Always wait and play first. Always. Only way to make an informed purchase.

No color changing LED’s on Pro model pop caps.
Thanks.
Stern should fire whomever is making their pamphlets.

That's fair, but I guess I was just asking about the code altogether, not necessarily for my own buying purposes.

Quoted from TKDalumni:Any noticeable ghosting or cabinet splitting? *Asking for a friend*
nope solid!
Quoted from Who-Dey:Seems like Guardians is getting alot of love. Just curious, for those that are at the show and have played both GOTG and POTC, which game do you like the most?
I'd say its hard to compare, POTC code is very very early. Both have limited call outs and music. POTC feels like some of the features aren't full baked yet.
Both are going to be great machines IMO.
Neil.

Cool - good to hear Hooked on a Feeling added to the Game. If Fox on the Run makes it in also I'd be a happy camper.

Right now the winner is Guardians for us.
But the code on Pirates is way way early right now.
Even though Guardians is early as well it is more fun at the moment.
Quoted from waspinat0r:That's fair, but I guess I was just asking about the code altogether, not necessarily for my own buying purposes.
From what I see in these videos, it’s definitely a wait and see what happens. I hear 0 call outs. Sound seems weak. RGB integration looks weak. Missing display clips. Choreography is off. Overall this thing looks very very beta. That said, I have this funny feeling this game is going to rock, but I’d definitely give it a few months to cook in the oven and see how it matures.
Quoted from NeilMcRae:GOTG I think will have more of a flow to it than POTC
Oh No! Youve said the magic word!
Time for the regular "Flow" Debate!
(I hope not)
Pirates and Guardians are going to be very, very different games. People are naturally going to gravitate to one or the other, and in the end, it's going to be what type of game you prefer (fast combos vs. more targeted shooting).
Pirates has everything I want right now. It has tons of unique shots, new ideas, and new takes on existing ideas. It just looks so fresh. But that price...dang.

Nice video.
Seems like both ramps have a high chance of rejects.

That's surprising and not the answer that I was expecting. Do we need to start a new thread called "A dark night for JJP"?

Another problem with buying an unfinished game is that the initial poor code state may ruin your ownership experience which no code updates will remedy.

I'd love to see a JPOTC video of this same angle. Thanks for posting. We trust you're not bogarting the machine with these 30 min videos?

But JJP never has poor code?

That’s what I’ve always been told. Now I am really confused.

Have they ever shipped a game with poor code?

Thanks for the video and the game really does look good. But, what the hell happened that Stern can't make a GI lamp socket work anymore?? The random flickering general illumination bulbs on their new games blows (note the right inlane on this game).
Quoted from unigroove:Besides Stern, JJP and CGC, Valley-Dynamo is also present at IAAPA presenting 4 pitch and bat games in their booth (designed by the team of Dennis Nordman): 2 x All-Star Baseball and 2 x Zombie League All-Stars. Fun games!
I've yet to check it out yet,
I should do a video of it.

Probably cheaped out and used wedge sockets again.....

Plays so much like met pro imo.... except the ramps have lots of rejections unlike met. I think the premium will be the way to go ...at least for me bc i own met pro. I hope the code ends up really good on the premium with the 3 color gi and rgb inserts...that will really set it apart from the pro and met....
Quoted from bigd1979:except the ramps have lots of rejections unlike met.
Yeah, I'd like to hear more about the ramp rejects from some of the people who played the game. Many shots which looked good from the viewing angle of the video still came back. It didn't look like it, but I wonder if the flipper strength was dialed back a bit on the floor games.

Which also begs the question, can the ramps be backhanded? I assume the orbits can be, but it won't be as fun without spinners on the pro.
Rob
I didn’t think the ramps rejected bad at all. Both fed to a flipper most of the time. The post rejects are another thing lol.
I also agree with my brother “Arcade”. I was not nearly as impressed with JPOTC as I was hoping to be. Right now if I had the extra cash to get a JJP game I would get Dialed In. Maybe that will change after the code gets better.
Quoted from NeilMcRae:GOTG I think will have more of a flow to it than POTC
From the vids (thanks) seems to flow just like IM or MET.
Guardians as theme rocks, just wondering if it will differentiate itself enough.
Too early, but damn cherry bomb song is already stuck in my head!

Played both today- GOTG was way better & truly is a great looking game - obviously need more time to make a determination on the full game play once all rules implemented.
JJP POTC was still their prototype, but in my OWN HUMBLE OPINION was not as impressive as much as the hype that seemed to surround it on the reveal. Maybe that will get better upon production? Bit of a downer as I was looking forward to it!
Dialed in still looked and played great - it's a personal favorite of mine I hope to own one day.

Hard to beat the gameplay and fun factor of di... that's for sure. Crazy how many love the game now . I have a deposit on potcle but still not sure about the crazy rules and upper playfield.
Let’s not not forget these games are going to ship pretty much 6 months apart, by which Stern will probably have had another game out.

And? ..... look how much more there is to potc on the playfield and code wise when done.....not even in the same boat. Not that means anything but sterm can pump out cookie cutterisk pins with standard code much easier than a newer/smaller company with much more complicated pins. I love all pinball but theres not much variation between stern pins anymore and once u own a few they all kinda feel the same over the past 3-4 years.

I wish JJP would stick to narrow body - it is hardly a shock their only narrow body seems to be their best pin.
As for GOTG , agree code is so early so it will be a long wait to see how this game pans out, although the code is very similar to AS.
I wonder now if Stern are only going to use Lyman on their SLE games? Kind of a USP to collectors? So, Elvira 3 more than likely will be the SLE game as seems Lyman has been working on the code.

Agreed. That was my impression of these videos on GOTG. Looks good, but shoots just like every other stern I've owned - how long will that last in a small collection? My personal dilemma is im working in a $10k budget for pinball next year and with the limited space I have, JPOTC is at the top of the list. I had DI on the list but don't like the linear nature that the rules are moving toward since this past update. But, if I stretch that budget by $1k more, I can get 2 stern pros like GOTG + SW. Hard to beat that - even though owning a stern right now isn't as appealing for reasons said; cookie cutter all too familiar tables.
People say it's a good time to be in the hobby now, but with all these NIB titles to choose from with NIB prices at an all time high, it actually kinda sucks in a weird way. I thought when supply outweighed demand, prices were supposed to stabailize and/or fall, not continue to get higher each release lol. $9500 JPOTC is a tough pill to swallow. But, I do trust in Keefer to bring a better, more last ability ruleset to the table than Lonnie/Stern.
I'm overstimulated with all the options honestly LOL. I just wished I lived 2 hours closer to Ayce Gogi, then I wouldn't have too worry about buying pinball's or even budgeting for one. Jealous for people who live close to high quality pinball locations, no need to own these high dollar machines if so to be honest.

An X factor is all Stern games at this show have all back leg levelers very low and close to the leg bottoms.
