Have you tried the new LEDs that look like incandescents yet?
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bally-the-addams-family-club-tafmembers-fans-welcome/page/104#post-7178071
They look very nice and not too harsh to look at.
Some people are putting them in the TAF electric chair with very good results.
I havent bought any yet, but I can think of tons of uses.

I bought these for my Addams, and they’re awesome! I got them for the Electric chair, thing and Greed lights. Very happy with them, and posted pictures in the TAF club. I thought for Indy, they might help with the hot spots on the backglass. Light just doesn’t feel even back there…

Speaker grilles are upside down. That's gotta knock at least 10k off the price.

It’s a nice looking IJ, but that black trimmed IJ that HEP did recently was awesome.

Looks like a nice Indy, but I would take off those awful plastic leg "protectors" before they destroy your decals.

#10008 1 year ago

Beautiful Indy and may you get as much as the market commands.

#10009 1 year ago

Wow, if that IJ goes for $22k then I wonder what would a true prototype would go for these days?

Fellow Indy fans,

Created a problem here coverting my IJ to LED. Was stupid enough to swap the bulbs with power on and most likely created a short, burning the U3 LM339 on the 10 opt board. Fuse 116 also burned losing 12V.

Got 12V back after installing a new 116. Swapped the 10 opto board with a new Pindora box 10 opto. But no luck...

At startup i get row 1 stuck to GND and in the switch i see row 1 and 3 closed. This disapears after removeing the J206/207 and J209/209 from the MPU. A MPU test with a wire shows a good matrix, so in my opinion, not a MPU problem.

No obvious grounds/shorts at the row1-3 switch under the playfield...

Idol test fails, MPF test passes.

Kind of stuck in diagnostics here, who can guide me on my path of adventure?

Help is apreciated!

Update: swappend the MPU and still same problem. So the MPU can be excluded!
Updat2: It dissapears when i unplug the A13901 Opto Ramp Board...

Might that be the trouble?

I'd say the LM339 on the A-13901-2 board has failed

Exactly my guess! Replaced the LM339 and BINGO! Works like a charm here.....

Quest completed!

Thank you for the input!

Hey, I might reach out to you, I think the same thing happened on mine when doing LEDs and I haven’t figured it out. Hoping this works!

Would you believe I’ve been in this 6 years and had probably 30 machines and never heard this before it happened on this Indy? I guess it’s better to learn late than never huh?

Good advice. Although I did a lot of previous repairs without any problems. Now I used a metal, unisolated, screwdriver. Shorted a coil with a opto wire under the Idol. Happend fast, but did a lot of burning damage to the Opto boards...

Would have saved me a lot of time (and a fuse and 4 LM339s) if I had turned off the power....

Yes for sure over the years I have had small shocks touching things under a PF with the power on so I always shut the power off now lol

good advice.
i'm an idiot and do replace bulbs/leds with power on each time... i need to stop doing this.

Anyone replaced there single drop mech with the one from Marco? I did a couple years ago and it has worked great until now. Now during startup it is making this horrible noise like it can pop back up. I’m wondering if I need to tighten the spring for the return or maybe it’s something else? Any suggestions are appreciated.

I haven't heard that, but I suggest you first compare the mech to the 3 bank drop target mech from under the PF to see if there are any obvious differences. Check over the bottom of the machine for a random screw or broken piece of sorts.

If nothing obvious, it may be best to remove it and service it, and with that you will probably find the issue.

With the drop target in the up position, raise the PF and manually slide the coil plunger and lifter up and down - does the plunger slide smoothly? If not can you see where it's binding - possibly the coil sleeve needs replacing. If the plunger slides smoothly, the next thing to do is to manually drop the target (just push the top of the target towards the back of the PF, this will push it off the little ledge that holds it up and the spring will pull the target down), it should snap down. Then try manually pushing the target up and see if you can feel drag - a little is expected but it should easily slide up and down. They can get bound up with grit & dust, and simply needs to be disassembled cleaned and put back together - the easiest way is to remove the mech and do this on a workbench (you should replace the coil sleeve while you have it out and also look for any wear or broken components, otherwise a quick clean and reassemble). Take note of the placement of washers and springs when removing the target from the mech, the manual shows the placement of the parts but photos can help if you need

So I am finally getting around to putting LEDs in my good old IJ after almost 20 years in my possession. Shameful, to say the least! I searched the forum and I'm sure someone has asked this previously, but any tips or tricks on how to tear down the playfield (I know the Path of Adventure is tricky, for starters) for a bulb replacement and a good waxing at the same time? Appreciate any and all comments. Thanks much!

If just putting LEDs in, don’t do it from the top. It’s way easier to unscrew the lights below, replace and screw back in.

I've searched this thread and a few others but found limited/dated info. I am looking for an update on the current environment for "quality" replacement cab decals (only need the cab). Feels like none are available but just wanted to validate my research. The only name of the game for decent looking cab art appears to be the Rad Cals. I've done 10 or so cabs the old fashion way and that is what I prefer but am open to other/new things. Now that the radcals have been out for a few years, what's the consensus on quality/longevity/etc.? Any drawbacks? I do wish that they went all the way to the top of the cabinet. It would be nice if he offered that as an option. Any good regular decals still floating around anywhere?
