I thought it would be interesting to do a thread / poll to see how much serious interest is out there for this theme. The return of the horror theme worked perfect for Stern with TWD. I think Evil Dead / Army of Darkness pinball would be another slam dunk success and really hope they look into the licence. Custom call outs by Bruce Campbell, Zombie Yeti art etc. has potential to be epic. I can not imagine a theme that would excite me more than this. What are your thoughts??

Only if every time you plunge the ball, the callout is "THIS is my boomstick!"

    #3 7 years ago

Love the theme but probably wouldn't buy one if it had a lame ass mono color DMD. It would be great if Stern would move into the 21st century on this part.

    #4 7 years ago

I would def hold out for the Phantasm pin....

    #5 7 years ago

Naw, man...but "ASH vs The Evil Dead"...you might have something there.

    #6 7 years ago

    No.

    #7 7 years ago

Nope ... I'm waiting for Stern to have an original idea.

    #8 7 years ago

You may be waiting a long time...

    #9 7 years ago

Alright you Primitive Pinheads, listen up!
Now I swear the next one of you primates even touches me . . .
    Gimme some sugar baby!
    Hail to the king, baby.
    Well hello Mister Fancypants.
Oh that's just what we call pillow talk, baby, that's all.

Would be a great theme. The callouts would be fun if the player "played as" the army of the dead against Ash so the quotes were directed at you.

    #10 7 years ago

    NO!!!

    #11 7 years ago

My wife said no so I gues that means maybe.

    #12 7 years ago

Getting the rights for Army of Darkness would be tricky but Evil Dead would work and most likely tie in with Ash vs Evil Dead. Great tv series and great series in general so yes, I would.

    #13 7 years ago

Id be interested......but not gonna happen....

    #14 7 years ago

This is a slam dunk financial success for Stern. Made for pinball
Funny. Horror. Call-outs. Big cult following by pin-nerds

    Yes absolutely.

    #16 7 years ago

Gosh, that would be an amazing theme. I'd be in. I'd like it to be based on the movies and the new show.

Ash Vs. Evil Dead is awesome.

    #17 7 years ago

I would totally be in for one.

    I'm thinking animated TOPPER!!!

    #19 7 years ago

Yes, absolutely. One of a small number of themes that i would be 100% in on without hesitation. Unfortunately, like all of my dream themes (except for Alien), its unlikely to ever actually be made.

Agreed though that if they did ever do this, they should really bring in the show as well as the movies.

    #20 7 years ago

    GROOVY!

    #21 7 years ago

    This was already fantastic!

This would probably be my #1 theme choice of all time. I saw Evil Dead 2 shortly after it was released and I have been hooked ever since. It almost single-handedly inspired me to dive into the world of horror movies as a kid and I am still at it. Most people who know me still think of me as 'the horror guy'.

I know Spooky/Ben Heck had looked into the licensing a while back and stated that it was prohibitively expensive for their small operation. I would love to see any manufacturer take this on, but it will probably never happen. Then again, I thought the same thing about Ghostbusters...

    #23 7 years ago

I love army of darkness but did not care much for evil dead 1 or 2. Also I do not mind the new TV series but my GF who is a huge Bruce fan does not like it. Just consideration the fan base might shift on this title do to new shows IMO.

If done right I love the theme. Unsure if I could shake the collection enough to purchase it though. Time would tell.
I suspect the answer is yes of course I would since I was speaking with GAP when he had that home brew army of darkness up for sale last time.

Where's the option for "That sounds cool, but I got priced out of this damn hobby years ago" ?

That's debatable since Stern didn't create this game and is manufacturing it under licence from Whizbang Pinball LLC.

    #27 7 years ago

I just couldn't wait. But i am still in for a "proper" Evil Dead pinball.

    Stern created 90% of it.

The ones I saw at the shows that Dennis Nordman had made were EM pins converted from Gottlieb's Continental Cafe.

Stern took that idea, turned it into a Stern SPIKE system, added a LCD display, wrote new software, added electronic score reels, licensed real music for it, got rid of the Gobble Hole in the center of the playfield.....

    A far cry from this:

    Uhhhh yes please!

So much good content here, if not implemented, pinball browser would work.

Atttact mode sound: Gimme some sugar, baby.

If a ball sits in the shooter lane for a period of time: Yo, she-b*tch. Lets go!

Ball save: Welcome back to the land of the living.

Start of MB: Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick!

Replay: Hail to the King! or Groovy!

    #31 7 years ago

Ghostbusters and Evil dead are my 2 dream themes. Ghostbusters came true, now I'm hoping for the other. Hail to the king, baby!

    #32 7 years ago

I was just talking about this theme! I'd buy if it was amazingly crap-tastic. The call outs would be amazing. Maybe there would even be a bonus Bubba Ho-Tep mode.

    #33 7 years ago
    Quoted from Pin_Guy:

Stern did have plenty of original design ideas since 1999, not everything was a licensed theme.
Many people here were not involved in the hobby at that period.

Striker Xtreme (before reuse in NFL licensed themes)
    Sharkey's Shootout
    High Roller Casino
Grand Prix (before conversion to the Nascar theme)

They had even more ideas on the drawing board, but had to shift gears backwards.

The reason new creative ideas partial stopped is similar to what has happened to the film industry.
People as less willing to take chances on non-recognized brands and based on the pinball industry during the mid 2000s, it was a wise move.
You cannot make money, if pinball was not recognizable.
Stern is not stupid in how they market their choices, and is part of the reason they survived the drought.
If the "revival" continues the concept will return, most likely with Pat Lawlor.

    #34 7 years ago

I liked Army of Darkness but its all about Evil Dead 2 for me, as long as all the films are represented and while humour is an important factor in those films so is gore and horror, put all factors in and it would be a great pin, Book of Dead LE please.

Thanks. If she ever gets built it's going to be another couple of years yet at least. It's open sourced, so there's not really much stopping anyone building their own version if they wanted to take on a mission. That is for the SkeletonProc but currently building a .Net version of the game.

Ash vs. Evil Dead Season 2 confirmed to start in September 2016. If this theme ever does see the light of day, now would be the perfect time.

I would be in for one. I have even seen El Hefe here in town twice now (his permanent residence is one town over).....maybe I could get him to autograph it.

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 is starting 10/2/16 on STARZ. Season one was awesome, can't wait for this!

    #43 7 years ago

Great theme, and I love the movies. The show was just okay. The humor seemed forced, and the tone was off. Still entertaining, though.

I love Ash because he's an idiot. He's not a philanthropist or a decent person. He's a selfish moron. My favorite part of the new show was when, out of nowhere, he called Pablo 'Pedro' and kind of said, 'Oh yeah, sorry.'

Anyway, an Evil Dead game would be awesome.

I like Evil Dead 2 the best but AofD was pretty good as well, incorporate both and leave the new show out of it for me, the only fear would be Stern ruining it with trying to be funny instead of keeping to strictly movie quotes (TWD hillbilly and so many others). I`m in for a Pre.

Just saw this pic posted in the Iron Maiden thread. Keith wearing an S-Mart shirt.

I know it doesn't mean an ED/AOD pin is in the works just because he's wearing the shirt, but it's cool to know he's a fan.

Is hope alive for Evil Dead?

I have a sneaking suspicion that spooky/ben/CGC may do a evil dead..... Wasn't that the license ben heck wanted to do before he left spooky to do his own thing....and now he is back hanging out with them?

    #49 3 years ago

100% still in on this if it ever happens.

    Heck yes! Done deal.
