I'm rebuilding the right flipper on my IJ. I was losing power on rf shots. Upon disassembling I noticed the coil was really hot and the previous owner had the coil mounted backwards.

Can someone post a picture of the rf wiring? I don't trust that the current wiring is correct.

Could the hot coil be due to it being installed backwards?

If it works, it is wired right. You'd blow stuff up if it wasn't.

Installed backwards isn't the problem, but turn it around to make the diodes last longer before the break off from vibration.

Assuming no binding on the plunger assembly, and the flipper moves freely. I'd clean your flipper button opto boards for a start.

I rebuilt the flipper, reversed the coil and cleaned the optos. The plunger moves freely and the flipper works better than ever (coil sleeve was a little snug when switching out). The coil continues to run hot.....after a game I feel the coil and plunger and they are hot to the touch; left flipper coil is cool. EOS switch is new and makes good contact.

Is this a sign that the coil is going out? Should I go ahead and replace the coil? I assume a hot coil is going to cause problems at some point. So I'd like to fix it before it gets to that point.
