I wanna know how he cuts the flipper and start button circles so purdy.

    #27 9 years ago
    Quoted from McCune:

That is done with a x-acto knife.

Yeah...I get that, but you don't use any kind of circle template to keep it on the edge of the circle? I'd love to see the technique for holding the blade and controlling it perfectly around the edge of the hole!

    Quoted from McCune:

    Thanks Panzer !

He doesn't think your decals have enough toys, though.

(Sorry, Panz...you know I'm a huge fan of yours, but I just HAD to!)

    #75 9 years ago

You don't if you go slow enough. You can see in the video that Jims hands are always moving quickly but the rate that the decal is being applied is pretty slow. More decal doesn't get applied until everything's been smoothed out inch by inch.

I don't like this new video as much. Not enough plumber's crack.

Do you use a brayer to really nail it down? And do you do that before or after you trim?

    #92 9 years ago

    Yes...a brayer. Like this:

I think you even had it pictured in one of your restorations, Bryan. Stop messing with my head. I'm blonde and old. It's easy to do.

Speedball calls it a brayer. I'm going with them.

    Minnesotans...

    Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

A brayer is for printings purposes and would only be used by pussies.
Look up laminate rollers. Those are for men. Men with 5 pound balls and enough hair on their ass to weave two indian blankets.

Now look what you did...you made me crap my last pair of Depends.

(Seriously, Bryan...if you have 5 pound balls, you should probably have that looked at.)

McCune is gone from Pinside, and so--I would assume--are his videos.

    Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

First time I met Jim was before his son passed. Hell of a nice guy. Spent time together at Expo one year and RMPS another year. Had a blast. It was fun talking with someone who does what I do and has the same interests.
I will say, Jim changed after his son's death. I can't even imagine. I hope he finds peace with it all and I hope he returns here.
Some might not think it, but he is a decent guy.

He's an incredible guy and we became good friends...even though we were at each others' throats over WOZ for most of 2014.

And he and you, Bryan, guided me through my first restoration this year (FH), and for that I'll be forever grateful. I've got the confidence to do them on my own now!

    I think.
