I would say these days that some other "second business" DOES need to compliment an "arcade". A bar, amusement park, restaurant, hotel, game store, vintage toy store, ect.
There are certainly exceptions. Like if the town in which you live is a resort destination. Orlando, Las Vegas, Dollywood, even Asheville, NC.
Beyond that, it is extremely hard to open a business and JUST have pinball or arcades, 7 days a week, long term. Unless you just want to break even. I have seen so many locals try it and just end up deciding that it isn't worth it after one month, or at most, a couple years. There are exceptions but the average Joe will need some other reason for people to show up. Pinball/arcades are still a very niche market for certain and most are not willing to take a risk of fitting in to the exceptional group. Most of those turning a profit have been "arcade only" businesses for decades, or are actually non-profits on purpose.
