Quoted from UNCgump:

I continue to have trouble with the rear most lite up target registering hits with mere nudges of the game (and sometimes apparently at rest during gameplay). I can see no physical problem with the target structures or connections. Anyone have any idea what the hell this could be caused by? It's the only bothersome problem with my game, and I actually like to play the targets!

Is that an original board?

Does reseating the connector on the board make it work better for a while?

Try reflowing the solder connections on the opto on the board.

If that doesn't work, I would replace the opto.

The opto block has 2 component, a transmitter (an IR LED) and a receiver (one on either end of the opto). If the circuit board joint to either of those devices develop a cold solder joint or a break develops inside the housing, they can get flaky like this.

Will reevaluate later this week. Thanks to all!

I am still having trouble locating the "One Way Gate" part # A-20524 that prevents rejects to the center "Green Flag" shot. If anyone has any leads please let me know.

Hey Guys,
I was thinking about getting in on the group buy from Pinball Center in order to pick up a set of cabinet decals and a translite.
I know a lot of people have had issues with artwork on plastics from them. That has me skeptical about their other items involving artwork.
Unfortunately, there's lots of info regarding the plastics but nothing on decals or translites that I could find.

I was leaning towards ordering these. The info on their website is nice and extensive.
https://pinballdecalseu.com/shop/indianapolis-500-pinball-cabinet-decals-set/

Where have you guys ordered decals that you really felt matched the colors perfectly? How about a replacement translite?

Thanks

Looking for the same, or at least a passable stand-in

#1556 2 years ago

I think the one on the shooter line from T2 should fit there.

Haven’t seen those side blades, i can’t tell for sure, but are they the crowd in the grandstands? Very cool and fitting.

That’s correct. They were custom made along with the apron .

I reinstalled the cover after the pic.

Yeah the backbox tub thing started on the WPC95 games... from Congo on to Cactus Canyon IIRC.

Hey guys my game is all shopped and it looks and plays great but I spotted a strange behavior... when you hit the LEFT RAMP MADE (36) switch it also counts as a LEFT LIGHT UP (56) target hit? Nothing else really seems out of sorts... anyone else seen this issue and have any idea what's going on?

Short... check your switch matrix ..
Something shorting out...

Perhaps a bad diode at one of the switches?

#1572 2 years ago

I’ve checked all the diodes and replaced the sketchiest looking one. No help. Gonna test the matrix next.

Looks great, congrats!

Mine has those plastic cab protectors as well. Previous owner replaced all the artwork on the cab and backbox and then put those things on. Now the decals are folded and bunched up underneath them so they can't ever come off. Never made sense to me.

#1576 2 years ago

Not a mod but a necessity...
First change to the game .

Started the tear down and major clean.. overall game is in really great shape... According to IPDB the early production games came with the purple on the bottom then changed to a lighter blue, can someone confirm or is mine just the standard playfield..

That’s right Paul! It’s standard. What are your plans while it’s apart?

#1579 2 years ago

Complete tear down , check all assembilies , change all the coil sleeves, regrain the metal redo the pop bumpers and all flippers.
Minor wear by the VUK so Cliffy protector ordered. Lightly sand in cabinet interior, clean all plastics and wire forms, tidy up the wiring ... Could go on ...
Oh clean playfield and put on 3 coats of pure wax. Couple of places where the ball hits the playfield will be Mylar covered..
And its Rob ...

#1580 2 years ago

Lastly will change all the hardware nuts ect to black oxcide screws bolts and locknuts

Nice! The commonly broken turbo lock plastic is even intact! New ramps are now available if needed and cliffy recently came out with better ramp entrance protectors.
Be ready for bounce outs with the protector on the turbo lock. I’ve been playing around with a one way gate to resolve the issue.

Got this far today, still have the flippers and pop bumpers and couple of posts to go...
Then comes the underside

Hate re-doing pop bumpers but the skirts had to be done.
Body color change while re-doing them .
Almost there.. all plastic posts removed cleaned and replaced where needed

Pop bumpers back in .. was minor wear at the turbo VUK , so put cliffy there to stop any more damage..
The coats of pure wax made this playfield like a sheet of glass..

The spring that in the 3 target banks with the 4 lights ...
Any idea of a part number ?
Have one that's pretty well done ?

#1599 2 years ago
Quoted from mollyspub:

Do you have the gate for the upper saucer?

Could you please take a few really close pictures of that part? Also, could you measure out some of the dimensions of this part?

This is part # A-20524 (One-way Gate Assembly according to the manual). This part is missing from my game and a few others. I am thinking that I will need to have my own made since nobody carries this part number.

Thank you

Have some metal still to clean I remember taking one off there so should be in the pile...
