I have an intermittent lighting problem on my 1975 Bally Bow and Arrow. It is driving me nuts!!! The lights circled in red are connected to the flash motor and are supposed blink in sequence when the game is started. The lights circled in green should come on at start of game then go off when hit. The lights circled in yellow light up when activated during game play. When I start the game, none of these lights work. If I walk away and touch nothing after starting a game, come back a while later, the lights are working. Sometimes the lights come on after a minute, sometimes after 15 minutes. If I power the game off while lights are working and turn it back on, the lights don't work until I wait again. Flash motor appears to be working fine. I wiggled all of the wires looking for a broken wire. Changed any burnt out bulbs. No clue as to the source of the problem. They seem to stay on for a full game, but once the game ends and I start a new game, the lights won't work again. Anyone have any ideas?
Greg

Added over 8 years ago: I should add, all problems are linked. Everything works or doesn't at the same time. I do not think these are separate problems. I've added a schematic to the next post with the problem areas circled. Maybe that will help.

Here is the schematic with the problem areas circled.

That schem image is too small to be useful. Can you get an image of just that middle-ish section?

I am thinking maybe the problem is somewhere along the #50 (white) wire? That wire looks to be exclusive to those components? There is a "game over relay" (around section 18 along bottom left of pic) that seems to bridge the #20 and #50 wires. Does that seem like a logical place to start?

Yes and to confirm its at that g.o. contact only , any continuity beyond that will not work as you have noted.

Now if you have credits and the light is not lit @ the apron (assuming bulb is working ) then it would be further up the line.

Only 2 other things would cause that, the fuse holder could be shot giving intermittent continuity ( most common as ballys fuse holders are junk )
or the lock relay contact for that circuit is a possible too. ( Sch. 3 - A )

Also, Clean and Check the connectors from the playfield wire harness to the lower board.

Does the other 6v lighting on the playfield work as it should?

Yes, all the other lighting is working fine. I'll check the rest as soon as I get home tonight and post an update.

Got it! Dirty contacts on the game over relay. Of course that was one of only 2 relays where the labels fell off so it took me a few minutes to match up the wire colors... But a few swipes with a point file and everything is working perfectly. Thank you everyone for the help. The family will be happy we can get back to our 4 player tournaments!

Cool. ^
Glue sticks for photos, you can reapply those labels perfectly....

Hi entomophile (and others),

first, glad you found, and solved your problem!

I am curious to know if your B&A still has all the relays spelled out inside the cabinet. My cabinet is missing the paper that was originally stapled on the relay boards. It would be helpful to me if you or someone here has photos of the relay names!

Thanks,
Tim

Here you go. See if these help.

The switch lowest in the group to the left of the game over interlock relay looks like both sides are closed at the same time.

I think it is just shadows from the flash. Zoom in on the second pic in post #10. There is a slight gap.

It appears you are correct

Thank you old pinside forum. I was having the exact same issue on my bow and arrow. Cleaned that game over relay contacts and it worked! Insert lights back on!
