I have an playfield insert socket thats bad on my Mars God of War(sys.80). It's one in front
of the drop targets. I'm not sure which type of socket to get, or what's up
with the wire that's stapled to the underside that goes to all the lights. What are
the do's and don'ts I should be aware of?
    Thanks

Figure out if it's a bayonet base socket for #44, ( most likely ) or wedge base #555 socket.

If you don't know the difference - the #44 turns and lifts out, has nubs on the base to hold it, the #555 pulls out or pushes in.

Once you figured out the socket, check any of the parts places - Bay Area Amusements, Marco Specialties, Pinball Life. Find a similar looking socket.

Unscrew, unsolder the old one, reverse process and put in the new one.

dont work on it with the power on.
the wire with the staples is just the power, staple /solder just the same as the are now.
    dont make a mess.

I am not a sys80 expert but go digging here
    http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/PFLD-LSOCKET?
find the part your looking for.. #47/44 bulb socket is likely what you have
pay attention to 1-2-3 "solder posts" and pay attention if there is a diode on it or not (little black electronic part)
