I'm in the club! Could use a new translite....anyone know where to get one?

#617 7 years ago

The game I picked up is missing the bracket on the bottom of the left ramp. Looks very unique to I500. Anyone know if replacement can be sourced?

image_(resized).jpgimage_(resized).jpg

#619 7 years ago

Thanks for sending the link. The "INDY 500" on that site always throws me off. I put in "INDIANAPOLIS 500" and doesn't come up. much appreciated!

Looking to possibly rejoin the club....I had an I500 about 3 years ago for a very short time, but sold it because of parts being unavailable. That’s my biggest worry about getting another I500. I don’t want a game that doesn’t play correctly because parts are broken and impossible to find them.

Can anyone give advice on these areas?

Cabinet Decals
Translite
Standup Targets (including housing and little boards)
Ramps

I think those are most common trouble areas for the game. Are there any others that I should be aware of before buying another one?

#899 4 years ago

Ok. Couple of questions:

One of the targets is busted. Where can I get one?

What does it take to make the spinning car spin? Seems like sometimes it spins and sometimes it doesn’t when I hit the right ramp.

#902 4 years ago

Couple of more questions:

The balls are shooting off the rails into the middle of the playfield when multiball starts. Is this by design, or do I need to adjust the wire form somehow?

Software on my game is 0.6. What is the newest/best software to get?

#906 4 years ago

I think he’s looking for the boards with the LEDs. If he doesn’t need the target housing/assembly, my game needs one. PM me if they don’t go to 27dnast.

#907 4 years ago

This game is humbling me! Still trying to figure the rules and game out, but I can’t keep a ball alive long enough to feel like I’ve accomplished anything. Love it!

#911 4 years ago

Ahhh! Comet 2smd sunlights in GI. New target installed. Ready to see how fast this baby goes!!!!

^awesome lineup you got there

Thanks! Here’s the four I’ve got. Once I dial in the I500, I’ll switch the WCS around with it so the games are in chronological order. I need get some 1smd bulbs for the WH2O and I500 for the backboxes. Getting too much reflection on glass right now.

My car was spinning intermittently. The existing switch worked in test mode. I went ahead and just put a new switch in because I had one. When reassembling, I noticed that one of the screw holes is an oval shape and the other one is a circle. I assume the oval hole allows for adjusting the switch angle up and down so the ball can hit the switch correctly.

You might just want to adjust those screws and make sure they are snug so the switch assembly doesn’t change position from repeated hits. After all the work changing my switch, I think that’s all my game needed. But now I have peace of mind knowing I have a brand new switch and shouldn’t have to get back into that again anytime soon.

Wanted: I500 manual. The sites I looked at all show out of stock. Any leads appreciated.

Looks like my game is set up around 7.5 degrees and it is brutal! After a good 30 minutes of playing, i think I said “dammit! Ok last game” at least 6-7 times before I actually shut it down. Is I500 the most sadistic game out there? Lol

#926 4 years ago

Is this too steep?

Made it to position #1 today, but the victory lap didn’t light up. I’m running code 0.6. Was this an early software bug?

I did get the 15 spots from Gasoline Alley

#936 4 years ago
Quoted from 27dnast:

Wait. If you collect those positions from GA, you can win?

I made it to 1st with them, but the Victory Lap didn’t light. Is that still a win?

#938 4 years ago
Quoted from indybru:

Yes, why not?

I agree. Just thinking the 0.6 code has a bug that didn’t light it. This game is really fun to shoot. Tough.

Quoted from indybru:

3 ways to win that I know of.
1) play all the modes goes to checked flag
2) go from starting position I think it's 28 to Ist which is what Blitzburg did. The third shot in Gasoline alley mode advances you 15 positions.
3) Complete 200 laps.
Not sure what points does and why you would select it for an award.

4) complete all waves of the lighted standup targets will also activate the Victory Lap.

Not sure the exact Victory Lap award values, but the more of the four achieved will increase the value. Below is from the manual.

Put in colordmd, and lowered the pitch a little. Made it to 200 laps for first time, but I’m running 0.6 code and the Victory Lap didn’t light. ... ooh so close to 1st place! Highlights included a 7x Bonus multiplier that brought in 571M points!

Quoted from Schwaggs:

No, something is wrong. The balls should exit the wire-form at the inlane. Might have to bend the angle of the wireform so they don't "jump the track"

Quick update. I tried bending the wireform carefully as not to break it, and added a few washers on the bottom left mounting post. Still having balls fly off. The game was setup super steep. I lowered the pitch the other day and now balls are staying on the rails much, much better.

#950 4 years ago
Quoted from 27dnast:

... this is one of those games that’s more fun at a less aggressive pitch. At least in my opinion. Still an ass kicker no matter what.

I took your advice and lowered pitch down. It’s still between 6.5 and 7 range, and it made the game much more playable. When it was too steep, I was just reacting to balls flying everywhere instead of shooting for things.

It’s still an ass kicker! There are very few, if any, lulls in the game. In and out of multiballs, modes firing up left and right, grabbing laps and positions....very good game by Nordman! Gotta give a bunch of credit to Mike Boon and Craig Sylla for the great code, too

#952 4 years ago
Quoted from 27dnast:

tweaking the upper lanes and rebuilding the pops so the ball didn’t fall through the middle lane pass through the pops unscathed every time.

I need to do the same. The green flag kickout takes a few hits before it goes through the gate. Usually only makes the P lane. Top left pop bumper barely working. Need to dial all of those in, too.

My I500 currently has code 0.6A. Would this be prototype game code? Release notes start with 0.8. Are there any other identifiers of prototype I500’s?

Some “glitches” that I’ve noticed:
*doesnt keep a Pit Stop time record
*with Change Setup, when selecting spot PIT letter or Light Lock, the award isn’t given.

Rebuilt the pop bumpers: new brackets, coils, springs, and light sockets. Upgraded skirts to yellow and installed orange translucent pop bodies @zitt. oh, boy! What fast ball action now!

While having the game stripped down, I changed the lane guides and posts up top from factory red to yellow, and wrapped them in translucent Titan silicone rings. It’s much brighter in the pits now. (Light bulbs are Comet 2smd sunlight frosted)

Quoted from Djshakes:

You won't regret it. My keeper lineup: I500, Congo, shadow. That's after owning about every b/w 90s title.

I500 multiballs are some of the best around. Constantly in and out of them. Picking up laps and positions. Seems like endless different modes while playing. Fast ramps and faster loops. It really is a blast...especially with the pop bumpers dialed in strong and sensitive.

#1005 4 years ago

This is boggling my brain....software glitch or total coincidence? High scores #1 and #2 are identical

May 12, 1996 - it's a neeeeewwww track record!

For anyone who hasn’t been to an IndyCar car race in person, I highly recommend doing it at least once. Took my son to Texas Motor Speedway last summer. Getting down to the first row and watching those cars come around is impressive, to say the least. 200-plus mph is really really fast.

Freeplay doesn’t have a heater big enough to make ramps the size of what we need for I500. He did find one and is in the process of setting it up. There is hope.....

Playing some Indy tonight...why is it that I drain every time I am chasing gasoline alley?? Lol

Also...if you want to hear some crazy sound effects...get wrong turn mode and multi-ball going at same time.

#1219 3 years ago
Quoted from RobbyIRL5:

It’s not just you lol. I can’t finish that mode, heck I can hardly stay alive after it starts for whatever reason!

Whew! I thought it was just me choking... I drain a lot during “go for the pole”, too. Even though some of these modes aren’t the “big points”, I still try to complete them. Such a fun game!!

#1222 3 years ago
Quoted from RobbyIRL5:

All of those (J115, J120, and J121) looked fine (no black charring), replaced the U20 (blew that changing bulbs before) and still no upper right GI lights. I'm guessing some sort of bad connection from physically moving the sockets around. Any other suggestions would be appreciated (I'm not sure why bulb is first in line, but will go to it with a continuity tester, and see what I can determine). Wish me luck.

I had my upper left corner of GI that went out and it was a fuse. I can’t recall which one right now, but it was definitely a fuse.
Check these circled fuses for one that’s burned out.

Quoted from RobbyIRL5:

Oddly, when I was in there trying to mess around with my upper right playfield GI's out (ended up being a fuse, F109), I noticed my DMD driver board was loose (I was reseating connections and board was not secure). So I secured it nice and tight and that's when the DMD went garbled. Remembering I did that, I loosened it, and now I'm back to working (with intermittent garbling). I ordered a replacement Rottendog board, see if that fixes is, but in the mean time, what about securely mounting the lower right of the board (tightening the screw against the post) would cause a garbled picture? Could there be noise coming through the post? Or does it position the old board in a manner that something just isn't making the right connection? Hopefully the new one will fix the issue, but just curious to learn wth could be causing it!

There might be a cracked solder spot on one of the pins of the board. When you tighten down the board, it may cause it to flex and lose good connection. Pull the board and look closely at all solder joints. Might be as easy as reflowing the solder on some pins.

Quoted from RobbyIRL5:

What is the recommended (or factory) flipper angle setting? Here’s mine. I thought they were good but then saw the holes about a cm below the ends of the flippers. Am I set way too high? Been able to play fine but the orbits are the hardest shots.
[quoted image]

My flippers were angled down when I first got it. So the ball would roll down the inlane and then go “down” as it rolled down the flipper. Felt like I was always pulling the ball out of the center drain. I adjusted the flippers to where the ball rolls as “straight” as possible from the inlane to the tip of the flipper. It took me a few times loosening and tightening the bolts before i found the spots where I liked the flippers. Here’s a pic of where they are set up currently.

Hey Everyone. Tomorrow, I'll be the second owner of a HUO Indy 500.
I've gone through all 26 pages of this thread but didn't see a whole lot of talk about LED kits.
Is there a consensus as to who puts together the ideal aftermarket kit for this pin?
I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve right now. I can't wait to plug it in and flip the switch.

Comet sunlight 2smd for the playfield GI. Use comet 2smd warm white for the backbox. Don’t worry about doing LEDs in the inserts until you are also ready to add the OCD board with them.
