Quoted from MikeS:

Dark is awesome! Finished season 2 last weekend and it is just as good as the first season. Can't wait for the third and final season next Summer!

I had no idea there was a season 2. Season 1 was great. We just started watching episode 1 of Stranger Things season 3. I may stop that and binge watch Dark Season 2 before going back to Stranger Things (hard to keep the story lines separate).

4 episodes in on Stranger Things 3 and it's great. Much more intense than the prior 2 seasons, more horror and adult themes.

I am also 4 episodes in and agree that it is a great season so far. Lot's of action with several different plot lines moving along at a nice pace.

mindhunter started a bit slow but really got good after the first few. looking forward to the second season

We just finished 2nd season, it was better than season 2 we thought... focused on catching the Atlanta child murders|Wayne Williams... acting is very good all the way around.

Been watching, "In the Dark". It seems to be well produced. I'm no prude, but there is plenty of un-needed sex scenes or suggested sex. Other than that it could win an Emmy this year.

Watched it as well, not really that gripping like what I’d prefer would be Silence of the Lambs.

There is a Breaking Bad movie coming to Netflix in October!

For fans of Billie Bob Thornton, a 3rd season of Goliath starts in Oct.

So is anyone else watching "His Dark Materials" on HBO? (This is the trilogy of books which the first volume is what The Golden Compass (2007) Movie was based on).

Saw it, was ok. I mean it's a great vehicle for BBT but the overall story was just ok. But was some good Twin Peaks like moments.

I just finished binge watching Lodge 49. It's a really good show. Too bad it was cancelled after two seasons.

I'm ALL over His Dark Materials, loving it so far. Glad it's HBO, they might let it run it course fully.

Lodge 49 is one of my favorite shows, love the characters, acting, development, all of it. They are pushing REAL hard to get this back on the air, hope it makes it.

It's also a co production between HBO and the BBC so I Imagine it will run its course (24 episodes, 8 for each of the Novels).

Jack Ryan on Amazon Prine

Godfather of Harlem, on Epix. Forrest Whitaker as Bumpy Johnson. With Paul Sorvino, Giancarlo Esposito, Vincent D'Onofrio, Chazz Palminteri, Regina King....gangsters in the '60s.

Just finished 2 series on Showtime, only 7 episodes each and both are fantastic.

Just waiting for the last episode of the season of His Dark Materials to start. Seems like after the third episode the show really found it's pacing. By the sixth episode, it shows what a hot mess The Golden Compass was as a movie, and how much of the story was left out and how much of it was out of order.

#670 4 years ago

I am going to watch dark materials. I thought watchmen was great. Makes me think miracleman by Allan Moore might actually happen. If you liked watchmen you should read miracleman.

I am jazzed about Americas got talent, too.

#671 4 years ago

The Witcher on netflix... jumps around and doesn't explain everything (time jumps not obvious) but is well done.

Does one need to have read the graphic novel to fully appreciate the show? I've read it, but my wife hasn't.

It would help, but the show Is set after so if you fill her in with some details she should be fine.

My son said the same thing. I’ve read the novel, but my memory of it is somewhat vague. My wife has not.

#675 4 years ago

My wife read the novel straight away after finishing the first season.
She says it’s her favourite first season of any show so far.
Lots of really strong female characters.

Yes it would.

I recall the movie being a relatively faithful adaptation. I haven't seen it since the theater, but I've heard the "Director's Cut" is the way to go. There is also a very well done "motion comic" ...

I would say no, overall. It might make someone interested in reading the original, which is a bonus.

#680 4 years ago

For instance my fiancée enjoyed the show mostly and has never read the comic nor ever will.

Just her thing. I have read it multiple times. One person I know liked the movie, then watched the series and liked both.

In my opinion miracleman is better than the original watchmen. Both came out at roughly the same time. By the way at my library there are six copies of watchmen available to read. I mentioned that fact to one of my friends who has never read the comic. What other books do they have six plus of I wonder...

Just watched the first episode of the Watchmen. It was really good. It definitely helps to have someone who can explain to / remind you of what happened in the book.

There is a good podcast after every 3rd episode.

Little House on the Prairie if your looking for a good solid family friendly logos filled show.
One of Micheal Landon's best.

Still my favorite TV show of all time. When I ask people if they can guess what my favorite show is, they can never guess. They always pick Lost or something, but really it is Little House.

Speaking of Lost, however, it is probably my second favorite show. I’m watching it for a third time right now with my daughter, having already watched it once with my wife and then my son. It doesn’t get old, and you pick up more and more with each viewing.

#686 4 years ago

Lost is awesome. I know the plot might’ve got lost near the end but still great TV. I just want to get on a plane with so many attractive people.

I don't watch many TV shows and I will just quit watching a TV series if I am not enamored with it. Also, I make it a rule that I don't watch a TV show unless at least 3 different people recommend it to me. This seriously reduces how many shows I even start but it has rarely failed me. The following shows are the only ones that this has caused me to watch and my opinion of each:

Highly recommend:
Scrubs - one of my favorite shows ever. Great comedy and drama from start to finish. I am also a doctor and it is very medically accurate
Seinfeld - the greatest comedy series ever, IMO. I didn't start watching it until after they quit making new episodes. I am considering watching it again.
Breaking Bad - Simply the greatest series ever made. Plays out like an extended movie more than a TV show. I am currently watching it for a second time and it is awesome all over again.
Game of Thrones - This was ready to unseat Breaking Bad as the greatest show ever until they messed it up with the last season. Still awesome overall. Warning: The first two seasons are not as engrossing as later seasons but going through them is necessary and worth it. The third season is better but the fourth through the seventh is where it is truly great. Season 8 is the worst.
The Boys - Amazon Prime original and only one season completed but it is absolutely incredible. I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you are a superhero/comic fan.

Meh:
Big Bang Theory - I loved it at first but quit a little over halfway through the series as the themes became repetitive. I had it recommended to me as I have a physics degree and love Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons.
Walking Dead - The first couple of episodes were awesome but then I lost interest before the end of the first season and have never returned. I probably won't either.

No:
Sons of Anarchy - started to watch it but quit when my wife confirmed that every character I liked would die. Also, I considered Jace, the main character, to be an anti-hero and didn't like his character at all.

Jury's out:
Stranger Things - I loved the first season but just haven't felt compelled yet to return and watch seasons 2 and 3 yet.
Dexter - my most recommended show ever (5 people) but I haven't started it yet
Deadwood - recommended by 3 people. Haven't started it yet. Of note, I live about 30 miles away from Deadwood and my first job was there.

Another issue is that my stay-at-home wife is a prolific show watcher and has either seen almost every show or cheats and watches them ahead of me if we start one together. She has already seen all of Dexter, Deadwood and Stranger Things and most of my TV time is with her so that is probably why I haven't watched them yet.

Been watching Chernobyl on HBO and it is amazing.

I was able to attend a filming of the episode "little Jerry Seinfeld". It was thanksgiving eve.

It was actually called this.

https://www.google.com/search?q=little+jerry+sienfeld&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari

If you listen at the very end credits there is coughing. I got so sick. I had to walk out several times at the End to not make noise with my coughing.

In the credits you can hear the Coughing. That is unfortunately, me. But there, immortalized none the less!

Peaky Blinders.

And then the UK version of House of Cards....better than the U.S. version.
