Finished populating the playfield. All the rusty stuff is gone.

Slapped the new apron on. Gave it a quick coat of wax. Looks the part even if the colors are different.

First coat of primer is on. This is my first time working with an MDF cabinet. There is a bit of a learning curve trying to get it smooth.

I think I’ve kicked the rust bug on this pin. A couple before and after shots. You can see where the plating was flaking off the guides, and also shows how much more shine the playfield has.

Finally getting back to painting. I’ve been side tracked with other painting and pinball projects, namely picking up a lightly routed GOTG at a sweet price and getting it back in working shape, making some new Halloween decorations, and finishing up my arduino driven Meteor playfield wall art.

Sprayed the first coat of black on Spring Break. Pulled out the old HVLP sprayer that I haven’t used in forever. Went on a little too thick, but that is OK for a first coat. I can level it out with some 400 grit wet sand paper once it dries and it’ll be good for the next coat. 29B88514-2527-453E-9421-007B7E8B5EBE (resized).jpeg29B88514-2527-453E-9421-007B7E8B5EBE (resized).jpeg

I also got word this week that Jeff PinballPimp Miller finished cleaning up the art work and is ready to make stencils.E2D3C070-8A45-4034-9CBD-893C081F98EC (resized).jpegE2D3C070-8A45-4034-9CBD-893C081F98EC (resized).jpeg

Btw this is my playfield wall art project that was one of my other distractions. It’ll be cool when it’s done.

Wet sanded and applied 2nd coat.

Since this is a full respray, I decided to add a little extra color. I think it goes well with the plastics.

Wet sanded and last coat of black is on. Now it just needs the 2 colors and it’s ready to put back together.

Any new progress?

Just waiting on either stencils or making decals and then it’s ready to put back together. Shouldn’t be much longer.

Yeah buddy!

Just got in my custom stencils care of Jeff PinballPimp Miller. I should be able to get the 2 colors on and get this back together by the weekend.

Looking good. I should bug Jeff about Hollywood Heat stencils. Fun fact, I actually got my HH from Jeff years ago, I think he got it in a package deal or something.

He always remembers me as the Wacko guy. I forget who was delivering games to us but he got a pin and my Wacko got dropped of too. He is a great guy with some great games and super talented.

Very cool. Yeah, Jeff is a hoot.

If you can scan your cabinet he can probably make stencils. He has the shape down since he did Spring break. It would be cool to see some more 80Bs getting some love and being brought back into good condition.

Stenciling has begun. These are a real b*tch to peel.

I'm going to need to do a lot of little touch ups, but nothing too bad. I had to use a dental pick to be able to peel all those little jagged sections and the insides of the lettering and that left some scratches. There were also a few spots where I got yellow paint on my glove and transferred it to a black section.

Love everything here. I know i am in the minority, but I think this game is underrated for the shots available. Cheesy AF

That's what called to me about this. It screams 80's, and has some fun different shots from my current lineup games. I like the little mini upper playfield. Even though it is street level, it adds a fun element. That, and I also love working on pins. I've been dragging my feet on this one a little. I honestly could have had it done a month ago if I had stayed more on top of the project and getting materials lined up.

#125 2 years ago

Red is on. Much easier stencil to work. Now I just have to lock it down with a coat of semigloss clear and it is ready to start putting it back together.

What are you using for clear?

#127 2 years ago
Quoted from Silverstreak02:

Rustoleum semi-gloss. Same as the rest of the paint on the cab.

I know guys out there that will 2PAC their cabinet, but it's kinda overkill in my opinion. To each their own.

It’s alive! After some initial troubleshooting to get it up and flipping, including redoing the ground mod on the playfield that I never got around to. There are some switches that need to be adjusted and some odd sound issues.

03FF7302-7081-4C3B-887E-730F2ADB49D2 (resized).jpeg03FF7302-7081-4C3B-887E-730F2ADB49D2 (resized).jpegF21C285D-7198-454A-A76F-BE24213B7F81 (resized).jpegF21C285D-7198-454A-A76F-BE24213B7F81 (resized).jpeg
#136 2 years ago

Some minor troubleshooting complete, some remains.
- The 10,000 point light wasn't coming on, so I swapped out Q25 on the driver board and solved that issue.
- Free Play Prom didn't work. Couldn't coin up or get into the test menu. Swapped back to the original rom and this works.
- When I started a game, the initial drum roll would just continue, and would only launch a single ball (even dip switch set to 4 ball first ball). Found that the first roll under gate switch was mis adjusted. Issue is fixed
- When starting up a game, you can hear the splash sound as it is ejecting the ball into the shooter lane. There seems to be an odd switch issue even though the switch test works for all playfield switches. Maybe a diode board issue?

#137 2 years ago

Looks sharp!

#138 2 years ago

Mark it done. I checked the gaps on my EOS switches for the flipper and made sure they were at 1/8” at full extension. No more air balls (or at least far fewer).

I’ll upload a game play video In the next few days.
