Here is one I'm not sure comes up every day. My TZ DMD had a very slight malfunction that was driving me crazy. Whenever any dots in column 127 were displayed, they were also displayed on column 111. The reverse was also true where anything displayed on column 111 would appear on column 127. I figured there must be a short circuit on the connections between these two columns. I put the DMD on my bench and, sure enough, there was nearly a short circuit. Tracing the connections back to the SMD device used to drive these columns (1998 Babcock display), column 111 and 127 were next to each other. Using a 10x loupe, I couldn't see anything that looked amiss. I was fearful that the driver IC might be bad and have an internal short. While not too difficult to replace, I wasn't excited about doing it. To rule out a non visible connection, I ran a small razor blade between the pads on the SMD driver IC. Bingo.... no more short and the DMD works perfectly now. That connection had to be really slight... or my eyes are worse than I thought.... or both.
I wanted to share this with the group on the outside chance that someone else might be having this problem.
