I was playing Scooby Doo on location and had just noticed the cool way the ball dumps out through the secret passage near the flippers.

All of a sudden the left flipper button felt strange, my left flipper finger was now inside the machine! The button fell out. A nice lady pointed out that it fell into the cup holder. I was able to throw it back in and play through.

This was a new one for me, has this ever happened to anyone else on such a new machine?

Quoted from mc300baud:

it occurs often on newer Sterns, and did recently on my CCr. all the instances it's happened to me has been while the games were on location.
the cheap buttons being produced today have a very tiny raised ridge in the plastic of the bottom center piece which holds them together once the two pieces have been joined with a small amount of pressure. it doesn't take a lot of play for this to wear to the point where the center simply pops out. as an op i usually reinforce the buttons with an e-clip just above the ridge; that seems to last a lot longer than the ridge on it's own. i have to say so far this hasn't happened to me on buttons i've purchased from Pinball Life, nor on my Houdini, both of which may be of better quality. or i've just gotten lucky.

Instead of the button falling in or coming out, the whole button and outside trim fell out.
