Posted this in the POTC club thread as well but thought wider exposure might help.

I simply can find no information on the wheel. I found the skull on EBay and would love to build this custom topper BUT I have exhaustively searched Google and Bing engines to no avail.

Do you recognize the ships wheel behind the skull?

Original post below:

Anyone recognize that ships wheel?
Toy?
Beer sign?
POTC item?
Etsy?
Liquor advert piece?
I see it's probably plastic - but not sure
I see acorns and oak leaves
I see a crown and swords
I see 8 spokes
I've searched for several hours (yes, I did) and came up empty and I consider myself top 1% in internet search skills - prove me to be terrible at it please!

Great thought. Will take a look. Tried Hobby Lobby already ...

Keep the guesses (or specifics!) coming guys!

Quoted from Wmsfan-GAP:

Go to eBay, type 'pirate ship wheel' and you will have over 2000 hits before you refine your search

Tried it and worked that list for 3 hours ... bummer (but that's how I found the skull)

Quoted from ForceFlow:

It might not necessarily be a *pirate* ship wheel, and maybe just a ship's wheel.
Try also looking for wall clocks. I've sometimes seen them with a clock in the center.

Good call. Did that too a few nights ago. I really think that is what I'm probably going to find, its "part" of something else ...

Quoted from Wmsfan-GAP:

Well if you find out, post it here, as the pic you posted is a very cool topper.

OK. Wmsfan-GAP and ForceFlow ... you inspired me to take another shot.

Went back to Ebay, searched hundreds of "ships wheel clocks". Nothing
Thought about what forceflow said and tried "ships wheel thermometers". Nothing
About to give up but tried "ships wheel barometer", couple dozen hits later and BOOM!

There is/was exactly ONE identical item on Ebay, in the UK.
No wonder there were no Google images of it!
Note in the link below it shows the maker as Rototherm

Here's some close ups of one sold from South Africa
https://m.bidorbuy.co.za/item/188787814/British_Rototherm_ships_wheel_compensated_barometer_chipped_as_per_photo.html

Sure wish this was a more available item.
When I get it I'll take some measurements so you all can source a modern/similar version

Thanks for the hints guys!

Image below is the one I bought

Quoted from toasterman04:

now for the skull!!

Forgot to post that I also found the skull. Actually found that first.
Ebay and ... there was only one.

However, it appears they made at least 2 versions of this
Mine and the original posters that have bones crossed behind the skull and another version with swords crossed behind

Assuming both are the same scale, then either would work

I would bet the bones version still shows up from time to time

Was likely a Halloween type "scare you" toy to hang on wall or foyer

Ship wheel/barometer arrived from the UK. Looks like it was put through a meat grinder along the way but the wheel itself is in good shape
A few pics of both sides ... the barometer part pulled out easily

Tim,
Can't wait to play your Pirates. Get that game room up and running, my friend!

Hey neighbor! Missing you my friend. We are close on the house. Games should all be set up in next 8 weeks or so!

Quoted from Strohz:

Did you ever make your topper out of the parts? Curious to see how it turned out if you have some pics!

Not yet. I’ll post pics for sure when done. Absolutely will get it built but recently just getting settled in to the new gameroom I built.

OK. I finally carved out 2 1/2 hours to knock this out.
I'll post details later but I'm very pleased with the results
I gutted the interior and replaced the single LED factory lights with Comet 8 SMDs
Also added 2 more of the 8 SMDs in wedge mounts low and toward the outside.
Eyes are red and outside wedges are orange
Tied to pop bumper flasher for now
