Clear coated Fremen’s prototype plane with semi-gloss. Did the nazi flag on it. Made the stickers myself. Next is the installation of his light board, motor and propeller and out she goes!

Needless to say, each plane will have something different from the other planes I make.

Fremen’s fighter plane is ready for take off! Fitted with higher rated resistor and light board. Now I must figure out how to safely ship this plane. Many hours of work went into this!

Biplane beginning to take shape, lots more to follow

I’ve been working and perfecting the letter decals for the plane. These are not ink jet stickers, these were cut on my decal machine and I’ve been carefully transfering them onto the white background stickers, trying to replicate the movie biplane as much as possible. I also transferred the letters onto a reflective background to give it a cool effect during the game. The reflective one is just a sample so you can see the difference. I think it will give it a super cool efffect during the game with all the lights flashing.

New LED harness... bigger and brighter !!! Also has mounting sockets !!! I’m pretty satisfied with it! The larger LEDs are WAY better.

I’ll be mailing this and the previous one to KornFreak28 this week for him to experiment with.

Damn! Those look amazing! Great job! Yeah ship them over and I’ll see what’s the best way to incorporate them to the fighter plane.

If those sockets can somehow be glued or attached to the wing, I really think we have a winner here!

All of these pictures look amazing; you're really going above and beyond on this project!

Thanks for the kind words! Sure will! Once we test Ricochet’s awesome light harness then we can start rolling these out.

I’ve already started gutting and painting the fighter planes I have available. I’ll be contacting you very soon to arrange shipping of your original biplane if you wish to go that route.

Haven't heard a thing but patiently waiting to send my plane in on request! Can also make a payment at any time to show my commitment. Excited over these planes! Nice job!

No worries, I’ll be in touch very soon. We just need to test Ricochet’s LED light harness. As soon as that becomes an available option, then you can decide whether to ship you original light board or just go with the new LED harness.

Don’t worry, your word is your commitment. What I’ll probably do is have all the people on the list ship their biplanes over, so I can start working on them at the same time and get them out fast. Already started working on all the fighter planes. I’ll let you know when it’s time to make payment. Thanks!

In my opinion the gun fire from the fighter plane ist wrong, because the original plane fires through the propeller and the guns (two MG17 with 7,92 Full Metal Jacket)) are near by each other.
That's the reason why I keep the fighter plane as it is without modification instead of the decals.
In the movie they use a Pilatus-P2 that's quit similar to the original STUKA, but not in that detail!
The STUKA was also the wrong plane and never used in WW2 in this design. That plane was manufactured by Junkers.
The correct plane is the Messerschmitt BF 109 and this one fires through the propeller.
Only later versions of the model C used to have the gunfire in the wings but that model doesn't fit to the movies time period.
Unfortunately in 1989 there was no BF 109 available to make the scenes in the movie, so they decided to use the Pilatus-P2 because a JU 87 in good technical condition was also rare to find and to dangerous to fly.

Thanks for that information which is all true. Believe me, I searched for the Pilatus P-2 in the correct scale countless times with no luck. This is a cost-effective plane that IMO looks great and it’s easy to work with. At the end of the day, this is going into a game, not a museum

You are right. But his plane is 100x better than factory plane, and about 1000x better than those repro crap available nowadays.

Well the time has come to ship your biplane or to buy a new one and ship it to me. I need for you guys to advise me via PM if you are going to drill out your fighter plane board or decided to wait and see if Ricochet's harness is going to fit or not. If you are going to drill out your fighter plane board please let me know. I don't see the point in you waiting any longer. Thanks!

Another fighter plane painted and cleared. On this one, I went with the yellow tip on the nose and yellow on the prop blade tips. All she needs now is the motor

Am I posting too many updates? Sometimes I feel like I am. Only 3 people responded via PM yesterday

Post it here, I guess the plane is IJ related. Or better to see a dying IJ thread about general problems only? I don't think so. I still have an ability to scroll down and skip posts in case the topic is not interesting to me. Not a big deal, I can do it with one finger.

#3440 5 years ago
Quoted from KornFreak28:

There's just a ton of information on pinside and general nonsense threads.
Please post anything about Indy here.
Sometimes good ideas get lost and forgotten.
Your planes are worth sharing,
My scroll finger also does not have a callus yet.

#3441 5 years ago

Thank you both Davi and Eric! I just felt like I was clogging the thread with my plane posts but feels good to know you guys don't mind. Yeah, I also figured the IJ thread had been too quiet lately....It needed a boost! Last night, I was this close to making a new thread for the planes...I was going to name it "Indiana Jones plane rescue service" But I figured I would probably just be talking to myself in it. I think it's best to just keep posting here from time to time.

BTW, Ricochet's harness arrives today! I should be able to fit test it tonight.....Can't wait!

Ricochet’s LED harnesses are here! They look SUPER promising! I’ll be back later with the results!

85915B51-5641-4DD1-A113-A92D8AD6B982 (resized).jpeg85915B51-5641-4DD1-A113-A92D8AD6B982 (resized).jpeg

For those interested, The results are in! Looks like Ricochet’s LED harness has opened a lot of options for those of you not wanting to drill out your light board. Pending some extra gutting of the wings and a bit of extra work, I give this harness the green light.

There are 2 options well maybe 4 options here. All options involve me modifying the wings in some way to accomodate the harness.

The first option is to make cutouts where the LED sockets go and install the underside of the plane To hold the sockets and wires in place ( I never used it with the previous planes because it’s not necessary, it’s never seen and it gets in the way of the original light board) I also have to modify the underside to accomodate the LED sockets, paint and clear it. I used this black plane to show you what I’m talking about.

The second option is the following: I make modifications to the wings and glue the LED sockets to them. We bypass the underside completely and I run the cables through the plane. You can choose to have the LED socket stick out a bit (see picture) or you can go the low-profile way and have the sockets hidden under the wing.

Obviously, the cables will be “exposed” if you will, under the wing because there will be no underside to cover them but in reality you will never see them when playing the game. I’ll glue and hide them as much as I can.

Both are great options in my opinion. One adds the underside, the other doesn’t. You can go low profile or high profile with the leds.

If you choose any of these options instead of shipping your light board, there will have to be an extra charge of $10 (for the fighter plane only) on my part for the extra work, gutting, paint and clear.

Also, If you wish to go this route, you will have to get in touch with Ricochet and arrange for him to make you a harness and then have him ship that harness to me so I can fit it in your plane.

I don’t know how much Ricochet is going to charge for the harness, so you must get in touch with him and ask. Or maybe he can post here and let us know.

I need to hear from you. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Cool... yeah my thought was just to glue the flat spot to the underside of the wing... run the wires wherever you want. You can also just pop those sockets off and ditch them altogether and have the LEDs sticking out the edge of the wing (if you are putting the wires in the plane). They are friction fit.

When this is finalized, PM me if you want me to make one for you. I will be doing them all at once, for one shipment to KornFreak28. At the moment I have enough to make 7. Not sure how many folks are committed to this... but I can always get more.

Yeah glueing them would be more practical, that’s for sure. Great job on the harness Ricochet! We still have to iron out some minor details I need for you to address for the final harness version. I’ll be in touch later tonight or tomorrow as I’m on my way to the gym

Btw, the last picture shows the wings roughly gutted to make room for the LEDs

Again guys, the underside never gets seen. But it is an option

I think I'm with Ricochet on this one; it sounds way easier to just glue the leds and the harness to the bottom of the plane. If there's ever an issue with the harness (god forbid), you can (availability willing) replace it, as it's external; just need some new glue! It also keeps the plane all in one piece, without any time-consuming modifications.

Those last few pictures look really cool!
