Quoted from Deez:I have a little bit of insight on this and it's kind of already been stated. I stopped going to league because it became so boring due to ultra competitive play. The league went from a bunch of guys drinking beer and shooting the shit to a few hardcore players wearing their headphones shooting the same shot over and over. I get it that different people like different things but I find that style of playing to be so boring. Not that I can't play like that and rack up huge scores, I just don't really care about winning at pinball. It just ended up not being fun anymore. They try to do social events but they're always around some BS IFPA points or knock outs. Just not my thing. Just keep in mind there are probably a lot of other players with similar feelings.
I tend to avoid places when tournaments are going on was well as I've heard the same things. I'm not sure if this has been tried, but I'd sure like to see instructional classes for beginners and intermediate players to advance to the next level. This might include learning a few tricks like bounce passes, dead bounce, cradling the ball and skill shots for beginners. I realize I can sit on you tube and learn these things, but it's much more fun hands on especially if someone skilled is teaching. This would work well with a really good instructor/player, fairly small class size, games on free play and some one on one time so that the instructor can see how each individual could improve. Maybe throw in a lunch and charge a flat fee. I'd think the beginners would really love this as well the regular players like myself.
I think this same thing could be done on games to learn rules and go through modes and learn strategies to advance. Again I realize Bowen and others do this on YouTube, but I just think it's different to do it in person socializing with others. Be neat to have someone video and analize the game after being played as well. Maybe to off the wall, but had to throw it out there.
That would definitely get me out of the house and signed up.
