Not to put the cart before the horse, but if players aren't necessarily in it for the cash, then they HAVE to be in it for the points. I don't think anyone is playing just for the thrill of competition?

I am basically saying, I wouldn't want to be given the option to "play for charity!" or "play for points!".

This conversation has taken a turn for the fascinating! I went from thinking Whysnow was yelling at clouds to feeling like the guy has a point.

I am a little concerned with how IFPA seems to be acting like "well, we've done the research" (along with the snide, belittling of their userbase both here and on other, shittier pinball forums) when it's clear that they didn't really do ALL the research if Whysnow and many other TDs were left out of said "research".

I dunno. Weird. Should be interesting, seeing how this all unfolds.

Do check out Fremont Arcade Downtown and Flipperspiel (check their blog for times and location), they're worth the trip for sure. And if you're a video game person at all, if you visit the PHoF, look next door at what I think is called "Gamers Paradise". They have the most jaw dropping selection of older stuff, hardware and software, that is definitely worth a browse.

I honestly do commend you for taking a new approach to things. But I'm also a little concerned about how this is seeming to reward the best of the best and not many else, and I don't know if that's the direction a burgeoning population such as the pinball scene needs right now.

But I'm also not the one calling the shots - you are. Godspeed to you!

I don't think passionately discussing something that's opposite of your opinIon needs to be phrased as "whining", does it?

I don't have a lot of tournaments on my IFPA profile but the ones I do have were NOT free to get into.

Perhaps this is the statement that chaffs me the most. A dollar might be a pittance to you, whereas it's a struggle for me to put 100 pennies together. So now it becomes more of a "haves" vs. "have nots" type of thing, which I don't think will do much to grow the pinball userbase.

I don't have a problem with paying $1 per IFPA tourney I participate in.

I have a problem with the way it was announced (on April Fools?)

I have a problem with the way it was communicated to certain factions (seems WI was caught completely unaware)

I have a problem with the amount of nepotism going on (my dad saved Pinball! My brother is a pinball pro! We know better than you do!!)

I have a problem with the happy-go-lucky way this was announced

I have a problem with the sycophants who just can't believe the IFPA can do no wrong
