I just priced a TWD pro at the only distributor in Canada $7678 + shipping which makes it close to $7798.35 = Insanity Now just for fun the new GOT topper is $819 dollars excluding shipping or brokerage fees = pure insanity I think the only place the topper is logical is for operators wanting to give the game even more attention.

$4500 seems very low for a nib in the US. If that is even true, you are comparing a rock bottom price, probably lower than just about anyone pays.
Let's say you can get a Got Pro delivered to a Buffalo depot for $4800 US.
$4800 x 1.4 for currency = $6720 + 13% HST = $7593. And you have to go pick it up in the US, travel and deal with the border. According to Flashinstinct's price, for $100 you can get it in Toronto.
All I'm getting at is we're not exactly getting ripped off. People are blaming Stern or Playdium for the Cannuck dollar being in the toilet when that has to do with Oil being $30 a barrel. Blame Opec for your pinball troubles if you want to get upset.
I agree somewhat with what Frolic is saying. True you can get the game at roughly the same price after conversion in Canada. I could turn it around and say it's Sterns fault. They have been upping the price for the last 5 years without adding much value. The new Spike systems removed a lot of heavy components as did the BOM. Stuff like service rails, lockdown bar, heavy power supply, metal apron, wiring have been reduced in size or replace with lighter materials. When you start adding these up the machine itself weights less than it used to which in turn saves them on freight. So instead of keeping the price the same and save on their manufacturing costs to make a bigger profit, they've done both. They are saving on one end and increasing their price on the other end.
Now I am all for making money and business is business after all. But they did these things while the dollar was good. Now that the dollar is bad that $1K price hike in the past 5 years is now a $2K price hike here and don't even get me started on the Prem/LE. Some of us have the disposable income to pay for such things but I will assume most don't. I just sum it up to shooting yourself in the foot and realizing it's bleeding 5 years later. At this point i think it's hemorrhaging because I see only a few select people buying NIB and I rarely see anyone going in the states anymore to go pick up games. The vast majority of people are not buying and don't want to sell because then they have to shell out even more cash to pay for the other game.
Welcome to the subprime era of pinball in Canada at least anyway.

Pinball like any other hobby or activity. It's as expensive as you want it to be.

That was in september / open box / the game that got played 1000s of time at the show. now you can add another $1K to the price.
