Just finished watching “Episodes” on Showtime. Really great show. The very first episode is not that great but quickly gets better after that.

Also just watched the first episode of “War of the Worlds” on Epix. It was really well done and had that slow building tension that I really like. I hope the other episodes match it.

For all of man kind is great.

Also watching the servant. We are through the first season and I still don’t know if it is good or not.

#1104 2 years ago

Its not a series, but I did really much enjoy viewing Sir David Attenboroughs last thing on Netflix, "Life in color".

The last miniseries I watched on Netflix: The Serpent. It tells the story of a serial killer, Charles Sobhraj, who robbed and murdered tourists in Asia (mostly Thailand, but not only) starting in the 70's.
Tahar Rahim plays the role of the serial killer, and this actor is damn good.
Not too bloody / gore, but scary.

Yep. I did really enjoy this one too. Netflixs own content is getting better and better, I think.

The Servant took a dump in season 2

Started The Serpent and really like it . We are like 6 episodes in and so far it is great. They definitely made the main character creepy as hell. Great acting

I’m watching Jupiter’s legacy on Netflix. If you like superheroes this is for you.

I’m watching ‘Mare of Easttown’ on HBO

It’s pretty good set in a fictionalized Philly burbs nearby where I’m from. They say it’s got great Philly accents but to me it’s a bit thick over exaggerated, I can hear it somewhat true.

Only thing is they make the town look halfway like Appalachian, now I’m not saying the burbs are super snooty like Big Little Lies (Monterey) but I don’t remember it being that Hicksville but maybe some parts are like Bethel township and it’s filmed in Aston PA.

I made the mistake of starting a few series with friends. Now I’m sitting on my hands waiting to finish them.

Mandolorian and Jupiter’s legacy…

I hears Kate Winslet is now a fan of Wawa's. LOL

Currently watching this and I love it. Interviews and archive footage to complement the main docudrama.
I watched "The Founder" 3 or 4 times and it's in the same vein.

A lot of hot naked ladies too.

Loki is very good.

I've never watched that. I like action and adventure stuff. That sounds too "low key" for me.

I'm surprised Kevin Can F**K Himself is on AMC and not some pay channel. I tried watching the first episode and hated every character except Allison. I didn't make it past 12 minutes before I bailed. But critics seem to like it.

I watched the full first episode. It’s a great concept but it was completely unclear where the story was heading, and ultimately didn’t hold my attention. I couldn’t see it advancing beyond the clever concept to something I would want to watch week after week.

Getting a little desperate for shows because of the Covid slowdown, so tried a couple:

Animal Kingdom. This is actually a pretty good show with characters that are all good, except "Smurf" is just ok. I enjoyed it for what it is and Season 5 is just starting.

War of the Worlds (EPIX). This show is incredibly bad. Simply awful. It's poorly done science fiction and another Walking Dead post apocalypse wanna be. Very little actual science fiction plot and a lot of stupid characters, subplots and corny dialog that is truly meaningless.

#1119 2 years ago

I’m watching a show right now called Goliath.
It stars Goliath who plays a washed up attorney that goes after large corporations and dirty politicians.
It stars Billy Bob Thornton. I enjoy it.
Check it out.

Love Animal Kingdom. I think I discovered it because of this thread.

I did really like season 1 of War of the Worlds. It was slow, but it had good characters and tension. I’ve watched the first two episodes of Season 2 so far, and I think it has ruined the show for me. Completely changed the whole premise, and I’ve lost interest. Will probably still watch, but I’m disappointed.

Just finished up Manifest and about half through Mare of Easttown. Probably going to watch session 6 or 7 of Australian Survivor next for a change of pace.

I was dumb enough to be tempted to watch the butt of that cute actress in Sex life on Netflix and wasted 8 hours of my life.

There's an article in Le Parisien interviewing the French engineering students who got him arrested. It's the part where the show took some liberty from the real events, you should read it.

"Startup" on Netflix is pretty decent.

"Startup" on Netflix is pretty decent.

Don't bother getting invested in watching it. According to Forbes, "nine out of ten startups will fail. This is a hard and bleak truth."

Started watching Tin Star on prime. Interesting cop show set in Canadian rockies.

I'm on episode 5-6 of Manifest not sure how I feel about it yet.

My wife was really why i watched it. Its ok and does have some good parts but alittle slow for me. Reminded me of Lost mixed with a few other shows.

Quoted from rai:

That's around where I gave up, it's slow as hell.

Then Netflix didn't renew the show for a season 4 so unlike Lost whose questionable end was at least an end, there won't be one for Manifest. The truth is elsewhere, I'll leave that to X-Files.

Perfect summation!
Had to turn it off, could have been a winner.

#1131 2 years ago

Deadwood if you haven’t seen it!
I highly recommend Warrior on HBO
Actually their both on HBO Max

#1132 2 years ago

Just finished Season 6 of Fear The Walking Dead. It's not great but watchable. Decent enough for TWD addicts like me.

Warning - cryptic spoiler:

I loved the solution found by the lady with the baby and the dog - that was creative thinking in desperate times!

I’ve been watching Golden Girls. Hulu Yes a 44 yr old man watching GG. It was my grandmother’s favorite show.

Atypical is a great show you cant watch with your wife

My grandmothers favorite show was Johnny Carson. Golden girls could be a hot pin in the right hands. That just sounds wrong. But i could be right.

Public image rise.

Yeah, I gave up on this as well. Each time saying maybe this episode I'll get invested. It was slow and I felt like I was watching a soap. It became mind numbing. I just couldn't watch it anymore.

#1137 2 years ago

Started watching The Mentalist series on dvd. I miss my shows like CSI, 24, etc. and I am always looking for something similar.
It is an interesting series about a really smart guy that uses logic to help solve crimes, showing the true capabilities of 'psychics'. So far it has kept my interest.

#1138 2 years ago

My wife and I really liked The last Kingdom on Netflix. Thinking of watching it again, since we can't find something we like. I'm watching The Originals on Netflix, but I'm not sure if it's for me? My wife doesn't care for it,but I'm still hanging in there.

Looking for a show (series) you can watch with your kids,
Try the BBC's Horrible Histories (streaming on Hulu and Amazon Prime)
In the vein of Monty Python's Holy Grail & Life of Brian and Black Adder series and certain SNL sketches.

It is a Childrens' BBC comedy series based on the best-selling books written by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown.
Starting out in the Savage Stone Age, Horrible Histories progresses through the Awful Egyptians, Rotten Romans, Vicious Vikings, Measly Middle Ages, Terrible Tudors, Gorgeous Georgians and Vile Victorians, right up to the Woeful Second World War.
Covers mostly UK history, but also has sketches of USA pioneers.

Liberally splattered with guts, blood, farts, poo & pee, Horrible Histories romps through the ages in a collection of sketches, cartoons and quizzes.
Each episode features a mixture of sketches from different ages, played by the ensemble cast,
and commentary from the show's host Rattus Rattus - the talking rat.
The show also includes pastiches of some familiar TV formats such as
Historical Wife Swap, Historical Hospital, Historical Celebrity chef, and Ready Steady Feast;
and various spoof songs, for example a musical journey through 18th Century British history in the style of a Westlife ballad, sung by four King Georges.

All in an attempt to be humorous and educational.
I found it to be very fun and informative.
Discovered it initially when I was living in the UK about 9 yrs ago.

Why do you say that? My wife asked me if I want to start watching it today and I told her no because of your post, lol! She thinks it sounds good and were looking for a change of pace from mystery, drug, and reality shows with a comedy.

#1141 2 years ago

schmihadoon!

not a big musical fan, but i enjoyed the first 2 episodes out so far on apple+.

I know one thing. If I ever watch a series of seasons again. I think I'm going to wait until they have 6 or 7 seasons to watch, in case I like it.

After 2 or 3 seasons, I don't like waiting a year or more for another season to start.

I got spoiled binge watching Sons Of Anarchy, Sopranos, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead. There was enough to entertain me.

Two great and mostly overlooked shows that fit your criteria, both are completed according to the writers.

Mr Inbetween - black comedy/drama about an Australian hitman balancing work with family and friends. Three seasons, twenty six episodes 22-28 mins long. It's on HULU

Patriot - comedy/drama about a damaged intelligence officer that has to fake his way into a piping company in order to work overseas for some unofficial espionage. Two seasons, eighteen episodes 37-57 mins long. It's on Amazon

Miracle Workers on TBS is a good show. Very funny and entertaining. I just watched episode 1 of Season 3. Steve Buscemi and Daniel Radcliffe are two of the main actors in it. Every season is a new theme with a different story & different characters than the previous season, but with the same cast playing the new characters.

I really get your point, but I think some series aren't made to be binge watched. Ofcourse, its all a matter of personal taste, but imo sometimes the wait makes up for lower quality. (Not when it came to final season of GoT though.)

I’m anxiously awaiting Season 3 of After Life with Ricky Gervais on Netflix. Was pleasantly surprised by the first 2 seasons.

Thanks to someone posting on this thread we have been bing watching Billions. Great series on Amazon.
