+1 The symptoms you describe point to a wire issue somewhere.
Just to rule out an unlikely cause, whilst in the switch test, does the opto switch work properly in VUK if you stick your finger in it?

Just to rule out an unlikely cause, whilst in the switch test, does the opto switch work properly in VUK if you stick your finger in it?
If you have a DMM (multimeter) you could check to see that you have continuity from the coil to the connector. This may assist in detecting a broken wire if you have one.
Try to follow the wires from the coil, along the harness to the connector. Check for any signs of the wire/s being pinched or broken somewhere.
