Quoted from rai:

Nice but did you forget Sopranos? Lost?

No, because neither has been recommended to me by at least 3 people.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

Sons of anarchy is a great show.

I liked it at first but when I found out who lived and who died, I quit watching. It's just my opinion. I consider my time too important to watch shows I am not thrilled with.

Quoted from Azmodeus:

I was able to attend a filming of the episode "little Jerry Seinfeld". It was thanksgiving eve.
It was actually called this.
https://www.google.com/search?q=little+jerry+sienfeld&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
If you listen at the very end credits there is coughing. I got so sick. I had to walk out several times at the End to not make noise with my coughing.
In the credits you can hear the Coughing. That is unfortunately, me. But there, immortalized none the less!

Nice! I'll listen for it if/when I rewatch the series.

I'll be #2 then. Soprano's is the best TV show ever made. Breaking Bad is a very, very close second.

If you're looking a couple of comedies I recommend Curb your enthusiasm and Veep. Veep has the funniest one liners and putdowns you'll ever hear. Curb is a more neurotic version of Seinfeld.

Quoted from TRAMD:

I don't watch many TV shows and I will just quit watching a TV series if I am not enamored with it. Also, I make it a rule that I don't watch a TV show unless at least 3 different people recommend it to me. This seriously reduces how many shows I even start but it has rarely failed me. The following shows are the only ones that this has caused me to watch and my opinion of each:
Highly recommend:
Scrubs - one of my favorite shows ever. Great comedy and drama from start to finish. I am also a doctor and it is very medically accurate
Seinfeld - the greatest comedy series ever, IMO. I didn't start watching it until after they quit making new episodes. I am considering watching it again.
Breaking Bad - Simply the greatest series ever made. Plays out like an extended movie more than a TV show. I am currently watching it for a second time and it is awesome all over again.
Game of Thrones - This was ready to unseat Breaking Bad as the greatest show ever until they messed it up with the last season. Still awesome overall. Warning: The first two seasons are not as engrossing as later seasons but going through them is necessary and worth it. The third season is better but the fourth through the seventh is where it is truly great. Season 8 is the worst.
The Boys - Amazon Prime original and only one season completed but it is absolutely incredible. I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you are a superhero/comic fan.
Meh:
Big Bang Theory - I loved it at first but quit a little over halfway through the series as the themes became repetitive. I had it recommended to me as I have a physics degree and love Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons.
Walking Dead - The first couple of episodes were awesome but then I lost interest before the end of the first season and have never returned. I probably won't either.
No:
Sons of Anarchy - started to watch it but quit when my wife confirmed that every character I liked would die. Also, I considered Jace, the main character, to be an anti-hero and didn't like his character at all.
Jury's out:
Stranger Things - I loved the first season but just haven't felt compelled yet to return and watch seasons 2 and 3 yet.
Dexter - my most recommended show ever (5 people) but I haven't started it yet
Deadwood - recommended by 3 people. Haven't started it yet. Of note, I live about 30 miles away from Deadwood and my first job was there.
Another issue is that my stay-at-home wife is a prolific show watcher and has either seen almost every show or cheats and watches them ahead of me if we start one together. She has already seen all of Dexter, Deadwood and Stranger Things and most of my TV time is with her so that is probably why I haven't watched them yet.

We have very similar taste in tv shows, and I'll have to check out a few of the shows you mentioned .
Deadwood was excellent, and I was disappointed when it ended after only three seasons.

I'm on board with you on Soprano's, Breaking Bad, and Curb. I will have to check out Veep, never heard of it.

Mr Inbetween and Aussie show but brilliant about a hitman.

Also a big recommendation for Sopranos. I liked BB ok, but it's not on the same level to me.

I'll have to check out Sopranos. My wife loves Mafia movies so it should be something we'll both like.

I love Curb. I watched it just because of my love for Seinfeld and it is just as good IMO.

I also forget about another show that has been recommended to me by at least 3 people but that I haven't watched: The Office.

#708 20 days ago

Sopranos is great because it shows two sides one Mafia boss the other is father and husband and how he’ll try to discipline his sone because he does something wrong but at the same time he’s guilty of much worse. Also wife who knows about her husband but doesn’t want to *know* or doesn’t approve of but is still willing to live in a mansion paid for by crime and yet is a devout Catholic.

I would agree with Soprano's and Breaking Bad but for me GOT will always be in my top three of all time. Yes season 8 was a disaster but seasons 1-4 is the greatest TV/Movie I have ever seen and the rest of the show was good enough to keep it in the same tier as BB and Soprano's IMO.

Another vote for Deadwood - Al Swearengen (Ian McShane) and... Mr Wu were my favorite characters. But I have yet to watch Deadwood: the movie.

Just started to watch Cardinal, a Canadian crime drama television series. Season 1 is held in Algonquin Bay. I am completely hooked after only two episodes.

Peaky Blinders is awesome.

I really liked the Mandalorian.

Mrs Maisel is so well done beautifully produced that even if its not your type of show, you should give it a try. It is funny as hell at times.

His Dark Materials is dreadfully bad. Worst HBO show ever? Definitely in the running with the Leftovers and John From Cincinnati for that title.

Watchmen is pretty unwatchable too. Ugh is it bad.

The Boys was great.

Season 4 of the Expanse was pretty good. Would be so much better if that fuckin old woman with the gravely voice would just die and go away.

Silicon Valley is a classic. Even the final season was not bad.

Deadwood is a classic, just watched it through again before the movie came out.

Homeland is a great show and worth catching up on before the last season next spring.

Ray Donovan is also a really good show. Not the most cheerful show on earth but very well done look at an effed up family with great acting.

Mr Robot from AMC was also a really well done show with some mind blowing twists.

Luther is a cool British cop show with some fun characters.

Barry is a really funny show with Bill Hader and Henry Winkler. I laugh out loud at every episode.

Sneaky Pete is just ok. Nothing special but not bad either.

Chernobyl was a mini series that everyone should see.

Get Shorty is a funny show from Epix that is not well known, but there are three seasons and it is really well written and produced.

Carnival Row was meh. Somewhat enjoyable but also some really stupid parts.

Stranger Things is a darn good show if not over analyzed. Its good clean spooky fun.

Fleabag was really good. I wasn't sure and the first season was not as good as the second. But it's really short so not too much time commitment.

We clearly have very different tastes. I thoroughly enjoyed His Dark Materials, and I think The Leftovers is one of the best shows in the history of TV.

Wow! Just like pinball; to each their own. I wish I had every second of my life back that I spent on the Leftovers. I only kept watching it because one of my best friends kept saying how great it was despite the ratings. It was his favorite show ever.

#715 17 days ago

The leftovers is godlike. No pun intended.

1st season was good.

2nd had me shaking my head.

3rd season wrapped it up like something that had never been created before.

The woman who lost her whole family. Fascinating.

I need to watch the whole thing again. And that to me is a sign.

After a pretty pedestrian previous series, Doctor Who this year got off to a cracker of a start. Let's hope Chris Chibnall can keep it up.

#717 17 days ago

Just binge-watched The Messiah on Netflix. Very intriguing and kept me hooked to the end. Not for everyone, of course, liked it. What appeared to be an expensive Production.

#718 17 days ago

Yeah, so I crushed the season one of “The Witcher in like two days last week. REALLY WELL DONE!!!

#719 17 days ago

Mandolorian is very good. Overall I would say it's the best series to come out this year.

Star Wars done very well.

It was number one.
Awards are coming. As well as more of the series. It's nice to see more than one thing happening in the Star Wars world.

#720 17 days ago

There is so much good stuff out there. Production values are high on everything.

It's a bit of a magic era for us viewers...

Totally, we get it instant, we get the good stuff, we can be choosy, it’s unreal.

That's why good movies are so few and far between these days compared to even five years ago. The writing and production talent is all in TV shows.

I could take or leave Mando it’s so meh imo. Glad some people like it (helps my Disney stock).

Alright, I've never seen Doctor Who. The idea of picking up the entire series is daunting.. Where should I start? How committed do I need to be to the entire series to make it worth it?

#725 14 days ago

Dracula on the BBC.
Its so bad its good.
Not for the squeamish

If you have a problem with flies dont watch

#726 13 days ago

Has Sherlock BBC on Netflix been mentioned?
The writing and production is stellar.
Excellent cast with Benedict Cumberbatch starring. He played Dr. Strange by the way.
4 seasons completed. Only about 4 episodes per season but each episode is approximately 90 minutes long.
Strong supporting cast as well and filmed in England which is how it should be done.

#727 13 days ago

Just finished watching 4 seasons of Weeds and am sorry to see it over. Theme correlates strongly with pinballers. Had to wait for reruns on cable and recorded them since I don't have Netflix. Season 1 was quite good. Seasons 2 & 3 were great and Season 4 was good. Acting was decent and it had some quirky characters. Now I gotta find some MILF weed.

Watched first 2 seasons of Silicon Valley and love that show. Cancelled HBO thereafter and haven't been able to consistently watch the remaining seasons.

Watched 2 seasons of People of Earth and enjoyed it immensely. Everybody enjoys Aliens and they added a funny twist by defining three distinct species. Wish they'd make some more episodes.

I’ve watched Soprano's, Breaking Bad, Curb your Enthusiasm, Lost, Seinfeld, 2 Seasons of TWD, 2 Seasons of Animal Kingdom, Rick and Morty, Justified, The Office, Good Wife, Northern Exposure, E.R., Thirty Rock, Twin Peaks, Simpsons and West Wing. Don't care for GOT or Stranger Things.

I'll comb through this thread for some ideas of what to try next. I am leaning towards Orange is the New Black, The Dark, Dexter, the Witcher or Mandolorian, but I don't want to pay for anything else and that is my limiting factor right now.

Then skip Mandalorian for now, or plan to watch it all in a month (or trial) and cancel. There's really not anything else worth watching on Disney+ yet.

Netflix has a lot of good stuff. Stranger Things is a must watch, but there's enough to keep most people busy for a long time.

“See” on then Apple platform
“Vikings” is very well done, I’ve watched it from beginning
“The Witcher” is fantastic

Start with the first episode of the 2005 reboot. Once you get into it, you will want to keep binging them. It's a really fun and addictive show.

I guess I like mandolorian freshness in my star wars. It's the same universe but it has new sheen.

Your Disney stock will surely soar.

After googling mando I found this. I guess I'm not the only one who likes it.
It is the most in demand show in the world according to Forbes.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffewing/2019/12/03/data-shows-the-mandalorian-is-tvs-most-in-demand-series-in-the-world/

They bought Star Wars for a reason. So far, this and thier Star Wars lands is the reason I think. Just my opinion. I'm glad for thier success.

Wifey and I watched season 1 of Castle Rock last year.

We just finished crushing season 2, well holy crap was that well done!!!! Very happy with it, and also a fantastic tie in to the movie “Misery”

I have to give Dr. Who a chance. I used to watch it a long long time ago. How many people have played Dr. Who? It’s got to be a lot.

So how much Stephen King do you need to be familiar with for the series to be worth a watch? I know some, but I haven't seen/read the majority of his work.

Randomly started binging The Good Place on Netflix. Super weird... but in a good way. Feels like a cross between Beetlejuice and Groundhog Day right now.

The Good Place is a great show. It's also nice that the seasons are short so you can cruise through them quickly. The second half of the final season is currently airing.

If you watch season 1, a couple movie references come in, like Cujo and other Castle Rock locations.
You will pick off a few things, but I wouldn’t even care if i didn’t know any Stephen King stuff, don’t worry about it

Do you watch this on Hulu? I was hoping it was on Netflix, but it's not.

No, I just pay a guy for 2500+ series and 10,000+ movies of VOD (Video on demand) service that’s freakin’ awesome, its not on the “up and up” like most folks prefer. But I’m perfectly ok with it
