I did the NVRam on my BK2K last night and now I'm getting U25 ram failure on power up and game won't boot. Any ideas? Did I miss something? It is just remove ram, install socket, install nvram and done correct? The process went smooth. I even ohm'd out all the pins on the socket with my meter when I was done to make sure no traces were damaged.

Yes I know. I just had it seated in there when I took that pic while it was on the bench. I moved it to the left before it was ever put back in the game. Should have made a note of that when I posted figured someone would catch that!

You should do Vid´s suggestion and put in a 6116 ram and look, if it works then. If yes, the NVRAM-adapter has a fault, what can happen (but I do not think so). If no, your soldering job was not good and you broke a trace or destroyed a via - everthing is very delicate there. How did you remove the old ram? Desoldering braid, desoldering station?
I speak from my experience, as I am in the ram-adapter-"business" a long time. People think, they did a good de-soldering job, but when I looked at the board, they did not.
Nothing against you, I hope, you did a good job - all will become good.
I've changed out tons of sockets over the years so I know where you are coming from for sure! I typically ohm all pins and followed them around the board to make sure the signal is making it out of the socket and beyond. Hopefully I'll get a chance tomorrow to toss that old ram in the socket and see what happens. I've seen some horror solder jobs over the years that's for sure! As you know, you can also use a 6264 RAM-Adapter in this machine as follows:
6116 -----> W5 + W19 = JUMPER // W6 + W18 = OPEN
6164 -----> W5 + W19 = OPEN // W6 + W18 = JUMPER
But back to your problem:
If you would have put in the adapter the wrong way, you cannot destroy your cpu-board, but only the NVRAM-Adapter.
But you said, you put it in the correct way. So there are onyl 2 possibilties: 1.) The adapter is faulty or 2.) or there was a fault, when soldering in the socket.
BUT as it now does not even work with the old (good) ram, I do not think, the adapter has a fault. Then there remain 2 possibilties: 1.) The old ram has become faulty or 2.) there was a fault, when solering in the socket.
Your equipment is very good, so I do not think, when desoldering the old ram, it became too hot or so and was destroyed.
No offence ment, but I am still assuming, that you have a broken trace on your board, I can only speculate, that it is under the socket. I would take the schematics and check every pin of the socket for connection corresponding the schematics.
I'm with you for sure on all parts. I was very careful with the socket but as in the past I've had a trace or two get away from me. I'm going to get the monster magnify glass out and inspect my socket for sure! There was a 6116 in there when I started. I have my schematics out and troubleshoot it up! Thanks for the posts they help! Never any offense taken with me. I love all input good or bad
And we are back! Wound up being 2 traces not 3 that got lost in the socket install. Interesting part I have a Pole Position 2 upright in the arcade and I took the 6116 out of that and had it in the BK2K for testing and I installed the NVRam in the Pole Position and it kept the high scores in that. Guess I'll have to order another! Thanks for the tips and help guys!
