Quoted from northerndude:

I have great quality on my channels and my Video on demand has HD and 4k

I'm going to research your setup and try something similar. I have a VPN and can access all kinds of things thru KODI, but who wants to click on every single HBO option and try to figure out what movie it is or what time it started. Its like, here are all these options but a crisp shoot as to what it is. I am an absolute beginner in this realm, admittedly.

Thanks for the suggestions! It sounds like The Expanse is worth my time, so I'll plan to start there.

Perry Mason black and white. Raymond Bur.

We need another Deadwood!
There’s a show on AHC called Gunslingers. The episode last night was about Seth Bullock. The HBO series really has a lot of historical facts in it.I was late to the party but I loved it and was sorry when I had to leave!Warrior on HBO max is coming back and I can’t wait

Quoted from ronaldvg:

Star Trek fan here and in my opinion Stange new Worlds is one of the best Star Trek shows since TOS. Really captures the original vibe perfectly.

Sorry but I disagree.
I found it to be filled with sophomoric dialog combined with endless one liner banter between the characters. No one in the show can shut up and junior officers overriding and shouting at Capt. Pike just makes for bad scifi TV.

How about Godless on netflix? I haven't seen it, but it looked promising.

Mike - it's about Mike Tyson's life. So far it's entertaining.
Not sure of Platform it's on as I use Kodi. Edited - apparently HULU

Anyone else think Cobra Kai season 5 was lame?

Best supporting cast, The Expanse.

I thought David Strathairn was fantastic as Ashford! The girl who played Drummer was great as well. I LOVE the Belter dialect and accent!

Shohreh Aghdashloo (Chrisjen), Cara Gee (Drummer) - there were so many good and strong characters. Wes Chatham was another.

No reason to be sorry, these are all opinions after all. I thought of it as it was before the Kirk period that Star Fleet was not so military yet and more finding its hierarchy. That said I found the remarks of Erica sometimes really cringeworthy.

All in all I found it very entertaining and cannot wait for the next season. With every form of entertainment different people look and experience it differently. For instance soccer is huge here, but I do not like it at all. We cannot all like the same things, fortunately

It definitely reminds me of OG Star Trek. It is a bit corny, but that is part of the charm to me. I agree about Erica. I also agree about the lack of deference to rank and wish it was more like the Next Generation in that respect. Perhaps, however, that is how Captain Pike prefers to lead, with less custom and formality.

When Next Gen premiered, I was in college. The target audience, because I also loved TOS and sci-fi in general. But I could only stand about 20 mins - first for me, the art sucked. The ship had too many holes, was stubby, fat and ugly. The unitards were formless sacks, the Oki-data displays were hideous. The bridge had CARPET on it. (For me - The best Star Trek designs lived in Wrath of Khan). This was just hideous and then they stuck a child on the bridge. That was it for me. It was 30 years before I made myself watch the rest of the episode, and then the seasons - once you got past the awful art designs, the stories weren't bad. So you never know until you watch enough of a season to let it settle.

I'd say that was a step up from the unitards. Plus, he could double as an extra on the George Pal version of The Time Machine, or even Logan's Run.

I searched and didn't see the Hulu series Chance mentioned. Nice two season bingeworthy psychological crime thriller starring Hugh Laurie with a refreshing role for Ethan Suplee as a badass dude instead of a dumbass one (e.g. My Name is Earl). Mr. Suplee has chops I was not aware of!

I think you mean Ethan Suplee, who played Randy. Jason Lee played Earl.

Correct, will edit. Thanks, I guess, but a PM would have prevented the embarrassment I'm sure you weren't after.

Hacks on HBO is hilarious. We just finished watching season 2. It was officially renewed for season 3 earlier this year and it will be interesting to see where they go with it.

Speaking of comedies, Ted Lasso is about due, right? That episode about the kid with bad breath is freakin' brilliant!

We are eagerly waiting for the next season. Hands down one of the best series ever.

Sure it was mentioned but Shooter was a good series.

Quoted from northerndude:

Late to the party, but just finished Squid Game, I was entertained.

I just finished it, usually I figure if something is that massively popular it probably won't be great, because well most people have bad taste. And I only knew the general premise of what it was about which seemed somewhat weird but not necessarily that interesting. So it was never on my radar all that time since it came out. Finally, I watched the first episode to check it out, and after that finished I was like, OK, wow that was pretty slick (and bonus - sick). Then I watched the rest, and as you said, I was entertained. Man that just went all over the place, I enjoyed it.

This is the kind of stuff that can come out when the vision of one (slightly crazy) guy is allowed to come to life unfettered by the usual politics and censorship. I hope they can carry that same vibe through the second season.

Squid Game is on Netflix.

What's interesting is, there are a number of shows (mostly foreign) that follow the same basic premise to some degree. I had watched quite a few so when Squid Game came out and everyone was 'ohh ohh ohh' about it, I ignored it for some time. When I finally did watch it, I liked it, but I did not think it was the best of the bunch. It apparently got lucky in the social media popularity contest by the right people hyping it at the right time. Another one in the same vein to check out is Alice In Borderland.

I’m ready to start a new show to watch while my wife is out. Should it be Rings of Power or House of the Dragon? What’s the consensus if choosing between the two?

Both.
I’m doing both at the same time right now.
Both winners in a different way

I’m going to have to choose one to do before the other. I’m leaning towards House of the Dragon, but that’s more of an HBO bias than anything about the shows.

#2136 1 year ago

I haven't seen Rings of Power, but I'm loving House of the Dragon. I really didn't expect to be that interested in the universe again after the original series, particularly in a prequel. I think it's really well done, but it is brutal.

Quoted from Nokoro:

I’m going to have to choose one to do before the other. I’m leaning towards House of the Dragon, but that’s more of an HBO bias than anything about the shows.

I watched the first episode of Rings of Power, solid production values but a little slow moving and they picked some odd looking actors for key elves (I'm looking at you Elrond -- more aloof and ethereal and less Keebler, please). I'll watch it all at some point but it's not actively drawing me back. That said I came in with an attitude problem (why mess with the beloved canon?) so the show would probably have to be a home run to overcome that.

I'm caught up on House of Dragons, the first episode was great, there've been some solid eps since but also a fair number of dull or implausible scenes. So halfway into the first season I'd say still interesting, but not as griping as the original series. But I'll keep watching as the new episodes drop (there's apparently a time jump mid-season so we're all about to meet new actors playing some of the key characters, which could be great or disastrous).

Of the two I'd recommend House of Dragons, but know that it's not perfect and will have trouble measuring up to OG GOT (as would most shows, of course).

How about Wheel of Time or The Witcher?

Thanks all. I’ll start House of the Dragon tonight and save Rings of Power for later.

Tried The Witcher. Liked the first episode. Lost steam after the second. I should go back. Haven’t tried Wheel of Time. I heard mixed reviews about it.

2: rings of power

Completely under my radar, a new show has appeared on Netflix called The Pentaverate.

I saw it in the banner menu and thought, hey, that guy looks kind of like Mike Myers. And it was him, in one of the many, many elaborate costumes for different characters he plays in the series. I am very impressed, and I'm just getting started.

If you like somewhat deadpan comedy and action, it will be right up your alley! Good for Mike, I was wondering what he'd been up to.

time jump mid-season

So 10 years later turns ranera, her husband, the queen and a couple others into completely different human beings…king viserys near death and collapsing at every turn is somehow still alive 10 years later but looks like he aged 40 years…the hand of the king looks to have had some just for men grey highlights added

Meanwhile, dameon, sir christen and the hunky dude who whipped his ass in the sword training scene haven’t aged a day

The new actress who plays Ranera. I’m not sold on her. The other things I can live with. The best I’m hoping from this series is some cool battles with dragons. The characters in this series are stale so far. The water dancer had about 10 minutes at best in GOT and was 10 times more interesting than any of these on HOTD.

SPOILER -

Yeah I'm kind of in same thoughts. I just had to read what the king has - it says he has a form of Leprosy so that would be a long slow death.
That new Ranera - meh.

Watching the new lord of the rings. I am enjoying it, but primarily because the set designs and effects are so nice.

If you enjoyed the rings in the past this is for you. I did.

There is some good acting in here, but sometimes it feels strange (acting and perhaps casting). I’ll watch the whole thing, it cost them over 500 million to make it.
