Hello all! After building up some confidence working through issues on my Space Shuttle over the last few years, I've taken the EM plunge with a great little Grand Prix. Everything seems to work correctly but I'm seeing an intermittent issue on some ball drains where the ball will drain to the trough but the game will just sit there without paying the bonus or launching a new ball. I can energize the flipper coils a few times and it will usually coax the machine to pay bonus and then one more flipper engagement will load the new ball. If the flipper button does start the bonus payout, the next flipper button press will almost always load the new ball. It seems to get worse the longer I play (heat related?). The trough switch is adjusted and working properly-- when the machine is working properly I can see a little spark arc as the switch is engaged.

I realize I have a lot to learn on EMs but figure I might as well jump in. I'm still working through EM maintenance articles and FAQs but thought I could get some specific direction from you guys on this particular problem.

Thanks in advance for the help!

It's likely sw. F on the Outhole relay, a make/break. Be sure the contacts are clean and making well.

Quoted from interrobang:

If the bonus doesn't score when the ball drains, Inspect and diagnose this circuit with Alligator clip jumper wires

For a switch to work 3 things are necessary
1) When open, there should be a small space between the contact points (duh)
2) When closing, the long blade's contact point should push the short blade's contact point enough to move the short blade
3) The contact points should be clean, which they usually will be if #2 is happening
