Quoted from pch3727:

It has a pretty definitive end. The last season is WILD.

Big fan of the left overs. I thought season two was not that great, but man they wrapped it up excellently for me in season three. I highly recommend the whole series.

Quoted from gweempose:

Future Man on Hulu is another fun show that I'd highly recommend! It's an adult sci-fi comedy.

finally got around to watching it, already on season 2 and loving it! Time travel altering timelines done well, the two future soldiers are both great. Definitely not kid friendly! "not fully charge yet!" "Standard operating procedure to ease the tension"

Also anyone that likes severance, the actress from that is in this show.

#2453 48 days ago
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

Did that show have a planned ending or was it canceled?

The writers knew that it was their last season and they were able to end it on their own terms. It is definitely a very satisfying conclusion.

Binged The Bear on Hulu after seeing it mentioned here. I grew up in the restaurant and bar biz so I really enjoyed watching it.

Season 3 of the Future Man was an absolute abortion, what a waste of a great start to a series.

IN MY OPINION

it lost me at season 2, could not get through it and season 1 was fantastic

Quoted from Oscope:

Another big thumbs up for "The English" on Amazon
The best western I have seen in a very long time and the plot, characters and scenery are spectacular.
It is very violent and gritty, but probably close to reality in those times.

Have you seen Deadwood?
Yup I’d say it was pretty violent

IN MY OPINION

Yeah, season 3 was a huge disappointment. I LOVED season 1, and I even liked season 2 a lot, but season 3 was kind of a train wreck.

Watching SOAP on tubi with my wife. She's never seen it and I have not seen it since it originally aired. That show was way ahead of its time and hilarious! I love the live studio audience too as you here people coughing and such.

Couldn’t agree more. Season 1 of Futureman was absolutely brilliant. And then it just fell off a cliff.

Started watching Ted Lasso last night......so far, so good.

On season 4 or Prison Break, revisiting that one from the 90s or whenever.

2 weeks later

Found a hidden gem on Prime: Garth Marenghi's Darkplace (2004)

If you like campy, so-bad-it's-good humor, give this a look. Features Matt Berry (WWDITS) and Richard Ayoade, who later appear together in The IT Crowd. Funny stuff! Only six episodes though...

Stoopernatural goings on in a cheesy hospital, what a setup! And episode 1 has a pinball in the background in their break room, so I'm off to include it in that thread as well!

My kid's loved Wednesday - Me ... not so much

Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

My kid's loved Wednesday - Me ... not so much

That's understandable. It had a pre-teen vibe to it. With that said, I enjoyed it. Maybe I'm just a kid at heart, though. It reminded me of Harry Potter in a few ways.

#2471 25 days ago

Luis Guzman lives here in Vermont. I saw an interview on local news where he said he couldn't believe when he got Romania for filming, it was to pretend they were in Vermont.

I wanted to like it, but some of the acting was so bad it was distracting
Emma Myers', the werewolf, acting makes me want to scratch my eyeballs - reminds me of a kid in a high school play
& Luis Guzmán who plays Gomez is usually very good, but horrible in this role

I really enjoyed Wednesday but agree with you on the Gomez character choice. It just didn't work for me.

Dude does resemble Gomez in the original comic more than any previous actor. But yeah, it's hard to imagine anyone holding a candle to John Astin's zany energy, Raul Julia included. Guzman didn't even try to.

I was not expecting Emma Myers to be Meryl Streep, and her vibe seemed appropriate to me, no complaints.

I saw him fifteen years ago in a Chinese restaurant in Brattleboro, I was thrilled! Not many celebs sightings in Vermont in my experience.

I’m up to Ep-5 of The Peripheral on Amazon
Sci-Fi time travel with interesting storyline and characters including taking control of real body shells (peripherals) using virtual headset technology
Enjoying it so far and looks like a winner

I just finished up the 8th episode of The Peripheral. Its OK. It is interesting to watch and all, but it is somewhat mentally jarring (which fits the whole theme of the story, doesn't it?). I am a big Gibson fan and have read all of his books including The Peripheral. As I am watching the show, I am sitting there thinking, well this is cool, but then all of a sudden, wait, what!?!? That doesn't seem to be the way the book went at all. So I took a break and reread the book again, which is great and way out there like all of his stuff.

Bottom line is, they have the idea of the storyline from the book, but have diverged from the details widely and wildly, basically making it a different story entirely. If you are a fan of the book, that may bother you. I'm on the fence, trying to enjoy the show as it unfolds, but at the same time kind of aggravated that they didn't just stick with the original storyline (for whatever reasons).

I would be interested to know the opinions of anyone who never read the book and just watched this series, did you like it?

So is it necessary to watch the Boba Fett series before going into the new Mandolorian series? I heard that Fett wasn't too great, but if you want to know the ongoing fate of the little green rotter after he went off with THE Luke Skywalker, you would have to watch it.

#2483 19 days ago
Quoted from AntennaMan:

it was to pretend they were in Vermont.

That's because there are no State tax breaks for production to come here unlike some neighboring States. When Funny Farm was filmed on the green of Townsend, they used fake snow around the Maple trees. Killed them. Aunt Jemima syrup filmed a commercial in Newfane. Unfortunately there is no maple syrup in the Aunts recipe and that left a bad taste in Vermonters mouths.
Hallmark films their "Vermont" pieces somewhere else.

I never read the book and liked the show quite a bit. I’m interested to see where it is going. It reminds me of Westworld a bit. I think it has some of the same producers.

Also never read but enjoyed the series. I would think in todays climate, they may have pushed the female character to the forefront and diminished her brother. It would Interesting to hear how the tv show has differed from the book.

You probably at least need to watch episodes 5-7. Episodes 5-6 are basically episodes of The Mandalorian.

Thanks, I am going to try Westworld. The original movie from way back was great.

In the book Flynne is indeed the major character, so that part is good, no agenda was applied. Flynne and Burton and Connor are all intact and pretty much the same characters. The basic running idea of the story is the same with the jackpot, the stubs and such. But the details of the story veer all over the place away from the book. Spoilers would sprout everywhere if these were expanded further. Its OK though, its still entertaining and that's always the key. Good cliffhanger ending for Season 1 too. Also a note, Lowbeer comes in at the end, and that character is a major part of the book. Good portrayal of that character too. Looks like they will be developing that for the next season, which has been approved.

OK thanks, we are going to try Fett soon, if it gets too boring we'll jump to 5-7 so we can get to the new Mando season.

Will be interesting to hear what you think. Great atmosphere and cast, but I always found myself dozing off during episodes and seemed like they could never really deliver on the premise (which is admittedly awesome). Got too loopy for me in Season 3 and I bailed.

Loved season 1 and it progressively lost me from there.
There is a lot going on in the show and a lot to keep in your head for it to make sense
I think I also bailed after season 3

My wife bailed at the same point. I've been meaning to revisit solo.

Season 1 was amazing though.

Me too, and now that it's too late to watch it on HBO, and I swore off wasting my life watching commercials in 1998 (thanks, TiVo!), guess I'll never have a chance to attempt getting back into it, unless I find a used DVD set for cheap.

Thanks for the reply without spoilers. Good to hear it’s trying to staying somewhat true to the books. I thought it might have been like the movie salt, where they changed out the character from male to female. Or like jack reacher where they had tiny tom cruise fill the roll of a big dude. (The new reacher series is better with a big guy).

I think I read it’s based on 3 books. How far did they go into book 1? My concern is once they loose the rails like game of thrones, the peripheral would also it’s path.

#2495 18 days ago

I liked all seasons of Westworld and thought some aspects of the last season were really brilliant. However, that season started to fizzle by the end, and the ending was a bit of a let down. The producers had planned for one more season but didn’t get it. So, while it is still an actual ending, I did feel like something was missing.

The show seems to be based on the first book The Peripheral. Looks like he will write a Jackpot Trilogy, the second one is called Agency and came out just recently and the third one has not been released yet. I thought I had read all of his books but I haven't read Agency yet so I need to get on that.

It's hard to relate how far it went in book 1 because of the plot changes.

I did recently reread Gibson's first trilogy called the Sprawl Trilogy which includes Neuromancer, Count Zero, and Mona Lisa Overdrive. These are great, especially if you are a Matrix fan. Basically Gibson invented the Matrix long before the movie, and the Wachowskis admittedly got it from there.

"Mona Lisa Overdrive" is even the name of one of the songs on the soundtrack - when Trinity is on the motorcycle on that extended chase sequence in Reloaded.

I really dug the Peripheral - it's a good mix of "WTF is going on here?" and the dual plotlines worked well I thought. I haven't read the book yet, so I can't commend on how much it diverges. I did recently start re-reading Neuromancer coincidentally!

When you watch the first episode, pay close attention to some of the music during the episode and see if you recognize some of the music.
I'll give you one hint: Soundgarden.

Didn't see that anyone posted it, just finished Full Swing on Netflix. It was pretty good, although probably it will appeal most to golfers and golf fans. Yes the LIV situation is covered well enough, but it doesn't become all about that. The focus is more on the players themselves, sort of as golf-centered human interest stories. Its basically Drive to Survive, but about golf instead of F1 racing.

The new season of Drive to Survive just hit also, watched one so far. Its ok, also probably better for F1 or car racing fans. Lots more action than the golf show with cars going around fast and crashing all over the place.

The Consulant is a good watch. Christoph Waltz at his finest. Only 6 episodes and about a half hour each. This one will keep you guessing.
