Recent local news broadcast in Naples:
“Oh NOOOOOO!!! The Horror...look at this boat over here under water.”
Camera pans left, and the boat is a 10 foot John Boat.
God I hate local news. I don't even watch it in a situation like this. To make matters worse, I would like to be watching some football today and the local Fox channel is showing hurricane coverage that is available on 20+ other channels.
Still have power...just had about an 80 mph band hammer the windows with sideways rain!
Dogs have piled up on the couch.....bunch of babies.
Hurricane Libations in full swing!
Have had a few power blips the last couple hours, but my biggest concern is Dak Prescott and Dez Bryant gettin' it done tonight.
We've had some pretty impressive winds over here. PVC fence blew out, but other than that everything is holding up well. I'd guess gusts into the 70s with regular frequency. Tons of rain, no lightning. My dog is really happy for the later.
Power is out here in cocoa. I sure hope it's not more than a day or two. The peak of the storm seems to have passed thankfully.
Lost a window due to a swinging light, 1 roof tile, and a mystery leak. House and pins are fine. Never lost power. Fairly dry storm here, as the lake's level barely changed. A lot of trees down in the neighborhood. The storm is still rolling, so everyone be safe!
Power gone half of my roof too, may have been a tornado. Buckets pans ceiling collapse pinball Tetris, bailing out while getting rain inside...
Losing my sanity. Pics later

Dang Art, I'm sorry that happened to you buddy. That really really sucks bad man..I'm glad you and your family are safe at least. I hope that you get some help ASAP.
Lost a bunch of trees.. huge mess to clean up.... uggg
Could have been much worse

Bad storm storm for sure, and there are some idiots saying it wasn't a big deal and the media over hyped it. Yeah right!

Why do I keep thinking that there is a gator lurking in that swimming pool underneath all that stuff that blew in there?
People might be checking in soon. How's it going Florida? What's the latest?
Eggbert, the news says Tampa hit hard. You OK?
Art, what's your situation?
My Dad is 45 min due north of tampa. He lost grid power but has a whole house genset. No damage to house, vehicles, or outbuildings. Losts of tree crap on the ground though.
That's an interesting article. Not saying it doesn't have merit, but that website has equally interesting articles on 9/11 conspiracies, extra- terrestrials and UFOs.
Art, I wish I was closer. I hope you found someone or more to help you relocate your pins and anything else of value.
Hope you and your family are safe otherwise.

What, you don't believe in ufo's?

Sorry Art. Best wishes.
LTG : )
Lucked out in Gainesville with no loss of power and no downed trees (many large trees that could have been scary coming down here), though many in the neighborhood were down, including a huge one on a main road nearby. Lots of roads closed for trees and flooding. Unfortunate to see that some of us were not so lucky :/
I talked to a buddy in Tampa yesterday afternoon and he sounded a little disappointed that the storm was losing steam on it's way there. He's just like that. lol.
Sounds like the storm did not disappoint on Tybee. Had a lot of near by flooding last year with storm surge from hurricane Mathew, and locals are reporting on FB that the water is even higher from Irma. Waiting for friends to return and check on my place.

I mean......is that not the APPROPRIATE attitude to have to live in a natural disaster prone area like Florida? Florida's been hit with twice as many hurricanes than Texas in the last 100+ years. Nothing even comes close. It's not a question of IF you're going to get bent over, but WHEN. Might as well just accept it if you choose to live there and want to stay. Maybe it's once in a lifetime if you're in the panhandle.....maybe you sit through 30 or 40 hurricanes otherwise.
I guess it's kind of like me sitting here waiting for the big eartquake to hit. I mean, we all know it's coming. And come, it will...
Tennessee is really starting to look like a better place to live to me.
I'm gettin too old for this hurricane crap
The big difference between a hurricane and an earthquake is we don't get no warning. Except maybe a dog barking.

Here's a link to the NASA article. Don't be fooled though by Antarctica gaining ice though.
Quoted from o-din:The big difference between a hurricane and an earthquake is we don't get no warning. Except maybe a dog barking.
We get a couple of dogs barking, 8 days of media coverage, and we're still too stupid to leave. Ahhh, the days of hanging chads seemed so good.
Tell you what, I'll try to be the first to let you know when the next big quake hits.
I was sitting right on top of that La Habra one a few years ago and could feel the aftershocks for a week.
Quoted from mbaumle:Here's a link to the NASA article. Don't be fooled though by Antarctica gaining ice though.

I'm no scientist (and blah blah Holiday Inn Express, blah blah) so this probably won't make any sense, but, what does ice accumulation have to do with melting ice? Doesn't the melting ice still contribute to a rising sea?
I mean, the mountain of ice can get higher and higher, but if ice is melting at the base, that - now water - still goes into the ocean. Isn't the problem that the sea is now warm enough to melt the ice? And that water makes the sea rise? So what if MORE ice is now on the top of the mountain?
What am I missing? Also, the article does indicate that it is very hard to measure ice accumulation and that their equipment is old and needs an update...so they could be off.
But my original question above remains. If I keep pouring water on my floor, despite storing more and more ice on my roof, my floor still gets really wet, and will eventually start flooding my house.
**Eggy Baby, Glad you're ok.
Quoted from o-din:I'll try to be the first to let you know when the next big quake hits.
Can you survive the big quake? Play Earthshaker!
Also, I'm glad most everyone in Florida made it out unscathed, though Florida was going to "Feel the Power of the Wind."
Quoted from mbaumle:Can you survive the big quake? Play Earthshaker!
I've got one in my living room and it helps us get thru earthquake withdrawals when we haven't had one for a while.
All kidding aside, that Northridge quake in the 90s was the real deal. 100 miles away and it felt like the floor rolled right under us. Most shake, but this one rolled.
Earthquakes (big ones), hurricanes (big ones), tsunamis, cooling, warming, etc, etc.... have all been happening long before any of us, our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc, etc were around, and will continue to happen long after we're all gone. The earth is a dynamic environment, and it will do what it does regardless of what we do. Where we choose to live is another matter altogether. Paradise can have it's price.
Which part of Florida got the most rainfall as a result of Irma? To me, it looked like the Melbourne area got deluged based on the radar images I was watching.
No power here. Running portable air conditioner and fridge on generator. Internet and my cell phone were down most of the day today. Kind of frustrating. Hopefully my Internet returning is a sign that power is being restored nearby...
Sorry about the roof Art. Hopefully everyone is safe and uninjured. That is the most important thing.
Thanks John,
I'm so thankful to have a fellow pinside and friend bring me a generator and trailer!
Finally going to get some sleep.
I don't want to do this again!
My place by Venice had no problems,
But the wood frame units next door took a hit.
Crazy stories, pool enclosure ripped and slammed into the roof of a house like a pincushion!
On the ice question from before the answer depends on weather the ice is on land, or on water, with regards to sea level.
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:... pinball Tetris...
Fuck, whatever you do, do NOT complete a full row... (unless they're titles you really want to get rid of)
Art- Glad you are mostly ok and the beach house is good. If I remember that pinball room correctly, you had to do lots of wiggling around to get those out and safe. Get some rest.

Very true.
My family has lived on the Louisiana coast since the 60's. They've been wiped out by Betsy, Camille, and Katrina. It's just part of living on the coast. Be safe, be prepared, storms happen and it's a matter of time.
Very glad Florida was largely spared from what could have been a much deadlier storm.
My house got railed by the hurricane and amazingly I got extremely lucky (about $200-$300 in damge), while neighbors to the left and right lost a seriously chunk off their roofs. Family and pins made it one piece

Anything happen to that bar, Gators Crossings? Where they were "riding it out"?
Quoted from HighProtein:Earlier today...
Looks pretty bad HighProtein. I saw online that Jacksonville got a lot of rain & flooding.
