I think it is a fun game and I happen to have a very rare HUO example.

I got a rare clear coated one signed by some guy named Drano

// Error: Image 110365 not found //

I picked up two semi populated I500 playfields last year and picked the best of the two for some minor touch up and clear coating by my good friend Adriano. I'm planning to do the swap soon once I have given the clear a chance to cure otherwise I really enjoy mine and had it for almost 2 years now. I don't see it leaving my collection anytime soon and know if I ever do let it go I probably won't find one as nice as this one again.

There is this PAPA game play video by Bowen

http://vimeo.com/33451218

I'm also got a 45 minute video which stumbled upon a few years ago and glad I saved it locally to my hard drive by some guy named Tom. He shows all the different scoring strategies, modes, etc. If anyone is interested I could throw it up on sendspace for you to download and watch.

Quoted from gweempose:

Of course, I think that lock shot is a lot easier to hit without a Cliffy.

You get a lot of bounce out too I was thinking of adding some foam to see if it helps and might not put the Cliffy on when I do my playfield swap.

Bowen makes everything look easy, should watch his Tommy video where he plays one handed!

I'd love to see that video. Please PM me or post the link if you can upload the file.
Thanks!

Enjoy!

I checked last night and my personal pit stop record is 3.3s and do the exact same thing every time as described above ramping off the right flipper to the left and shooting for the ramp ASAP.

I think you might be having the same issue as I was on my TOTAN orb kick out. All I had to do was take it apart and clean the "gunk" (2nd pic) that hardened which was causing it to stick.

Quoted from kruzman:

I have had a couple request for pics of the I500 playfield I have for sale. I should have a chance to take them tonight, and I will post here. thanks for the patience, and of course thanks to mike wong for hooking me up with a nice plank.
cheers, rk

No problem and sure who ever ends up with this I500 playfield will be very happy. I have seen Ron's work on some of my friend's pins and it is nothing short of spectacular. If I didn't already have a minty I500 playfield that was touched up and cleared by Drano I would be buying this back from Ron. It was only touched up because there was a visible ghosting line above the Red and Green indy car flasher inserts.

Game 71 Takes the Chequered Flag!

ColorDMD is excited to announce that Indianapolis 500 (I500) is the 71st game to be supported by the ColorDMD multicolor pinball display platform! I500 was colored by ColorDMD's own Chris Enright. This is Chris' sixteenth title release, and adds to other favorites he has produced including STTNG, Indiana Jones, and Metallica!

The ColorDMD for I500 pinball machines shares the same easy-to-install hardware platform as previous ColorDMD releases. All displays ship with the factory installed SIGMA ROM that supports WPC, WPC95, SAM, Whitestar, and SPIKE platforms. Multicolor operation is enabled through download and installation of a game-specific color ROM file, available from our site. ROMs can be changed at any time, allowing use with any of our supported titles.

Displays are available now for immediate shipping! The color ROM for I500 is targeted for release by Friday, February 23!

Quoted from TechnicalSteam:

Bump..
Since Great Lakes Modular has been MIA. Does anyone have any extra Indy 500 target boards. I need 2.
Currently trying to get my old ones repaired but would like a backup plan.
Anyone happen to have an extra one they can part with?
Is there another alterternative. Really want to save this machine it's pretty much perfect except for this missing part.

I bought two semi populated I500 playfields in the past. I've already parted with both playfields, big main ramp, all plastics and one stand up target housing. According to my pictures I might have six target boards in my stash. I'll check tonight and let you know.

Quoted from delt31:

Edit top right race car goes really fast on right ramp shot. Awesome

First time I ever played I500 I asked the owner if the game had a shaker and he was like no every time you hit that right ramp repeatedly that race car spins around faster and faster. Love my I500 and I also have the same game blades installed in mine from previous poster above too.

For those on the fence on a ColorDMD upgrade you should consider a Pin2DMD upgrade. For those who don't know Pin2DMD originally started in the Virtual Pinball community and over the years there have been a few people who have taken advantage of this platform to colorize games on their Virtual Pinball cabinets and this work can be translated to work on a real pinball. My friend Dino orders parts, assembles, test and activates these Pin2DMD displays for $250cdn which is roughly $190usd. Then if you want access to the color files you just have to send a small donation which is usually $15-25usd to the author who colorized. Some authors just share the files like Indianapolis 500 for free over on VPuniverse site. I still pm'd the author and sent him $25 via paypal for his efforts. You can see pics or animated GIFs of it here

http://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/4107-indianapolis-500/

The only catch is not all games are supported but if your DMD is gassing out or dying this is a nice plug and play replacement without any modification required to install and just run it orange or any other single color you want. There are also basic 4 color palettes which sorta colorizes your game. If your game is supported than bonus and you can get color for 1/2 the price of a ColorDMD!

If anyone is interested or has any questions I can put you in touch with my friend Dino.
