A relatively quick project. About (2) days after work to start and complete. If I had slowed down a bit I would have paid closer attention to detail to match the relic inscriptions a bit better. and NOT accidentally MELT most of the detail away with a hair dryer. But, eh lol

It will have (2) Flashers wired into the ramp flashers. And (3) lights that sync up with all (3) relics in the game and DMD panel. I will be drilling holes on an angle to the top surface and mounting the lights so they are invisible.

Step 1, file down and sand the resin mold of the idol and give it a few layers of primer

Step 2, Cut 1 small half circle and 2 large half circles and glue them together. Sketched out a design and started carving away.

Step 3, Primer. ***I later by being impatient using a hair dryer on high. I MASSIVELY MELTED THE ENTIRE BASE. So many parts lost all the detail and became deformed. However, I like to tell myself it was just a naturally anomaly like nature to stone... sigh

*** This is before I melted it, you can see later how the detail was melted together ***

Step 4, Gold paint... Paint the idol.

Step 5, texture pating between layers of clear and sanding.

Step 6, add a bracket on the bottom to prevent the topper from moving. I jus tused (2) L-Brackets used for shelving.

Over all, I wish I slowed down and did not rush it. Like melting the base or not making the relic inscriptions wider and thicker. But, for winging it, it was a fun little project.

Damn that's sick man, good job!

That's Awesome.

Thanks Should be cool when I get around to putting in the lights. The only reason I did not add them tonight is I ran out of wire. I drove to radio shack and they no longer sell rolls of colored wire. How crazy is that. Radio shack has just about nothing these days.

Be happy to help anyone who wants to make one. And I may have enough carving foam to make another. It is not standard foam. It is made for carving.

Awesome work! How'd you make the idol?

The Idol is actually a mold cast from the original from the film. It is a hollywood prop and when you get the resin copy it is full of gobs and crap that you have to whittle down with a dremel and sand paper.

That is certifiably awesome.

And if you come home and find a bag of sand up there instead - wasn't me.

Love it! Wouldn't look quite as flashy, but this would also be a much easier topper to make ...
