Devil’s advocate here, there are only ONE of each of those. It’s still nuts but wouldn’t it be cool to have Cap’s WWII costume!

#3 5 years ago

Who liked the movie Armageddon THAT much?!?!?!

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Devil’s advocate here, there are only ONE of each of those.

There is rarely ever *just* one. There are usually several made for use during filming and production--sometimes upwards of a dozen or more made, depending on the item/costume. This is in case they get damaged, or for different types of scenes, for stunt doubles, etc. Then there are also hero costumes/props and rubber stunt costumes/props.

I was just reading about the Indiana Jones temple idol, and there were actually 14 of those made.

The Indiana Jones fedora would make a great Williams IJ topper!

Ok, yes you are right - generally costumes there are several, but for hero props there are very infrequently a whole bunch. Background stuff, who knows. I really was just trying to point out they aren’t going around in lots of hundreds or thousands like many pins are

Real movie props to seem MUCH less crazy than Pinball collectors.

I mean you can have actual highlander sword that Clancey Brown may have used for the Price of a Batman 66 or DI CE?

Seems legit actually.

At least a pin can give you and your friends hours of entertainment.

#10 5 years ago

Those prices don't surprise me.
People collect what they can afford.
We pinheads are very lucky, some people can barely put food on the table and pay rent.

#11 5 years ago

My Arrested Development stuff isn't in the same league as the above, but I sometimes wonder what the Aztec Tomb would go for....

#13 5 years ago

Ha! I thought of airplane propellers also when I saw the thread title.

#14 5 years ago

There were for sure either multiple IJ fedora's or something. The ribbon/band on the hat does not seem to match the movie stills. If anyone was thinking of spending 400 g's on it, I'd recommend not doing it.

#15 5 years ago

Shiwan Khan's Face Mask from the shadow:
https://propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/138/lot/28566

Bidding went up to £900 ($1,192.92), but looks like didn't hit the reserve.

That could've made an interesting topper

Insane prices, but if money was no issue some would make cool props for a home theater. I mean, how cool would it be to have Indiana Jones' fedora, gun, and whip? Though...

Heh, well, I've had my eye on several items hoping to pick up at least one, but considering the prices so far, that probably won't happen today.

Remember when all the pin prices skyrocketed and we call them crazy... And now we're paying even more than then?

Honestly, I thought you were talking about plane propellers when I read the thread title. Then I clicked on it and realized wrong prop. My friend sells airplane propellers and people pay more money for those than I could fathom spending: https://www.aviationart.com/collections/airplane-propellers-blades . Whatever floats your boat though. I totally get the movie props because they have super mass appeal with movie watchers vs the niche hobby of pinball where there are people who have never played it vs people who haven't seen a movie.

Yeah I remember years ago there was a show where people made/sold custom airplane prop/part furniture...damn that shit was pricey.

Collecting anything, just so that you can have a bunch of stuff to point at and say 'look at the stuff that I have' is a mental illness.

Nothing any collectors do is shocking, since they're all crazy.

The original stormtrooper helmet went up to £37,500 but didn't hit the reserve. It was damaged, missing parts, and was repainted. I've seen others go much, much higher when in good condition.

This right here. I had a very large and expensive collection of Star Trek trading cards from the 70s. I realized I was the only one who would ever enjoy them, and they weren't even on display. I sold them all and put 3 Star Trek pins in the basement instead so I can enjoy them with other people when they come over. I did keep some of the autographs and unique cards though.

I promise it's the last time I'll mention it, but I just bought Dio's couch.

But hey, I need a couch. Really!

That Terminator jacket is AWESOME. If I bought that it would be my halloween costume every single year. I had no interest in the Dio clothes because his stuff is probably too small for me to use as a scarf.

Don't forget to add a 25% buyers premium, plus taxes, plus shipping to all of this stuff.

#45 5 years ago

WTF is the couch marked down because it was Dio's or something? I'd expect to pay 5-700 for a nice couch like that anyway.
Even with Premium+ that ain't bad.

#46 5 years ago

Well, the auction is done. There were several other interesting items (wolverine's claws, constintine movie props, stargate tv props/costumes, van helsing movie weapons) but most didn't fetch incredibly surprising prices, given what other things were going for at the auction.

Superman fortress crystal: £11,000 ($14,598.65)
https://propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/138/lot/28698/

Ra's mask from stargate: £9000 ($11,944.35)
https://propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/138/lot/28680/

Stargate universe spacesuit: £3000 ($3,981.45)
https://propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/138/lot/28689/

Thor anamatronic puppet (stargate): £5500 ($7,299.33), didn't meet reserve
https://propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/138/lot/28688/

Van helsing hero grappling gun: £10,000 ($13,271.50)
https://propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/138/lot/28753/

Freddy Krueger mask: £4500 ($5,971.99)
https://propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/138/lot/28759/

Wolverine's stunt claws: £4750 ($6,303.77)
https://propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/138/lot/28777/

Most of the “estimated prices” were a fraction of what the hammer cost was. They do this on purpose to encourage bidding. I’m happy to say I got the couch for $500, which is the only reason I bid. I came in super late and missed most of the items. All in with fees $680 but I’m still working on shipping.

Heh, well, I want to make sure everything with the purchase goes through ok first. The Prop Store said invoices would go out within 24 hours of the auction's end. So, once that happens, I'll share

I may be listing a few pin items for sale, and maybe a project game or two soon to help recoup some of the cost.
