Walmart has propane camping stoves for like $15. You can use those to boil water to sanitize it. Alternatively, you can use regular household bleach to sanitize water for drinking. 2 drops per quart. Let sit for 30 minutes, and it's good to go. Or, just fill buckets/bathtub before the storm hits.

In a worst, worst case scenario, sealed moist towelettes and garbage bags make use for toileting needs, a whistle to aid rescue efforts, and tools, just in case you need to shut off any utilities.

Friends in Florida, from your experience, do you get much flooding? I've been thinking about it, and it seems like the sandy, porous soil would lend itself well to keeping floodwaters at bay. (Here in inland southern NJ, the sandy soils soaked up Sandy and Irene's torrents like a sponge). I feel like wind damage is more of an issue than anything else down there.

    Quoted from o-din:

Let's just hope all this talk about global warming and it's consequences is just a bunch of hogwash.

As much as I'd also love to hope that, trust me. It's not. Back in college when I was getting my environmental science degree, I spent more time than I'd care to admit peer reviewing studies and other journals regarding climate change. My lab classes even contributed some data and information to them. It was often legitimately depressing, especially when you have such a large amount of the population who deny it. Oh well... The nice thing about science is that it's true whether or not you choose to believe it.

But that's neither here nor there. I have family right along the Gulf Coast who said they're getting battered. So far so good though. Here's to hoping that the damage for everyone effected is minimized. The storm is so strong, it's sucking the water out of Tampa Bay!

    Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

That's an interesting article. Not saying it doesn't have merit, but that website has equally interesting articles on 9/11 conspiracies, extra- terrestrials and UFOs.

Here's a link to the NASA article. Don't be fooled though by Antarctica gaining ice though.

I'll try to be the first to let you know when the next big quake hits.

Can you survive the big quake? Play Earthshaker!

Also, I'm glad most everyone in Florida made it out unscathed, though Florida was going to "Feel the Power of the Wind."
