I posted this yesterday on the "What I want to see on pinside next" topic. I realized that wasn't the place I should have posted it. I just don't think it's going to get read there.

What I would like to see next on pinside.com? Next I would like to see it revert from RGPside.com back to pinside.com. There I said it. I found both forums the same day, signed up to both of them the same day and quickly realized this is where I prefer to be. The Ora or vibe if you will is much more to my liking here. I feel a shift and it's not for the better. I'm not referring to the flaming threads, that's going to happen. There's always a wizman in the bunch. After all we are on the Internet. It goes much deeper than flaming threads. It's hard to explain but I'd imagine there's many of you who have made this you home that know what I'm talking about. Everything from random boob pics to someone with a 30 pin collection being called out, implying he needs to post pics or he's full of bs. I LOVE BOOBIES. I bought my wife a very nice pair But I don't want pins on my porn sites and I don't want porn on my pin site(well just a tiny bit but with NSFW). I saw RPG as a fast paced, cut throat, big city feeling fourm(like New York) and Pinside like a small town friendly, everyone knows your name kinda fourm. Full of comradery(sp) and good karma. Now we're trying to figure out a system to pass out bad karma. Joking or not it crossed our minds for a reason. I'm not sure everyone, or anyone , agrees with me but it's been on my mind. Not sure anything can be done about it. It's not a breaking of the rules it's a breaking of tradition. Other than not feeding into it and not contributing to it I don't think anything can be done about it. Dosent mean I have to like it though. Just had to vent. Thanks.

As a Vendor there is a reason I have decided to join Pinside Vs. RGP.. I was told you guys were a much better group kinda the creme of the player community. I have seen and met some great people on here but I have also taken my share of flaming. Can't we all just get along?

If I squint that looks like a boob. Where's that pesky NSFW stamp when you need it..

    #7 12 years ago

Fully agree with the OP (probably should clarify that I was a lurker for a longggggggg time )

    #8 12 years ago

I just got here, Is it me? Its a good place, found lots of good info and a PF.

    #10 12 years ago

Pinside has definitely slid towards to gutter in the last few weeks. Many of us seem to be approaching a decision point about it. I am.

    #11 12 years ago

I just got here. This is the best pinhead spot out there. Purchased a pin from a pinsider already. Plus got advice on how to fix my first pin problem. This is your (our) house. You don't sh@t in your own house, even my dog knows that. RGP is great place to flame or troll, even some good stuff out there, I hit it daily. Pinside is different. That's what makes it cool. A certain level of respect, friends among hobbyists. No trollers.

    #12 12 years ago

mot much ya can really do about it except have a good attitude and ignore the negative post

    +1 to OP.

Who should we nominate to push the official Pinside 2012 reset button?

One thing that Robin could do is keep the "Pinball Bar" forum off of the main forum page. Those topics tend to be pretty active and can dominate the main forum page. Labeling something NSFW is a courtesy that is appreciated, not that I wouldn't open it at work but I work in IT in a server room where no one sees what I do.

I hear you, and obviously I love Pinside as much as anyone, but I don't really understand this "us vs. them" mentality. In my eyes, threads like this just stir the pot and cause more potential harm than good. There are a lot of great people on RGP, and many of them have recently started participating on Pinside. This is undeniably a good thing. Sure, there may be a few more douchebags posting lately, but I think it's just a natural byproduct of Pinside's recent growth.

Don't feed the idiots with posts... which is hard to do.

+1 I don't think we can blame anyone at this point.... community can drive this site to what we want it to be with help of moderators of course.

I also thought of some sort of tagging ability or another type of self moderation feature...

This is something that I brought up a long time ago, and I think it would be even more helpful now. If people want to discuss hunting or boobies or whatever else flips their pickle, that's fine. The problem is that these threads end up significantly lowering the signal to noise ratio on the forum. Now that the site is more active, posts on the main page get bumped down so quickly. The last thing we need is all these non-pinball related threads making the situation worse.

    #22 12 years ago

As an RGPer I find the OPs point interesting. I actually think that RGP now seems mellow to what goes on here. There is a veil of nicety here that seems to be more tolerable of stuff that people would get run off of RGP for posting.

RGPs strong self moderation has made it the forum of choice for me. The good are good and the bad are called out. Here it seems like people put icing on crap sometimes just to keep civil.

I've seen stuff written here that would NEVER fly on RGP and they are by members apparently embraced by the Pinside community.

I do like the look and concept of what Robin, and whomever else, have created but it is organic and at ths point I think it would be hard to revert to what was intended. The Internet is a weed.

    Back to my hobby, pinball.

    #23 12 years ago

There are good and bad people on all the forums. You can't control the Internet. So suck it up and quit acting like the world is butterflies and roses.

    #24 12 years ago

I like Pinside. It was my first choice when I got into this hobby, and is the only pinball site I'm a member of.

There has been a lot of personality conflicts going on lately on here. Some of the responses to the original posters topic, has nothing to do with the topic, just a slam on the individual, or business.

There seems to be a small group on here who have elected themselves Sheriffs' of Pinside. They are calling out businesses for posting, or correcting grammer of people.

Robin is the owner of the site, and should decide whether businesses can advertise or not.

As far as calling people out, I could care less on what they post, as long as it's not offensive. If their prices are crazy, who cares, don't buy. Make a simple comment that the price seems high, don't flame them out, using the excuse that you don't want to see newbies ripped off. If they want to get a good deal, they will research it, just like the rest of us do. I'm not a cop, or want to be.

If I don't like someone's post, I don't read it. If I read it, and don't like it, I don't comment on it. I try and act like an adult.

I love Pinside, as they have helped me fix many problems, taught me many things, and I'll continue to learn, as willing as the people on this site don't flame me for asking stupid questions. We all ask them, it's human nature.

I'm done with my ranting, just relax and play some pinball. I'm going back to getting my butt handed to me by WWF, and it's gremlins. Hope to get this machine up and running, as it's in the best condition of any pin I've ever owned, or played. It's as close to NIB as I'll get in a long time.

Just contribute to the good threads, ignore the bad ones. Easy. Welcome to the internet

Good point pzy,for some reason it is so tempting to get involved in threads you know you should stay out of,it's hard to say why though.

Well let me say some words. Being a contributor to the boobs thread and if you are at work and open it shame on you! The title clearly states boobs right in it. It isnt like a surprise once you open it. You already know whats in there. HAVING said that i do agree the NSFW probably should have been put on there. But this is not a PINocracy and in the mods who was watching that thread to see if it went past pg13 or the site owner did not like what they saw they would have shut it down right there. I have no basis to compare rpg to this site nore will i. This is the first site i joined and felt right at home here. Will i join rpg? Probably not i have no reason.
I really feel i should not be stiring the pot so to speak with responding to this thread. But there is a recent activity button on the threads that you the user have responded to. It tracks what has been said in a thread that the user responded to. Ive noticed the first page contains usually the last 24 hours when i click the forum button on the top of the page. So i cant see it being a problem unless there is something im looking for past 24hours. Then on to page 2 i must click.

Quoted from txstargazer3:Pinside has definitely slid towards to gutter in the last few weeks. Many of us seem to be approaching a decision point about it. I am.

Im sorry you are having troubles with the site. Wish there was something i could do to help. Is there something in particular thats bothering you or someone?

    Quoted from ThePostmaster:

There seems to be a small group on here who have elected themselves Sheriffs' of Pinside.

Im kinda getting a strange vibe on this one. I have not seen Sheriffing firsthand but i still wonder what happened to brokedad and i dont see pinmike on the forms much anymore. Im sure there was a reason for the conflict and im sure the users had a good reason for going their separate ways. But they made a rational decision. Kinda like the boob thread. Ie im at work and it says boobs in the title so,should i open it and risk being caught by it and losing my job? We all know the answer to that one. Without steeping on any toes and i hate to say it but the OP is slightly giving me the strange vibe for posting this in another forum so i can been seen more because it wasnt getting the attention he felt it deserved.... Sorry not to offend you OP we have never crossed paths and i dont intend to.

    Quoted from ThePostmaster:

I must agree with you hole heartily on this one. This is the place to be. When i came to the site i knew absolutely nothing about repairing pins. I still dont, but i have a good understanding of how stuff works and have the willingness to learn. The advise i can offer is only applicable to system 80's ans system 1's. Most of the time im surfing the forms trying to offer any insite i can on any other machine.
As far as the Karma thing, well if you anyone is really about positive and negative karma really think about this, You can go into a topic and post ! and get karma points. Or post something as long as this and get the same karma points. Some people i guess are obsessed with the karma like its the cookie you cant eat. I could see negitive karma being used if a bad deal goes down like a crappy pin that was stated good and showed pics of a great pin paid for it shipped it and arrived nowhere near what the pics represented or it never arrived. I think that would be grounds for a ban not negative karma. Again who would be the issuer of this negative karma? Would it be the sheriff?\
Sorry my one and probably only rant has been issued on here. Sorry to offend anyone. Again its my opinion take it as that.

Would it help or would it hurt If I closed or deleted the Whoa Nelly topic/thread?
    A vote ?

I don't think it needs to be deleted but closed wouldn't hurt my feelings.

    Quoted from HELLODEADCITY:

Would it help or would it hurt If I closed or deleted the Whoa Nelly topic/thread?

It's not any one particular thread, it's the general direction that's the problem here. The signal to noise ratio is declining rapidly.

    #38 12 years ago

The Boobs thread is lame as hell, and what's with all these threads that are like "Look at this funny gif picture that was popular in 2003"

You can see that stuff on a *billion* other forums. It just brings the class of this place down..

As with Pinside, there's the good, the bad, the really good, and the really bad. It's largely self-regulating. Jerks are either ignored or called-out. Spirited debates run on and on. The self-righteous complain, but life goes on, people come and go.

I was on RGP before Pinside. Both have there pros and cons.

    #40 12 years ago

I have never been on another forum (as a member) but, I have lurked and is why I joined here. I saw in this site a willingness to help people like me who know little about pins without making me look stupid. I'm not saying RGP is not newbe friendly, or in any way a bad site with bad people, people are people, and we all tend to change somewhat under certain circumstances. I guess for me I just hope that members here continue to offer help to one another and be understanding of those like myself when (and I will) I ask what my seem the obvious to the more seasoned repair pinhead.

    #41 12 years ago

I want to start by saying this: Pinside is not RGP and RGP is not Pinside.

Okay, with that out of the way, check out this idea I just posted:

    http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinside-moderation-for-the-masses

    #42 12 years ago
    Quoted from Shane300zx:

Is there something in particular thats bothering you or someone?

Yes, it is when these photos and drawings pop up in innocent threads without warning. Want a boob thread? Fine, as long as it is labeled as one - as we have recently seen. But when I go to Hobbit New Artwork I should expect pinball or Hobbit related art, not explicit cartoons from Fritz the Cat. Why should I have to clear the room to view a Hobbit thread? To the credit of the moderators, this was addressed and the cartoon is now gone.

Robin, you proposal is an excellent one! I believe that it will make this site even better.
