You might be surprised at the numbers you get, even if it starts small.
Here in Vermont, we had zero real location pinball and just a couple competitive players before a couple years ago. We now routinely get between 30 and 50 people in the leagues that we run.
Not only am I fine with the $100 taken out of my state's prize pool regardless of whether our winner or runner up attends, I'd seriously like to propose an extra $2 per player in future years be collected and sent to Karl to offset his expenses for running the broadcast.

I've heard this from multiple people over the last few weeks. The change you're thinking of applies only to tournaments with qualifying in multiple states. (Not leagues)
