So I moved to this little town of 2 Million people in China called Yiwu that did not have a pinball machine.

I saw one at Diner Guangzhou and got in contact with the local Stern Dealer, because I needed a new Hobby.

I just bought a brand new TMNT machine that cost almost double of what is cost in the US because of import duties freight etc. and installed it at my favorite Bar / Restaurant on Jan 1st.

The machine takes Phone Payments through a QR code for a 0.6 percent processing fee.

1 game 12 RMB aprox $ 1.89
2 games 20 RMb
3 games 28 RMB
4 games 36 RMB

I was there every night spending more on Beers and Food than the machine brought in but I am loving it.

The first night we drank Beers and played until 6 am.

In 4 days it brought in $ 150 and this will be the first busy weekend Thursday - Saturday night.

I do not pay the owner but he sees it as an attraction that will sell more Beer. He and his employees can play for free.

Any advice / ideas for competitions?

We are thinking the highest score at the end of the month gets a free steak or something.

Or do something crazy first person to get x million points gets free pizza (one a week) for a year?

Nice! Reminds me of my time in Xiamen...

#3 2 years ago

They had machines in Xiamen?

Congrats! My only opinion, and feel free to disagree, is to find a couple local popular "influencers"

Getting a couple of people like that to get involved, share, or motivated, can send you over the top!

Some LEDs were made for me in Yiwu......Lovely city and People.

Great idea! We definitely want to get more Chinese attracted to the game.

So far it has mostly been Foreign Expats living here.

This is really neat. Following!

Cool endeavour!

Can you tell us a little more about the QR payment system?

We (in NZ) have been looking for a payment system - nobody here uses cash any more, all ATM cards and phones ….

The Stern Dealer installed it.

It's a little Device with a SIM card and Antenna inside the machine.

It takes Wechat and Alipay Mobile Payments.

We can see real time payment flow / games on the APP and it transfers the funds to our bank account every night for a processing fee of less then 1 % 0.6%

Nice!!! I’ve got a few games on location and enjoy having them out for everyone to enjoy. Hope you have fun playing pinball!

You ask the stem dealer how many other places have machines? Sounds like a good chance to update pinballmap.com

TMNT as the first pin name people will ever play is some challenging introduction

#17 2 years ago

You could hang a poster with some simple instructions in Mandarin, maybe. About the start button, the plunger, the action button, etcetera.

The only one in Yiwu!

I added it to Pinballmap.com / not sure if it works for International Locations.

It's good that it is challenging. We set it up to save the Ball for 20 seconds and very easy game play. This way customers should not get bored of it as they get better.

Yeah the Dealer is making some Posters for the Windows.

Usually the employees have time to explain the game to new customers. We also just made a nicer card for the QR Payment Code.

We added a 4 credit option as a lot of players play 4 player games against each other.

How do you say “shoot the blinking lights” in mandarin?

Nice work.

The game has built in TOPs tournament software which you can run tournaments on. Can award cash or prizes. Length of tournament is adjustable. Read the manual for more details or Google Stern Tops software.

This is awesome, congrats and good luck!

How does the payment work? Do the customers scan the QR and the phone "sends a credit" by internet to the machine?

#24 2 years ago

What's up with the leg levelers? Down on the front legs and up on the back legs.

用普通话拍摄闪烁的灯光
Yòng pǔtōnghuà pāishè shǎnshuò de dēngguāng

Never mind my question about the payment. I see it was answered above.

First Pinball that I set up. We fixed that....

Would also love an update on how the TMNT is working out, at the bar. Is it still there? Does it still earn money? Did you ever institute the free pizza or steak idea?
