Quoted from Apex:

Going to be hard to tell from a picture. But basically you want to bend it so the angle between the back of the vuk and the playfield is at a lower angle. You could also look at it like you want to bend the top of the vuk toward the player.

So am I just bending the top of the VUK downward towards the player/ playfield ? Any idea why cliffy mentions trimming the blue pad?

#1502 2 years ago

Yup. My experience is that as the vuk gets hammered over time the angle and pad tend to bounce the ball almost straight back towards the entrance. When you bent the vuk toward the player, the rebound is directed more down which will help land in the saucer. The reason I am guess cliffy mentions trimming the pad is that if you bend the vuk far enough toward the player the pad can catch the ball as it ejected up the vuk.

So I bent the top of the VUK downwards a bit. Before I did this the top of it was almost touching the plastics above it. Can anyone tell me that did this as well if it looks like it's bent down far enough? I'm still getting bouce outs / more so with the cliffy installed.

I'd never install the cliffy to begin with

Yeah I've read other people saying the same thing. It does however look much better than the enterance getting chewed up. Hope to get the vuk tweeked right to be able to keep the cliffy on.

What I should have said is

Do you have a gate installed? Mine had the cliffy when I bought it. Bounce outs all the time. Didn't want the work of removing it or messing with the backstop. Installed a gate. Bounce outs are now extinct.

No i dont but it has come to mind. I just installed some foam along the side of the left side ball guide. I'll see how that goes.
Did you fabricate a gate ? how is it mounted? I've seen a post where holes were drilled in the ball guides . I'm hesisatant to do this in fear I'll screw it up!

I think I bought this from Marco Specialties. I just mounted it to the post, the other side is amply held in place by slight downward pressure so that it is sturdy and doesn't seem to slide on the plastic or seem to rotate on the post in either direction. I've played hundreds of games since doing this and it's worked beautifully.

Thanks for posting . Kinda surprised this works on such a angle .

It doesn't look quite right, but it covers as much of the ball path as you need to do the job, and the rebound force that would produce a bounce out is pretty low velocity. Others may have better approaches, but this was easy to install and it's lasted!

Thanks again for posting ! I'll have to give it a try. Has anyone tried just removing the blue cushion all together ? Generally scoops don't have cushions anyways.

yup, removed the blue cushion and added target foam in its place, works well for me, still get the odd bounce out but ok.

So I added a gate but the ball would get stuck on it from the rebound. I double checked your pic and I see you don't have the plastic there. Mine is present along with a protector . So my height is higher than yours. I'll have to continue to make something work.

I don't know what plastic I'm missing, but you may simply be able to find a different-size gate.

Welcome race fans! Recently pulled this beauty off of a route op a couple hours from my house! I have never seen or played I500 but it looked neat and I never seem to have a Nordman game so I took a chance on it!

Besides being REAL dirty and having a couple busted parts it all seems to be there and I think it’s gonna clean up real nice.

Playfield is polished and now needs waxed, waiting on all the metal to come out of the tumbler, clean ramps and re-assemble w/ new titans. Then it goes back on the floor and Corvette is coming off the floor for the same treatment.

The lightup targets are the most challenging aspect from a parts perspective, but they are out there, a pinsider was making the boards for awhile if you need them. But if they work fine, all good! It's a great game, nice fairly simple shooter.

Also a pinsider making new plastic ramps.

#1521 2 years ago

Here are cliffys latest protectors ! See the before and after. The new ones cover the end of the ramps as opposed to the factory attempt. A sharp eye will catch the slight misfit on the left side of the ramp. This is due only to a early version of Ramp o Matics Indy500 replacement ramps.I’ve been told that Jody has since corrected the issue . Both sides ramp protectors are in the kit .

Does anyone sell individual playfield plastics for Indy? I need the plastic that goes on the rail in the right rear corner and the plastic that is over the standup target under the turbo.

Planetary does. Look through the Indy 500 specific parts.

They have the rear corner red plastic GS-1531-2503-11 but I don't see the plastic that sits above the yellow standup under the turbo outside of the full set. Does anyone know the part number for that plastic piece?

I am currently shopping out an Indy 500 for a friend. The turbo weldment has about a dozen broken welds that need to be fixed. Unfortunately, the freeze method has been unsuccessful in removing the turbo decal. All that has happened is a tiny bit of the corner chipped off.

Welding will ruin the decal, and I haven't been able to source a replacement anywhere (pinballlife, planetary, Marcos, actionpinball, MoP, pinballspareparts, etc..)

Does anybody know of a source for these?

My new Indianapolis 500 Topper... Exact replica of the artwork between the flippers on the playfield.

I purchased directly from the souvenir shop, at the Indy-500 raceway. My first and only time there, celebrating my Buddy's 50th Birthday. Us, 3 couples were there for the race years ago. I had purchased many misc. things there from the race... one of which was this 7-flag display, I thought would make neat topper.

Doesn't obviously appear so. Really, it mostly depends on how it plays (dead bounce, shot angles, cradling).

My newly acquired Indy 500.

I am looking for the wire gate assembly in front of the upper center saucer "Green Flag" shot. If anyone knows the part number or someone who might have one, please let me know.

The part number is pulling up as a drop target but I’m guessing it’s out there somewhere.

I was looking for a unique topper and ran across this.
With the crazy asking prices nowadays, this fits right in.

Got mine yesterday. This really works well! Now I want to flank it with some scale model Indy cars.

Same idea here.
I've had no luck finding a 1:18, or larger, scale model of Jacques Villeneuve's car at an acceptable price.

Ipdb says the game came out on June 6th, so they didn't know JV had won when it was designed. So even though that player's livery is cool, one could make the argument a replica beast would be just as cool.

So Al Unser Jr. maybe makes more sense to use. Could also do something using the different styles of car from years past (a la match sequence)

I suspect you could do a few basic options cheaply, maybe even one in 3D.
But then again I have no experience with that other than extrapolating from general mods I've seen on other machines. But does a close parellel exist on another machine that also has a launch button instead of a plunger?

I continue to have trouble with the rear most lite up target registering hits with mere nudges of the game (and sometimes apparently at rest during gameplay). I can see no physical problem with the target structures or connections. Anyone have any idea what the hell this could be caused by? It's the only bothersome problem with my game, and I actually like to play the targets!

I'd start with basic stuff like cleaning the opto and reseating the connector in case you haven't. Next I'd go into switch test and wiggle the board around to see if basic movement of any kind seems to be triggering it, make sure its screwed down tight, etc. Of course, if its actually triggering on its own it could be some kind of an issue with the opto or the light up board itself. Good news is that pinsider Dumbass makes them. I replaced all of three of mine with his last summer and they're awesome. He can make them with wider optos too, to cut down on the whole broken opto disrupter tab issue.
