    Quoted from toddsvec:

Actually, I'd love to hear some input from the Pinside group on that.

I looked at Amazon before choosing to use Paypal for my daughterboard sales. Can't find my notes, but as I remember it seemed like a viable option as well (but no less pricey). It is also possible to build a credit card storefront through my web provider (hostgator) but I envisioned nothing but problems if I was asking folks to put credit card numbers into my website. People trust Paypal; I decided it was best to use what people trust.

And, it's working out fine for what I'm selling - $28 items really don't attract the scammers. Heck, I even did a couple of paypal transactions in-person at the Allentown show... mostly the shows are cash and carry though.

Appreciate you calling the fine print to our attention.

One of my items is $415, and I have a dozen more that are $$200 on up

I wonder if you could stick sand in their gears by setting a MAXIMUM transaction amount. If your maximum were $150, the $200 stuff would require two transactions and the $415 would require three... perhaps trying to scam a multi-transaction payment would come off as too challenging for the little gain and the "bad guy" would just move on.

Customers would think it was weird but they might tolerate it... especially if you clearly spelled out why you were doing it.

The news of the day is that eBay and Paypal are going to split into separate companies next summer. It probably won't help this "fine print" problem but it could open the door for alternate auction payment systems... but the business obstacles for a competitor are tremendous - Paypal claims 143 Milion active accounts in the news release about the spinoff.

And today I read on Macrumors (http://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/30/apple-paypal-deal-soured/) that Apple pay and Paypal are at odds since Paypal unexpectedly inked a deal with Samsung while negotiating with Apple. Apple's no savior, but they have deep enough pockets to take on the "tremendous" obstacles I referenced.

I still think it's a decent idea for the pinside community to find a new service to (unofficially) endorse over ebay.

I nominate Mr Pinball classifieds as a choice. But that doesn't address the payment side...
