Quoted from Eskaybee:

I think Groot + Rocket would be a fantastic narrative for Pinball:
Groot: ‘I am Groot!’
Rocket: ‘yea, I’m pretty sure he knows to shoot the balls in your mouth’
Groot: ‘we are groot’
Rocket: ‘multiball is ready, you don’t say?’
Groot: ‘I AM GROOT!’
Rocket: ‘I agree, now that is a jackpot!’

that would be the way to go, let's hope they don't fuck this one up.

Maybe its just me, but while I like the topper, It seems Ill have enough of the images on the backglass, playfield and video screen
on this title.

Kinda reminds me of Toaster Covers and Oven burner covers....just more on top.

Happy if its an addition you might want as well.

yeah, and let's had the word guardians a few times since it's already on the backglass, side, backbox, front, that'd be different.

I think it looks good because it's only a silhouette of the characters. Doesn't look too repetitive IMO.

Quoted from Snailman:

DI is linear in nature? I beg to differ.
Scoring? Geometric (see SIM Card multipliers). Definitely not linear.
Modes? Ability to choose from a handful of modes based upon your current situation / stack potential, or if you have Big Bang lit.
Wizard modes? Actually programmed in, with scoring that is appropriate for a wizard mode, and based upon how you played on your journey to the wizard mode, so timing out modes isn't wise.
I will agree that DI commands a hefty price tag -- it's the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on one.

The scoring isn't linear by any means. And it's not a ladder climbing fest of modes, but the game is centered around the disasters. And now after 5 disasters you're stuck playing a multiball that halts progression and isn't (to my knowledge) based on how you've progressed prior to reaching the multiball. It just seems like an odd spot to add the mini wizard mode when disaster modes already had a mini wizard mode. So yea, mode and wizard progression is linear. The fact you can choose the disasters is the only thing helping the linear nature of the ladder.

But don't get me wrong, I love dialed in! And it's still on the radar, it's just been knocked down a couple steps cause of those things. But I admit I have not played the new code or understand it which is why I posed the question in the DI thread. Hopefully I get some time in on it again. Back to guardians....

So, you post a bunch of definitive statements about how the game plays and question the design decisions, then you say:

Quoted from Eskaybee:

But I admit I have not played the new code or understand it

Which completely obliterates your opinion that you just stated like it was a fact.

Play a few games and get back to us.

Photo of Roger and Zach playing just for fun. My brother Dennis is in the red shirt playing Guardians Pro.

Bleh. I hate being put in the category of opinions are fact so let’s nip that nonsense right in the bud now. Posting on my phone but hopefully this makes sense.

All I said was the linear nature of the rules is why it’s been turning me off. Not trying to play it as fact, it’s just my perception of the game and how the modes flow from what I have played of it. My GC on the game is 13 mil at ayce gogi fwiw.

I haven’t played the new wizard mode but I have plenty of time on the game prior to that one wizard mode being added. My statement on the linear nature ruleset still stands as those rules are still the same, what I meant about reserving final judgement is whether or not that new wizard mode is integrated on how you do prior to qualifying it.

And why it turned me off is I was hoping the devs would build around the disasters like WOZ rather than add on to it.

If you want to know more please join my discussion in the DI owners thread. Sorry for the interruption, back to guardians...

Pinside IAAPA reporters lol.
You & Stern confirmed an "Interactive" topper, I am guessing its similar to Batman 66 = illuminates, except that GOTG = interactive. Any details on how the lights may function with the 2 layers, RGB, flashers, etc?
any and all info is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Guessing the corresponding character lights up

Funny misspelling

#261 6 years ago

If Groot will be talking, will his jaw move like Rudy on Funhouse?

I don't understand why the backpanel says We Are Groot as that is only used at the end of the movie. It make much more sense if the panel would say I Am Groot (if it would have any wording) and have a mech to change the wording into We Are Groot after completing the wizard mode.
Actually, the wooden board with the cassette player, as pictured in another topic, would have been my pick for the backpanel - but that's just me.

#262 6 years ago

Given that there's a lock in Groot's mouth, I don't think his mouth will move while he speaks.

#263 6 years ago
Quoted from bigd1979:

And? ..... look how much more there is to potc on the playfield and code wise when done.....not even in the same boat. Not that means anything but sterm can pump out cookie cutterisk pins with standard code much easier than a newer/smaller company with much more complicated pins. I love all pinball but theres not much variation between stern pins anymore and once u own a few they all kinda feel the same over the past 3-4 years.

I've played both dood.

the point I was making for those who are considering either that there will be more choice not which is better.

Having played GOTG in my view it plays nothing like MET. I also don't agree that all Stern's shoot the same. There are similarities but I could argue that with nearly every pinball machine made. MET, TWD, GB, B66, SW shoot nothing like each other. Kiss and Aerosmith are often compared but when you play them they are completely different games. I know this is pinside but worth waiting until you play the game!

in my view GOTG and POTC are going to be great and very different games, which ever one you choose you will have a great game.

Cheers,
Neil.

I was really disappointed when I read no dialogue/callouts from the films and Stern are using sound a likes but if they go the route laid out above by Eskaybee I think it could be a lot better than audio from the film, BUT the rocket sound a like needs to be awesome!

That can't be right. It will probably have a mix of audio from the movies & sound alikes for custom pinball-related dialog...pretty much like every movie based pin Stern has done.

GB: movie clips + Ernie Hudson
SM: movie clips + J.K. Simmons
Avatar: movie clips + Stephen Lang
Iron Man: movie clips + sound-alike Jarvis & random military guy
BDK: movie clips + crappy "sound-alike" Batman, Joker, Scarecrow, etc.
ST: movie clips + sound-alike Klingon, Admiral Ritchie & Karl Urban
Tron: movie clips + David Theil's wife as the computer voice

The only movie Sterns I can think of that didn't have dialog clips from the movies were Pirates, but the game rules really didn't follow any movie narrative, so it worked fine with sound-alike Depp and the other pirates....and Avengers, which I think was an aesthetic choice after the complains about Transformers' shitty sound-alike not matching the movie clips...so they just went full on custom voices instead of movie clips.

Since GOTG is already showing they have rights to the movie footage, I can't imagine they wouldn't be able to use the corresponding audio to go with it.

#269 6 years ago

I am just here hoping for video of pitch and bat games.

#270 6 years ago
Quoted from Hazoff:

Pretty sure I read a page or two back i this thread (or maybe the GOTG here thread as I was catching up on both) that there is no voice clips/callouts from the actors, happy to be proven wrong, in fact really happy if I read it wrong, either way Eskaybee idea would be fantastic!

#271 6 years ago

I think its custom call outs from the actors.

Probably using the wrong tech-speak, but has anyone cracked Spike 2 yet for Pinball Browser? If this title lacks original call outs it will be begging for it, just like TWD.

No, it's custom call outs from soundalikes...

I thought it already worked with Spike 2. There are posts and a YouTube video of a Stern Star Wars modded with all of the original soundtrack.

I know I was responding thats whats left out is custom call outs from the actors, he was saying no dialog from the films at all.

Yeah haz can you find the post that clarifies this dude? I’d love to know for certain if there is dialog from the film plus custom call outs or if it’s all custom audio? I read what I thought I read at like 3:30am here and now can’t find that post so may have my wires crossed.

Either way I want this scene in one way or another

Filming without a press pass is technically not allowed at IAAPA unless you're under special circumstances (guest of a exhibitor or the show). It just happens that it's not always strictly enforced. There have been a few videos of GOTG, but not a flood of them.

I've always taken video of everything at IAAPA. Never had a problem. They just don't want people to see the Alpha software.

Here is a video I made in 2012 using an actual video camera instead of a phone. Great show by the way.

#282 6 years ago

So you need a hidden camera for pinball expos nowadays?

#283 6 years ago

JJPOTC Has had some issues during the show. Not working properly. This is to be expected on a very early stage game. Let's not light the torches yet. Game still looks good and it will not ship for another 4 months so there is plenty of time to design deep code and work out the kinks. Very excited about this great new addition in the JJP family. When you are in Orlando you see alot of these signs.

WOZ had alpha software in 2012 - you can see it in the video above the inserts were in attract mode during gameplay. Was not a big deal at all because every knew they would be working on it.

Right. They don't enforce it very much, but by their written rules, you're not supposed to. It just gives exhibitors an easy out to ask people to not film if they don't want their early build products shown to the wider public.

#286 6 years ago

The games from IAAPA are being set up at Free Play Florida. Videos will certainly be taken here.

No. Not wishing to get into a dimple debate. Just pointing out like Dialed In test games last year. Not production playfields.

Not wanting to debate it either but that playfield is the same exact playfield that will be on production games and all playfields dimple.

It's not the same. JJP doesn't put final playfields in their test games. Lloyd is a tech. He would know much better than you, by the way.

So the playfield that they are going to sell the customers is untested? Please tell me what the difference is oh smart one? Are you going to really try and tell me that the playfields that the customers will be getting won’t dimple? I guess you think that JJP puts low quality playfields in their games and takes them to all of the shows for customers to see all beat up and trashed right? Give me a F break Jarhead!

No, you could photo and video,
It was too hard to video tape
also, features of the game broke by the time I went to video tape...
