Dave, it's probably just a matter of time at this point:

    Quoted from rotordave:

I can TOTALLY see competitive pinball on ESPN.
look at all the other shit they have which isn't as good ...
    poker!!
    Darts
    Billiards
    9 ball
    Baseball (haha couldn't resist ...)
The IFPA final came down to the last ball on the 9th game. Could have gone either way.
    That's great tv ....
All PAPA or IFPA need is Budweiser or Miller to come along with some sponsorship and it will be on ESPN.

You may as well watch live Lotto draws lol

I know you like the cards Richo, not my bag I guess.

Although me and Dave Sell did spend a few days playing blackjack at the casino once ... But it was mainly for the beer ...

Both have been banned in the US as they thought they were gambling
    Both are games of skill

Many say the same thing about competitive pinball

    Different strokes for different folks.
    Whatever tickles your fancy.

Maybe if competitive pinball can figure out what it is that got competitive poker to the lime light/sponsorships, then it will also get some notoriety.

    Brewery sponsorship champ

    Or CocaCola! Or Pepsi!

Shame I don't live in the USA or I could dedicate my life to making it happen.

    And happen it would.

Statistically Blackjack is the only game that a player has better odds than the house.

Billion dollar casinos don't pay for themselves ....

That's why I gamble my money on property. Guaranteed win!!

As RGR has seen in Pukekohe when he's been there ...

    Gambling?

    #62 6 years ago

so maybe competitive pinball needs to develop a system where players 'gamble' as they play

In very large part due to online poker.

    Online pinball?

    #65 6 years ago

Well I am sure alot more people would be playing it if they got exposure... Sure not as many as poker but poker was like 2% what is today... Only because of TV coverage and the internet was it successful due to people being exposed to it, and in turn understanding how to play it. Now online poker is banned in the states yet there are still thousands of player participating in the WSOP which is happening right now. I think alot more people would be playing pinball if they knew it was a game of skill, how to play etc... PAPA TV will help, as has pinball arcade...

Poker is played against the other players, not the house. The house makes its money by raking a portion of the pot, so being better than the other players one can make money.

There's a reason you see the same people year after year at the WSOP

Lol think Dave might have been joking or that hes referring to counting cards which is profitable.. BJ is like 0.8 to 1.1% house edge... Craps at true odds and Baccarat are the best for the player in terms of house edge games but nothing beats poker...

    #68 6 years ago

I've heard that Craps can be played at an advantage with dice control.

    Or mind control ....

"Those are not the numbers you are seeing"

"Those are not the numbers I am seeing"

    "You are seeing 7"

    "I am seeing 7"

I really dislike discussions on this topic.
But I cannot get enough of watching gameplay top down videos.

Last year someone linked the pinballnews feed. They also had some walkthrough rules videos.

WPC now should stand for World Pinball Circuit

literally like WPT with every sitting around a small table looking up at the big screens and ooo and ahhing when it tells them too.

I would watch that over most programming. But it might stale over time.

    #71 6 years ago

I think its interesting that we see this exact same conversion about pretty much every type of game that can be played either casually or competitively, whether it be pinball, poker, video games, golf, bowling, or whatever.

It always seems like the competitive players and casual players are always debating why their perspective makes more sense.

Yeah sure, but thats ultra hard and can be picked up on easier than counting cards...

    #73 6 years ago

I agree that it's very hard to control the dice. I don't agree that counting is harder to pick up on (superstitious craps players are always arranging the dice in a certain way before throwing them).
