I like working in them as much as playing them.

Well, there you go!

One of the prerequisites of owning a pinball machine is knowing you're going to have to fix it every second week. It ain't a tv ....

They have more parts than a Ford Taurus, don't you know.

Yep, Kind of like your Harley.... Will need to be worked on from time to time.... A shit ton of fun when they are working right, and a ton of shit to push home when it doesn't. This feeling will pass.

#11 5 years ago

That's part of the reason I'm selling off my 20 year old players quality routed machines... I had some trouble with them and didn't have time to work on them, so there they sat. I now have 2 newer Sterns -- not that something can't go wrong -- but it's refreshing to have pins I can consistently enjoy and not cringe when I turn them on. You may want to consider selling them and getting a newer machine and just enjoy that one and trade it when you tire of it. Just a thought.

#12 5 years ago

...I think like others are saying though, you can't really be in the hobby and totally expect to avoid issues and repairs. They are all complex machines.

I've been interested in pins since my youth and finally bought one a couple of months ago and quickly added 2 more after that. Sure it can be frustrating/challenging especially as I don't have the skill set to figure out all that goes wrong yet. Just me, but I'm finding I like to work on them about as much as I play. In fact lately i've been working more than playing, hopefully that ends shortly. I guess those of us that stick with it consider it a hobby. If someone just wants to strictly play I guess one is just a gamer.

PM me if you are serious. I just had five neighbors ask me for a pinball. I'm down here in Highlands Ranch.
Sorry to hear your frustrations.

#17 5 years ago

I find it necessary to tinker when I'm playing bad sometimes to save me from throwing the damn things out the window. After a bad game I frequently swap an LED or seven, or fix that mech that needed tightening.

With current remake and Stern LE prices, I'm certain others will be leaving soon as well.

RD, I would be there in a second if it were possible... Some cold beer and your epic collection of pins... Priceless!

Welcome to the wonderful world of pinball ownership.

#24 5 years ago

Arm Chair psychologist here. Some one needs to take their meds. Our someone has taken way to many meds.
Turn off the machines, leave the room. Go back tomorrow look at them again. The pins you have, the oldest is from 1992. It will need repairs and will need to be maintained. Welcome to the hobby. If you have given up. Do not freak out. Sell them! They will sell quite easily,(I would hope).

yuriijos,

Probably best for you to not become an operator of pinball machines out on location around town.

Although you expressed your frustration very well, you may want to edit the f & s words out of the thread title and your 1st post.

Wouldn't want you to have to sit in time-out with 3 non-working pins.

I've bought 3 pieces of cluckin shat and I'm sick of trying to fix these cluckin things. For the price I paid for each of these machines I should be able to enjoy them, but no one cluckin problem after another. Anybody want to buy a JP, JD, or the Getaway. I'm done with pinball.

Fire up the video camera and push them off the roof and post it on the yootoob.
Pinsider's love to watch that.

#30 5 years ago

Could you be any more salty?

Did the seller not warn you or tell you they functioning properly or had problems?

If you he didn't that's one thing...

But come on, learning to fix them is part of the journey, I hate doing it, but I am, because, like anything they'll need to be maintained.

This seems like Deja vu. Like a car accident, I will still look at it.

LOL. Or load them in the back of your truck, but don't tie them down, and turn a corner really fast and watch them fly.

Don't give up yet.
Think how good you will feel when you get it fixed up working, shine up the playfield, and get it dialed in.

Seriously relax you are new to the hobby and it sounds like you bought what we in the hobby affectionately call "Polished Turds".
A few hundred dollars in tools and a few of those little 300 dollar boxes from Marco and a dash of Pinwiki and you will soon be a seasoned hobbyist.
Don't give up so soon, you have just paid your tuition for Pinball 101 and the journey is the adventure... or the adventure is the journey or something like that, I always screw that one up.

That beer is bigger then your head. That's a crazy big mug. It reminds me of the old Foster's commercials.
