPF.

#751 5 years ago
Quoted from CaptainNeo:

no , no it doesn't. We all know what games look like when people do this to them, and none of them look good. Especially when you have a game with detailed artwork and shading. you are ruining all of the artwork. Nobody should ever put colored lights in ANY GI socket. Horrible, horrible horrible.

There are no colored lights in any of the gi in the pic I showed. There is a green trough light, an ice blue backboard light and the red is coming from the lights under the playfield. It IS exaggerated by the camera. Anyway, owner I nodded the game for loves it and that’s all that really matters.

Quoted from oohlou:

The game is a little dark especially in the center of the playfield. I think Pin Stadiums look great on this pin but I don't know if I want to go that far. Anyone have examples of added spotlights or some other lighting mods?

neilmcrae I haven't had a problem with mine after you and I absolute drenched the threads in locktite. 400+ games now without an issue. Thanks for the help!

Look at the first few posts of this thread, there’s some pics of a trough and backboard lighting that casts good light.

damn! that's very cool! well done!

Thanks, they are handcrafted and hand painted. Professional high resistance resin and high quality clear coat. Again, made by Pinball Mods Brasil. We are just helping them with sales.

#976 1 year ago
Quoted from Mancave:

I've had my own self designed/painted resin flipper toppers on quite a few of my machines over the years which were all made from a 2 part liquid resin cast from a mold. I've not noticed any issues over all these machines in regards a lack of flipper strength or any flipping oddities. The weight is quite negligible with these, only 10-20 grams or so (at a guess)
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Yeah, the ones we have are not heavily at all. Should not have a noticeable effect on the flippers.
